Warsaw cagers take two from Albion

Warsaw swept to a doubleheader victory over visitng Albion in non league basketball action today.

The Tigers first won the girls’ game 49-47 and then the boys’ contest 60-55.

The Albion girls grabbed a 26-19 half-time advantage but Warsaw answered with a 15-6 third period scoring edge to rally into a 34-33 lead heading into the final period and the Purple Eagles could not regain the lead.

Julia Knight scored 13 and Cami London and Melia Prince both had 12 to lead the way for Albion.

In the boys contest, Warsaw likewise used a 14-6 third period scoring edge to increase its one point, 27-26, half-time lead into a 9 point, 41-32, advantage heading into the final period.

Albion rallied back to within four twice in the last two and a half minutes, first at 48-44 on a three by Nate Gibson, and then at 53-49 on a three by Isaiah Riley and a basket by Wesley Olles but the Purple Eagles could get no closer.

Tyler Cody and Kyle Radder each scored 13 and Olles 10 to lead the Purple Eagles.

Girls Basketball
Notre Dame 41, Holley 19
Jumping out to an 18-5 first quarter lead, Notre Dame went on to down visiting Holley 41-19 in a Genesee Region League girls basketball game this evening.

Sofia Falleti poured in a game high 28 points to lead the Irish.

Alivia Wolf had 8 points, Zoey Wolf 11 rebounds and Hanna Ostrom 8 rebounds for Holley.

Medina’s Senske earns title at Gary Gross Memorial Tourney; Hilton claims team title

Medina’s Reece Senske (116) emerged as the lone local winner at the Mustangs annual Gary Gross Memorial Wrestling Tournament which attracted a total of 16 area teams today..

Senske scored a 15-0 technical fall victory over Caine Rumsey (Grand Island) in his title bout after registering a quick 50 second pin in the semifinals.

The Mustangs also had Luke Duffina (131) finish second and Brody Fry (190) third.

Albion had Stryker Sanders (108) place second and Justin Mengs (101) third. Sanders registered three quick first period pins to gain a spot in the finals.

Will Kruger (160) and Hunter Jewell-Smith (285) both placed second for Holley-Kendall. Kruger advanced to the finals with two pins and a technical fall win and Jewell-Smith with two pins, the second coming in only 17 seconds.

Roy-Hart/Barker had Luke Fay (138) finish second as Joey Jopp (131) and RJ Townsend both placed third.

For Lyndonville, Ty Holmes (124) and Brody Hazel (145) both finished fourth.

Joey Burg (145) and Nick Fry (170) both placed third for Akron.

Byron-Bergen, which finished second in the final team standings, had a pair of champions in Brendin Galves (145) and JC Starowitz (215).

Hilton dominated the tourney winning the team title by a 76 point margin over runner-up Byron-Bergen 211-135.

The Cadets had six individual champions including Chrystian Velez (101), Lukas Yaeger (108), Jon Testa (124), Philip Testa (152), James Hargather (170) and Mason Suri (190).

The Most Outstanding Wrestler awards were presented to Jon Testa (124) from Hilton and Colton Havens (160) from Canisteo-Greenwood.

Knights Club hockey team tops West Seneca

The Roy-Hart/Barker/Medina/Wilson/Newfane Knights Club Hockey team visited West Seneca Saturday night and came away a 3-2 winner.

After a scoreless first period, West Seneca took the lead very early in the second period 1-0. Later, Austin Woodward (Wilson) scored an unassisted goal for the tie. Just before the end of the period, Gavin Ickowski (Roy-Hart) added another unassisted goal to give RBM the 2-1 lead.

At the 5:31 mark of the final period, Woodward scored the eventual game-winner, a short-handed goal assisted by Max Pilon (Medina).

West Seneca would add another score, but Noah Orenz (Newfane) in goal, along with the RBM defense, held West Seneca off for the remainder of the contest.

The next RBM Wilson/Newfane game is Thursday night at 5 p.m. at Nichols School against the undefeated home team.

Rams top Mustangs to avenge earlier loss

Avenging an early season 64-55 loss, Roy-Hart topped visiting Medina 53-49 this evening handing the Mustangs hopes of staying in the thick of the Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball title race a setback.

Dan Aquilina scored a game high 23 points to lead the way for Roy-Hart as Braden Ricker assed 12, Matt Aquilina 6, Tysen McCaa 5 and Jackson West 3.

Jerrell Nealy led Medina with 19 as Preston Woodworth added 10, Christian Moss 8, Jayzon Wills 7. Cole Callard 3 and Avion Johnson 2.

Roy-Hart grabbed a 31-24 halftime advantage by closing the second period with a 7-0 run on a three by Ricker and baskets by Dan and Matt Aquilina. Dan Aquilina had a total of 18 in the opening half including 12 in the second period.

Medina rallied back with a 17-11 third period scoring edge to cut the deficit to one as the Mustangs went 8 for 8 from the free throw line during that stretch, Neely had 6 points, Callard a three and Moss and Wills three-point plays in the stanza.

The Rams maintained a slender 42-41 lead at the end of the third period on a late basket by Ricker.

Roy-Hart moved back out to an 8 point, 52-44, advantage by outscoring Medina 10-3 over the first six and a half minutes of the final period. McCaa had a three and a two and Ricker a pair of baskets during that stretch.

Medina could get no closer than four after that at 52-48.

The loss drops the Mustangs to 4-3 in N-O action while the Rams improve to 2-5.

Akron 58, Wilson 34
Akron took over sole possession of the N-O lead by downing Wilson 58-34.

Derren Brooks scored 23 and Ben Gerstung 11 to lead Akron while Aidan Neumann had 16 for Wilson.

Akron improves to 7-1 and Wilson slips to 5-2.

Newfane 60, Barker 37
Newfane (1-6) downed Barker (2-5) 60-37 in the other N-O contest..

Mac Capen hasd 18 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists to lead Newfane. Camlo Flowers added 15 points, Kasey Wheat and Isaax Zachery 9 each.

Logan Murrell scored 9 and Isaac Monaco 8 for Barker.

Roy-Hart girls post win at Medina

Roy-Hart bested host Medina 64-57 in a Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball game this evening.

Courtney Aquilina scored 20 and Kaitlin Mettler 18 to lead the way for Roy-Hart. Kylie McOmber added 8 and Adella Dukes and Milie Owens 7 each for the Lady Rams.

Alexa Demmer scored 18, Sam Heschke 15 and Ariel Smith 11 for Medina.

The Lady Rams are now 5-2 and the Mustangs 2-5 in N-O action.

In the other N-O contests, Wilson  (5-2) downed Akron (5-2) 45-27 and Newfane (7-1) bested Barker (0-7) 59-20.

Rowan Simpson scored 15, Isabella Thrush 10 and Abbie Faery 7 to lead Wilson.

Bailee Patzyk scored 11 and Julia Noonan and Ah’Leena Golden 10 each to pace Newfane.

Jordyn Kinne led Barker with 7.

Seahorses split meet with Channel Cats

Medina split with visiting Roy-Hart/Barker in a Niagara-Orleans League swim meet this evening.

The host Seahorses won the boys’ meet 86.5-78.5 while the Channel Cats took the girls competition 101-44.

A win in the final event, the 400 Freestyle Relay, by the foursome of Jackson Reese, Timothy Zeiner, Aidan Papaj and Bryson Ford locked up the victory for the Medina boys squad which finishes the dual meet portion of the N-O season at 4-4.

Papaj was on all three winning relays for the Seahorses while Ford, Reese, Zeiner and Bradley Goyette were each on two.

Ford and Reese were also both individual event double winners. Ford took the 200 Individual Medley and 50 Free while Reese won the 100 Free and 100 Backstroke.

Garrett Glyshaw was a double winner for Roy-Hart/Barker in the 200 Free and 100 Breaststroke. Kordell Demaison also won the 100 Butterfly and Jackson Brauen the 500 Free for the Channel Cats which finish with a 5-3 record.

Ava Achtyl was a double winner in the 50 Free and 100 Free for the Roy-Hart/Barker girls as Jillian Ossont took the 200 Individual Medley, Gloria Haller the 100 Butterfly and Mirabelle Strong the 100 Backstroke.

Achtyl and Ossont were also both on two winning relays.

Madeline Mark was a double winner for Medina in the 200 Free and 500 Free.

Having clinched at least a share of the N-0 title, the Roy-Hart/Barker girls finish at 7-1.

Lady Tigers post win over Lady Hawks

Lyndonville downed Holley 49-32 in a Genesee Region League girls basketball game this evening.

Addison Dillenbeck scored 25 points and Isabella Groves had 11 and 14 rebounds to pace the Lady Tigers.

Zoey Wolf had 16 points and 8 rebounds and Alivia Wolf 8 points for 7 rebounds for the Lady Hawks.

Lyndonville held a 30-19 lead at the half.

Oakfield-Alabama topped Kendall 49-32 in another G-R contest.

Brooke Rodas had 8 and Addison Kludt 7 for Kendall.

Eagles and Hawks score wins in G-R contests

Kendall downed Oakfield-Alabama 54-47 and Holley bested Lyndonville 66-36 in Genesee Region League boys basketball games this evening.

CJ D’Agostino scored 20 to lead Kendall as Vinnie D’Agostino added 13, Jonas Rhodes 11, William Kludt 5, Sammy Conte 3 and Jonny Conte 2.

Vinny Golisano scored 22, Destin Kuyal 19 and Josh Silpoch 10 to pace Holley which led 25-10 after the first period, 34-14 at the half and 53-22 at the three-quarter mark.

Lane Woodworth scored 9 and Colton Smith and Juan Alberdi both had 8 for Lyndonville.

Kendall and Holley are now both 5-3 in G-R action.

Medina girls score win over Alden

Medina bested host Alden 49-40 in a non league girls basketball game this evening.

Alexa Demmer scored 11 to lead a balanced attack for Medina as Honesty Hill tallied 8, Ariel Smith, Sam Heschke and Tatianna Maxon 7 each, Cassidy Janas 5 and Roswyn Oakes 4.

Trailing 13-11 after the first period, Median rallied into leads of 28-18 at the half and 34-26 after three quarters.

Demmer, Hill, Oakes, Maxon and Janas then all had baskets in the final period to help the Mustangs lock up the win.

Final relay lifts Seahorses past Albion boys

A 1-2 finish in the final relay event earned Medina narrow 47-46 win over host Albion in a Niagara-Orleans League boys swim meet this evening.

The Seahorses 1-2 finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay had the foursome of Aidan Papaj, Timothy Zeiner, Juan Gonzalez and Bryson Ford place first and the quartet of Jackson Reese, Jonathan Dix, Owen Sargent and Nathanael Rutledge  take second.

Ford also won both the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Freestyle as Reese also took the 100 Backstroke and Bradley Goyette the 500 Free.

Albion got individual event wins from Matthew Kania (200 Free), Justin Kania (50 Free), Leo Bolton (100 Butterfly) and Logan Kast (100 Breaststroke).

Albion girls down Medina
Gaining a split on the day, Albion won the girls competition with a 50-38 victory over Medina.

Keira Sidari doubled in the 200 Free and !00 Butterfly and Willow Gaines in the 50 Free and 100 Breaststroke as Anna Grillo took the 500 Free.

For Medina, Madeline Mark took the 200 Individual Medley, Malloree Rinker the 500 Free and Maya Anderson the 100 Backstroke.

Newfane sweeps Roy-Hart/Barker
Newfane scored a key sweep over Roy-Hart/Barker in the battle for the N-O lead. The Panthers won the boys’ meet 102-67 and the girls’ competition 97-73.

Improving to 7-0, the Newfane boys lock up the N-O title as runner-up Roy-Hart/Barker slips to 5-2.

The girls title race is now deadlocked as Newfane and Roy-Hart/Barker are both 6-1 with one meet remaining. Roy-Hart/Barker visits Medina and Newfane faces Akron in regular season ending make up meets on Friday.

The Newfane boys had a quartet of individual event double winners as Dmitri Young took the 200 Free and 500 Free, Noah Kneeland the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Breaststroke, Matthew Page the 50 Free and 100 Free and Dylan Lamont the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke.

The Newfane girls had Avery Stevenson double in the 200 IM and 100 Free and Kimberly Schmitt in the 50 Free and 100 Breaststroke as Lauren Enderton took the 100 Backstroke.

Ava Achtyl took both the 200 Free and 500 Free and Abigail Glyshaw the 100 Butterfly for Roy-Hart/Barker.
