Rams top Mustangs to avenge earlier loss

Avenging an early season 64-55 loss, Roy-Hart topped visiting Medina 53-49 this evening handing the Mustangs hopes of staying in the thick of the Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball title race a setback.
Dan Aquilina scored a game high 23 points to lead the way for Roy-Hart as Braden Ricker assed 12, Matt Aquilina 6, Tysen McCaa 5 and Jackson West 3.
Jerrell Nealy led Medina with 19 as Preston Woodworth added 10, Christian Moss 8, Jayzon Wills 7. Cole Callard 3 and Avion Johnson 2.
Roy-Hart grabbed a 31-24 halftime advantage by closing the second period with a 7-0 run on a three by Ricker and baskets by Dan and Matt Aquilina. Dan Aquilina had a total of 18 in the opening half including 12 in the second period.
Medina rallied back with a 17-11 third period scoring edge to cut the deficit to one as the Mustangs went 8 for 8 from the free throw line during that stretch, Neely had 6 points, Callard a three and Moss and Wills three-point plays in the stanza.
The Rams maintained a slender 42-41 lead at the end of the third period on a late basket by Ricker.
Roy-Hart moved back out to an 8 point, 52-44, advantage by outscoring Medina 10-3 over the first six and a half minutes of the final period. McCaa had a three and a two and Ricker a pair of baskets during that stretch.
Medina could get no closer than four after that at 52-48.
The loss drops the Mustangs to 4-3 in N-O action while the Rams improve to 2-5.

Akron 58, Wilson 34
Akron took over sole possession of the N-O lead by downing Wilson 58-34.
Derren Brooks scored 23 and Ben Gerstung 11 to lead Akron while Aidan Neumann had 16 for Wilson.
Akron improves to 7-1 and Wilson slips to 5-2.
Newfane 60, Barker 37
Newfane (1-6) downed Barker (2-5) 60-37 in the other N-O contest..
Mac Capen hasd 18 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists to lead Newfane. Camlo Flowers added 15 points, Kasey Wheat and Isaax Zachery 9 each.
Logan Murrell scored 9 and Isaac Monaco 8 for Barker.
