Tigers win a thriller in sectional opener
Lyndonville opened Section V Class D boys soccer playoff action in dramatic fashion this afternoon as the No. 10 seeded Tigers upended host No. 7 Houghton 1-0 in a penalty kick shootout.
The teams played to a 0-0 tie through 80 minutes of regulation time and a pair of 15 minute overtimes setting the stage for the deciding shootout.
The Tigers won the penalty kick battle 4-2 on goals by Jesus Rosario-Reyes, Juan Alberdi, Colton Smith and Austin Fonda.
Brody Hazel earned his sixth shutout of the season in goal for the Tigers whose defense was anchored by the foursome of Rosario-Reyes, Fonda, Michael Alexander and Chaise Amsdill.
Lyndonville will next visit No. 2 Naples in the quarterfinals on Friday. Naples opened with a 10-0 romp over No. 15 Friendship-Scio today.
Section VI Class B2 Playoffs
Silver Creek/Forestville 2, Roy-Hart 1
No. 7 seed Silver Creek/Forestville edged visiting No. 10 Roy-Hart 2-1 in the opening round of the Section VI Class B2 boys soccer playoffs this evening.
Silver Creek/Forestville will next visit No. 2 Medina in the quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Vets Park.
