Bradley finishes high in Triathlon rankings after a rollercoaster 2019 season

Contributed Story Posted 23 February 2020 at 9:36 am

Contributed Photo – Scott Bradley competes in the Ironman 70.3 Indian Wells-LaQuinta.

Lyndonville native Scott Bradley closed out his rollercoaster 2019 professional Triathlon season by racing the Ironman 70.3 Indian Wells – La Quinta in December. It was the latest he has ever raced in a season.

A 70.3 triathlon is a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile (half marathon) run.

Bradley was 26th out of 32 Male Pros coming out of the water in a time of 29:49.

Riding the 8th fastest bike time of the day, he climbed to 16th among the Male Pros as he dismounted his bike, riding a 2:08:08 at an average speed of 26.47 mph.

However, Bradley’s roller coaster season was mirrored by this race.

After a good swim and an excellent bike, his run of 1:30:29 was his poorest run in over two years.  His final time of 4:13:09 placed him 23rd out of the 32 Male Pros and 37th out of 2309 participants in the race.

Despite the roller coaster season which included a Male Awards Podium at IM 70.3 Eagleman, a DNF (Did not finish) at IM Lake Placid, a DNS (Did not start) at IM 70.3 Augusta due to a sinus infection, his USA Triathlon rankings for 2019 were very good.

Using the Complete Rankings for 2019 since he races as a professional, in the 35-39 age group, he was ranked 75th out of 9,096 competitors from around the world who raced at least one race in the U.S.

He was ranked 40th in this age group among those just from the U.S.  Among those who, like Bradley, participated in three or more events, he was ranked 25th among competitors from around the world ages 35-39 and 23rd in the U.S.

Rankings are also shown for U.S athletes by the area of the country in which they reside, as well as by state.  Among all athletes (not just the 35-39 age group) residing in the Northeast U.S., he was ranked 20th, 11th among those participating in three or more races.  In New York State he was ranked 9th among all age groups, 3rd among those racing three or more events.

Having finalized his schedule for 2020, he plans to begin his season by racing Ironman 70.3 Texas in Galveston in April.  The remainder of his season will include Ironman 70.3 Chattanooga (TN) in May, the Norseman Extreme Triathlon in Norway in August, Ironman 70.3 Augusta (GA) in September and Ironman Arizona in November.

Bradley is the Assistant Principal at Byron-Bergen Junior-Senior High School.
