Medina has shutout in N-O field hockey finale

Avenging an earlier season 3-2 loss, Medina shutout Wilson 3-0 at Vets Park this afternoon to close out the Niagara-Orleans League field hockey season with a 6-6 record.
Medina grabbed a 1-0 first half lead on a goal by Tatianna Maxon.
The Mustangs then broke the game open with a pair of third period goals by Ava Blount and Penelope Schalck on a penalty shot.
Wilson finishes the N-O season at 4-8.
In the other games, Akron completed a 12-0 championship season with a 6-0 win over Kenmore and Barker edged Roy-Hart 2-1 in a shootout.
Jordyn Kinne snd Kaylee Stoll scored goals for Barker in the shootout.
Barker’s Sophia Gerhardt and Roy-Hart’s Adella Dukes scored in regulation time.
Akron, which has now won five straight N-O titles, is 59-1 in league play during that stretch.
Final N-O Standings: Akron 12-0, Barker 9-3, Roy-Hart 7-5, Medina 6-6, Wilson 4-8, Newfane 2-10, Kenmore 2-10.
Medina, Kendall, Holley and Roy-Hart will all be hosting soccer sectional quarterfinals
Medina, Kendall, Holley and Roy-Hart will be hosting sectional quarterfinal round soccer playoff games over the next three days.
This evening, No. 2 seed Medina (13-2-1) will host No. 7 Silver Creek/Forestville (6-9) in a Section VI Class B2 quarterfinal at 6:30 p.m. at Vets Park. The victor will face the winner of tonight’s No. 6 Newfane vs. No. 3 Cassadaga Valley/Falconer game in the semifinals on Monday at the highest seed.
On Friday, the No. 1 seed Kendall girls (16-1) will host No. 9 Oakfield-Alabama/Elba (9-7-1) in a Section V Class C1 quarterfinal at 6 p.m. Kendall edged OAE twice during the Genesee Region League season by the score of 3-2. The victor will face the winner of the No. 4 Warsaw vs. No. 5 Cal-Mum game in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Also on Friday, the No. 3 seed Roy-Hart girls will host Niagara-Orleans League foe No. 11 Newfane at 6:30 p.m. in a Section VI Class B quarterfinal.
On Saturday, the top seeded Kendall boys (14-1-1) will host No. 8 Gananda (5-12) in the Class C1 quarterfinals at 3 p.m. The victor will face the winner of the No. 4 Perry vs. No. 5 Campbell-Savona contest in the semifinals on Wednesday.
Also on Saturday, the No. 4 seed Holley boys (12-3-2) will host No. 5 Williamson (11-5-1) in a Class C quarterfinal at 6:30 p.m. The victor will face the winner of the No. 1 East Rochester vs. No. 8 Addison game in the semifinals on Wednesday.
Road trips for Holley girls, Albion and Lyndonville boys
The No. 5 seed defending champion Holley girls (12-4-1) will visit No. 4 Red Creek (13-4) in a Section V Class C1 quarterfinal at 6 p.m. Friday. The victor will face the winner of the No. 1 Williamson vs. No. 8 East Rochester game in the semifinals on Tuesday.
The No. 10 seed Lyndonville boys will visit No. 2 Naples in a Section V Class D quarterfinal at 6 p.m. Friday.
The No. 6 seed Albion boys will face No. 3 I-Prep in a Section VI Class A2 quarterfinal at 5 p.m. Friday at All High Stadium in Buffalo.

Lady Rams top Fredonia in Class B opener
A pair of first half goals proved to be more than enough as No. 3 seed Roy-Hart blanked visiting No. 14 Fredonia 2-0 this evening in the opening round of the Section VI Class B girls soccer playoffs.
Allie Trombley and Maria Trombley took turns scoring the first half goals for the Lady Rams which will next host Niagara-Orleans League foe Newfane in the quarterfinals on Friday.
No. 11 seed Newfane shutout No. 6 Olmsted 7-0 as Anna Chunco scored 3 goals and Sieanna Allen 2.
In another Class B opener, No. 5 Akron downed No. 12 Salamanca 7-0 as Abby Gerstung had 3 goals and 2 assists and Lorelei Priebe 2 goals.
N-O Field Hockey
Akron romps; Medina delayed
Undefeated (11-0) Akron, which has already locked up a fifth straight Niagara-Orleans League field hockey title, downed host Newfane 6-0 this afternoon as Morgan Tomporowski had 3 goals and Mackenzie Tomporowski, Averi Monkelbaan and Alexis Salmon 1 each.
The Wilson at Medina game was halted midway through the first quarter by lightning. The game will be resumed at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Vets Park.
Quick goal sparks Holley to first round C1 win

A lightning quick goal in the opening seconds ignited No. 4 seed Holley to a 4-0 victory over visiting No. 13 Bloomfield this evening in the opening round of the Section V Class C1 boys soccer playoffs.
Chris Mosier gave Holley the quick lead with a goal in the first 30 seconds. Cam Mosier followed up with a goal on a header 10 minutes later giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead at the half.
Holley put a lock on the win in the second half on goals by Chase Kempa and Josh Silpoch.
Kempa also had 2 assists on the evening as Cam Mosier and Blake Coleman each had 1.
Improving to 12-3-2, Holley will next host No. 5 Williamson in the Class C1 quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Hawks, Lady Rams host sectionals today
The Holley boys and Roy-Hart girls will both open sectional soccer playoff competition this evening with home games.
No. 4 seed Holley will host No. 13 Bloomfield in a Section V Class C1 game at 6 p.m. The winner will face No. 5 Williamson on Saturday.
Roy-Hart, which is seeded No. 3, will host No. 14 Fredonia in a Section VI Class B contest at 6:30 p.m. The victor will face the winner of the No. 6 Olmsted vs N. 11 Newfane game on Friday.
Seeded No. 2, the Medina boys will open Section VI Class B2 competition at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Vets Park as the Mustangs host No. 7 Silver Creek/Forestville in a quarterfinal contest.
On Friday, the No. 6 seed Albion boys will visit No. 3 I-Prep in a Section VI Class A2 quarterfinal at 5 p.m. at All High Stadium in Buffalo.
Purple Eagles to host rival Mustangs Friday
One of New York State’s oldest high school football rivalries will be renewed on Friday as Medina visits Albion at 7 p.m.
This will be the 126th renewal of the rivalry which began in 1898.
Albion holds a 69-51-5 lead in the series but the teams have split the last 10 meetings with Medina winning 38-8 last year.
The Mustangs bring a 6-1 record into the contest while the Purple Eagles are looking to snap a season long seven game losing streak.
In another interdivisional regular season finale, Roy-Hart/Barker will host Franklinville/Ellicottville at 7 p.m. Friday at Barker.
The Bulls have won two in a row after opening the season 0-5.
Two key games are on tap to determine whether the C North Division has a champion, co-champions or tri-champions.
Those contests will have Newfane hosting Maritime at 7:05 p.m. Thursday and Alden entertaining Cleveland Hill at 7 p.m. Friday.
Currently both at 5-1, Newfane and Alden are both seeking a victory to gain a share of the title with Medina which has finished divisional competition at 6-1 having locked up at least a share of a fifth straight championship.

Lady Hawks open C1 title defense with shutout

Fifth seeded Holley opened defense of its Section V Class C1 girls soccer title with a 5-0 victory over visiting No. 12 Sodus this evening.
The Lady Hawks grabbed a 2-0 first half lead on goals by Alivia Wolf and Zoey Wolf.
Holley then locked up the win on three second half goals by Alivia Wolf.
Hanna Ostrom had 3 assists and Carsyn Mogle and Alexia Renner 1 for the Lady Hawks as Jayda Shampine made 2 saves to earn the shutout in goal.
Improving to 12-4-1, Holley will next visit No. 4 Red Creek in the quarterfinals on Friday. Red Creek edged No. 13 Lyndonville/Barker 1-0.

Medina nips Barker in field hockey in OT
Avenging an earlier season 3-2 loss, Medina nipped host Barker 2-1 in overtime in a Niagara-Orleans League field hockey game this evening.
Emi Batista scored the game winner for Medina just 40 seconds into the 10 minute 7 on 7 overtime period.
The contest was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time as both teams scored in the second quarter. Penelope Schalck scored for Medina and Kaylee Stoll for Barker.
Medina is now 5-6 and Barker 8-3.
The Medina victory also locks up outright possession of a fifth straight N-O title for undefeated (10-0) Akron which now has a three game lead with just two games reamining. The Lady Tigers will close out the N-O season with games at Newfane on Wednesday and at home against Kenmore on Thursday.
In the other N-O game, Kenmore edged Roy-Hart 1-0.
N-O Standings: Akron 10-0, Barker 8-3, Roy-Hart 7-4, Medina 5-6, Wilson 4-7, Newfane 2-9, Kenmore 2-9.
Top seeded Lady Eagles romp in C2 opener

Exploding out to a 5-0 lead in the first 15 minutes, top seeded Kendall went on to romp past visiting No. 16 Perry 11-0 in the opening round of the Section V Class C2 girls soccer playoffs this evening.
Sophia Picardo and Ryleigh Denning each scored 3 goals and Stella Kwiatek 1 to get the Lady Eagles off to a flying start. Picardo also had 3 assists on the day.
Payton Vogt, Izzy D’Agostino, Jersey Drake, Alea Barrett, Ava LaMay and Leann Clay also each scored a goal for Kendall.
Improving to 16-1, Kendall will next host Genesee Region League foe Oakfield-Alabama/Elba in the quarterfinals on Friday. Seeded No. 9, Oakfield-Alabama/Elba downed No. 8 Bradford/Dundee 2-0.
Maryvale 2, Albion 1
No. 8 seed Maryvale nipped visiting No. 9 Albion 2-1 in overtime this evening in the opening round of the Section VI Class A girls soccer playoffs.

Tigers win a thriller in sectional opener
Lyndonville opened Section V Class D boys soccer playoff action in dramatic fashion this afternoon as the No. 10 seeded Tigers upended host No. 7 Houghton 1-0 in a penalty kick shootout.
The teams played to a 0-0 tie through 80 minutes of regulation time and a pair of 15 minute overtimes setting the stage for the deciding shootout.
The Tigers won the penalty kick battle 4-2 on goals by Jesus Rosario-Reyes, Juan Alberdi, Colton Smith and Austin Fonda.
Brody Hazel earned his sixth shutout of the season in goal for the Tigers whose defense was anchored by the foursome of Rosario-Reyes, Fonda, Michael Alexander and Chaise Amsdill.
Lyndonville will next visit No. 2 Naples in the quarterfinals on Friday. Naples opened with a 10-0 romp over No. 15 Friendship-Scio today.
Section VI Class B2 Playoffs
Silver Creek/Forestville 2, Roy-Hart 1
No. 7 seed Silver Creek/Forestville edged visiting No. 10 Roy-Hart 2-1 in the opening round of the Section VI Class B2 boys soccer playoffs this evening.
Silver Creek/Forestville will next visit No. 2 Medina in the quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Vets Park.
