Medina’s Senske earns title at Gary Gross Memorial Tourney; Hilton claims team title

Medina’s Reece Senske (116) emerged as the lone local winner at the Mustangs annual Gary Gross Memorial Wrestling Tournament which attracted a total of 16 area teams today..
Senske scored a 15-0 technical fall victory over Caine Rumsey (Grand Island) in his title bout after registering a quick 50 second pin in the semifinals.
The Mustangs also had Luke Duffina (131) finish second and Brody Fry (190) third.
Albion had Stryker Sanders (108) place second and Justin Mengs (101) third. Sanders registered three quick first period pins to gain a spot in the finals.
Will Kruger (160) and Hunter Jewell-Smith (285) both placed second for Holley-Kendall. Kruger advanced to the finals with two pins and a technical fall win and Jewell-Smith with two pins, the second coming in only 17 seconds.
Roy-Hart/Barker had Luke Fay (138) finish second as Joey Jopp (131) and RJ Townsend both placed third.
For Lyndonville, Ty Holmes (124) and Brody Hazel (145) both finished fourth.
Joey Burg (145) and Nick Fry (170) both placed third for Akron.
Byron-Bergen, which finished second in the final team standings, had a pair of champions in Brendin Galves (145) and JC Starowitz (215).
Hilton dominated the tourney winning the team title by a 76 point margin over runner-up Byron-Bergen 211-135.
The Cadets had six individual champions including Chrystian Velez (101), Lukas Yaeger (108), Jon Testa (124), Philip Testa (152), James Hargather (170) and Mason Suri (190).
The Most Outstanding Wrestler awards were presented to Jon Testa (124) from Hilton and Colton Havens (160) from Canisteo-Greenwood.
