Roy-Hart track teams sweep Medina

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Roy-Hart’s Sophia Santella won both the pole vault and discus during this afternoon’s victory over visiting Medina.
Roy-Hart swept to a pair of victories over visiting Medina this afternoon to close out the Niagara-Orlans League regular season of track competition.
Roy-Hart won the boys’ meet 98-43 as Brayden Ricker was a double winner in the 100 and 200, Jayden Swygert in the Long Jump and Triple Jump and Josiah Rodriquez in the 1600 and 3200.
The Rams finish the regular season at 4-1-1 and the Mustangs at 2-4.
Roy-Hart won the girls competition 83 2/3 – 57 1/3 as Julia Miles was a triple winner in the 100 Hurdles, 400 Hurdles and High Jump.
The Lady Rams also had Sophia Santella double in the Pole Vault and Discus and Julie Rhode in the 800 and 1500.
Medina’s Madelynn Rutledge was a double winner in the Long Jump and Triple Jump.
The Lady Rams and Mustangs both finish at 2-4.

Medina stickmen down Brockport
Regaining the .500 mark at 7-7, Medina downed host Brockport 6-3 in a non league lacrosse game this afternoon.
Cole Callard scored 3 goals for the Mustangs as Liam Castricone, Dylan Lonnen and Will Prest each chipped in with 1.
Medina led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, 3-1 at the half and 5-3 after three quarters.
The Mustangs next visit Bloomfield for another non league contest at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Lady Bulldogs rally in 7th to nip Lady Tigers
Rallying in dramatic fashion, Barker scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip visiting Lyndonville 8-7 in a non league softball game this afternoon.
A two-out, two-run single by Kaylee Stoll earned Barker the walk off victory. An RBI single by Macie May and an error plated the inning’s first two runs as singles by Rachel Sutter and Madelina Pavlock set up the threat.
Trailing 4-1, Lyndonville had rallied into a 7-4 lead by scoring three times in both the fifth and sixth innings.
A double by Brooke Robinson along with singles by Elise Barry and Kayli Miller plated the three runs in the fifth while Addie Dillenbeck belted a three-run home run in the sixth.
Stoll finished with 3 hits as May, Pavlock, Sutter, Anna Bowerman, Madyson Flint and Arnie Sturtevant each had 2 for the Lady Bulldogs.
Groves had 3 hits for the Lady Tigers as Dillenbeck, Robinson and Barry each had 2.
Roy-Hart 15, Pembroke 7
Trailing 7-5, Roy-Hart rallied for 6 runs in the fifth inning and 4 more in the sixth to down host Pembvroke 15-7 in a non league contest.
Grace Pearl had a two-run single in the fifth frame as three errors plated the other runs.
Macie May then had an RBI double in the sixth as two passed balls and an error drove in the other runs.
Rams shutout Purple Eagles
Scoring three quick runs in the first inning, Roy-Hart went on to blank host Albion 12-0 in a Niagara-Orleans League baseball game this afternoon.
Winning pitcher Jake Gould, Dawson Draper and Ethan Kuzma all had RBI singles in the first inning for the Rams.
Roy-Hart upped the lead to 5-0 in the thied inning on a solo home run by Draper and an RBI double by Kuzma.
The Rams capped off the win with 6 runs in the seventh as Scort Clark had a two-run single and Gavin Heideman and Brayden Hy RBI singles.
Draper and Kuzma both finished with 3 hits as Rem Albee and Gould both had 2.
Jack Kinter had a pair of hits for Albion.
On the mound, Gould hurled a 3 hitter with 9 strikeouts.
Roy-Hart improves to 6-3 in N-O action and Albion slips to 2-7.
The two teams will meet again on Friday at Roy-Hart’s Gasport field.
Holley golfers win G-R season finale
The Holley Hawks defeated the Elba/Oakfield Lancers in a tight Genesee Region League Golf match 156-157 on Wednesday.
A 7-hole match was played due to the inclement weather.
Earning co-medalist honors on the match were Jada Fite (EOA) and Ben Cox (Holley) with scores of 35.
The Lancers fall to 8-4 on the season and the Hawks wrap their season at 3-9.
Lady Bulldogs down Medina to go to 11-0

Having already put a lock on the league title, Barker romped to a 17-0 win over Medina in a Niagara-Orleans softball game at Vets Park this afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs took control early erupting for 8 runs in the second inning highlighted by a three-run home run by Arnie Sturtevant.
Barker later tacked on 7 runs in the sixth inning as Madyson Flint had a three-run homer and Madelina Pavlock a two-run homer.
Sturtevant and winning pitcher Peyton Bradley both finished with 3 hits, including a double, as Pavlock, Kaylee Stoll and Rachel Sutter each added 2.
In the circle, Bradley hurled a 1 hitter with 14 strikeouts.
Barker improves to 11-0 in N-O action as Medina finishes the league campaign at 2-10.
Akron 13, Newfane 1
Kylie Mangione, Madison Gates, Ashlee Henning and Shanna Thomas each had 2 hits and Sloan Jonathan pitched a 4 hitter with 5 strikeouts to lead Akron (4-6) to a 13-1 N-O win over Newfane (0-12).
Alexander 11, Kendall 2
Scoring two runs in the first, third and fifth innings and 5 more in the sixth, Alexander posted an 11-2 win over Kendall in a Genesee Region League game.
Fast start sparks Mustangs past Bulldogs
Jumping out to a quick 9-0 lead in the first two innings, Medina went on to down host Barker 23-6 this afternoon as the Mustangs improve to 8-1 and maintain a two-game lead in the Niagara-Orleans League baseball title race.
The Mustangs grabbed a 5-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI triple by Aidan Papaj, an RBI double by Brandon Christiaansen, a sacrifice fly by Ryleigh Culver, a fielders choice play and a wild pitch. The uprising was also aided by a triple by Brody Fry and a double by Carter Woodworth.
Preston Woodworth, Carter Woodworth and Richard Keppler then all had RBI singles in the second inning as a sacrifice fly by Culver plated another run.
The Mustangs later capped off the win with a marathon 12 run fifth inning which included a two-run single and an RBI single by Papaj, a two-run triple by Preston Woodworth and a two-run single by Lukas Grimes,
Papaj finished with 4 hits, Carter Woodworth 3 and Fry and Preston Woodworth 2 each.
Logan Flint and Daniel Barry both had a pair of hits for the Bulldogs which slip to 0-9.
Newfane 11, Akron 7
A grand slam home run by Brayden Seitz, a solo homer by Cameron Perry and a triple by Jon Beiter highlighted the offense for Newfane in the 11-7 N-O win over Akron.
Dawson Stone had a home run and a triple and Vince Consiglio a double for Akron.
Newfane is now 7-4 and Akron 3-6 in N-O action.
Green has strong finish at NCAA regional

Finishing with a flurry of birdies, University of South Florida senior Melanie Green earned a top 15 finish at the NCAA Division 1 Bermuda Run Regional golf tournament which concluded this afternoon at the Bermuda Run Country Club in North Carolina.
Green, a Medina High graduate, birdied three of the final five holes to post a closing round of 3 under par 69 and finish the three day event with a 4 under par total of 212.
Finishing 8 shots off the pace and tied for 13th, Green opened the tourney with an even par round of 72 on Monday and then had a 1 under par round of 71 on Tuesday.
USF finished 8th out of 12 teams in the regional.
The top five teams and the top individual finisher, who is not a member of the top five teams, now advances to the NCAA national championship tournament in California.
Medina Unified basketball team tops N-W

Medina’s Unified basketball team evened its record at 1-1 with a 46-30 victory at Niagara-Wheatfield Tuesday.
Anthony Harrington scored 12 and Matt Kennedy 10 to lead the way for Medina as Xavier Moyer added 8, Aiden Cherry 6, Russell Brunette and Treyvon Shine 4 and Caliyah St. Louis 2.
Albion boys win to cap 6-0 N-O title season
Albion bested host Akron 104.5 – 36.5 this afternoon to complete a fifth straight undefeated 6-0 Niagara-Orleans League boys track championship season.
Cencere Lowe was a triple winner in the 100, Triple Jump and Long Jump and Ben O’Connor doubled in the High Jump and Pole Vault to lead the way for the Purple Eagles.
Akron downed Albion 108-33 in the girls’ competition as Madigan Regan doubled in the 800 and 1500.
Roy-Hart sweeps Barker
Roy-Hart downed visiting Barker 102-39 in the boys’ meet and 80-61 in the girls’ competition.
Brayden Ricker doubled in the 100 and 200, Jayden Swygert in the Long Jump and High Jump and Finn Cousins in the Triple Jump and Pole Vault to lead the way for the Roy-Hart boys’ squad.
The Lady Rams had a quartet of double winners including Ellie Brauen (100, 200), Julie Rhode (800, 1500), Kylie McOmber (Long Jump, Triple Jump) and Julia Miles (400 Hurdles, High Jump).
Kiera Dalton was a double winner for Barker in the Shotput and Discus.
Wilson downs Medina
Wilson also swept host Medina winning the boys’ meet 101-40 and the girls’ 78-63
Jaydan Ruble tripled in the 1600, 3200 and 400 Hurdles and Aiden Neumann doubled in the 100 and 200 to pace the Wilson boys’ team.
Kaedon Cleveland was a double winner for Medina in the Long Jump and 110 Hurdles.
The Wilson girls had a trio of double winners as Marissa Schultz took the Triple Jump and Pole Vault, Colleen Cliffe the Shotput and Discus and Savannah Jones the 100 and 200).
