Albion and Roy-Hart score wins at Section VI Class C swim championships

Albion and Roy-Hart both scored victories at the Section VI Class C swim championships today at Sweet Home.

Albion captured the 200 Freestyle Relay as the foursome of Justin Kania, Joel Slack, Matthew Kania and Finn McCue posted a winning time of 1:37.75.

McCue also tied for first in the 50 Free with a time of :23.35 and placed second in the 100 Free.

Roy-Hart won the 200 Medley Relay as the quartet of Sean Labiak, Garrett Glyshaw, Carson Hashem and Nick Armenia had a winning time of 1:48.77.

Labiak also won the 200 Free with a time of 1:55.74 and also placed second in the 100 Backstroke.

Akron’s Dawson Stone was a double winner taking the 100 Butterfly in :57.34 and the 100 Backstroke in :56.57.

Newfane’s Noah Kneeland won the 500 Free in a time of 5:11.20.

Warsaw Tigers romp to win over Purple Eagles

Roaring out to a 20 point first quarter lead Warsaw cruised to a 76-34 victory over Albion in a non league boys basketball game this afternoon at Albion.

Up 30-10 after the first quarter Warsaw went on to lead by margins of 56-24 at the half and 68-29 after three quarters.

Quinton Librock scored 18, Carter Bakowski 14, Ty Joy 11 and Jeremy Trzecieski 11 to lead the way for the Tigers. Bakowski scored 12 in the opening quarter.

Tyler Cody and Xavier Byrd each scored 9 and Blake Preston 8 for Albion which next visits Roy-Hart in a Niagara-Orleans League game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Late surge rallies Purple Eagles past Mustangs

Putting together a big fourth quarter scoring surge, Albion rallied to down rival Medina 50-41 in a Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball game this evening at Albion.

Trailing 39-31 at the end of the third quarter, the Purple Eagles came storming back to outscore the Mustangs 19-2 in the decisive final period to claim the victory and avenge an earlier season 64-55 loss at Medina.

Seth Krenning scored 5 points, Blake Preston and Kyle Radder 4 each and Wesley Olles and Isaiah Riley 3 each for the Purple Eagles during that big stretch run. A basket by Preston pulled Albion even at 41-41 with 4:29 remaining and Radder followed up with a bucket with 3:25 to go to put the Purple Eagles on top to stay at 43-41.

Preston finished with 16 and Olles 14 as Radder added 6, Krenning and Riley 5 and Jon Eibl and Tyler Cody 2 each.

Justin Pitts took game high honors with 17 for Medina as Jerrell Nealy added 8, Cole Callard 6, Trevon Shine 5, Preston Woodworth 3 and Roosevelt Mitchell 2.

Preston scored 8, including a pair of threes, in the opening quarter to spark Albion out to a 10-4 lead.

However, the Mustangs answered back with a big 21-6 second quarter scoring edge to rally into a 25-16 half-time advantage, Pitts scored 10, including a pair of threes, to lead the Mustangs during that stretch which also included threes by Shine and Woodworth.

Medina maintained a 39-31 lead at the three-quarter mark as Callard hit two threes and Nealy had a pair of baskets in the third period.

The decisive final stanza though was all Albion as five players contributed to the point production during the Purple Eagles big rally.

Albion, which next hosts Warsaw in a non league contest at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, is now 2-9 in N-O action.

Medina, which next hosts Barker at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, is now 3-7 in N-O action.

Newfane 65, Roy-Hart 38
Undefeated (11-0) defending champion Newfane clinched at least a tie for the N-O title by posting a 65-38 win over visiting Roy-Hart.

Nate Snow scored a game high 30 and Landon Braman added 13 to lead the Panthers.

Dan Aquilina was high with 19 for Roy-Hart which slips to 4-6.

Newfane will next visit runner-up Akron (10-1) on Tuesday in the N-O finale for both teams which will determine if the league will have a solo champion or co-champions.

Barker 60, Wilson 44
Luey Castro scored 19 and Logan Murrell 18 on six threes to lead Barker to a 60-44 win over Wilson. Aidan Mescall and Owen Harris both added 8 for the Bulldogs which improve to 4-6 in N-O competition.

Blake Martin scored 16 and Aidan Neumann 15 for Wilson which slips to 3-8.

Medina’s Preston Woodworth goes in for a layup against Albion defender Wesley Olles.

Notre Dame girls down Lyndonville; Pembroke tops Holley

Building up a 25-15 half-time advantage, Notre Dame went on to down Lyndonville 44-31 in a Genesee Region League girls basketball game this evening.

Sophia Falleti scored 14 and Emma Sisson 13 to lead Notre Dame.

Ashlee Stephens scored 15 to lead Lyndonville as Addison Dillenbeck added 7, Alexa Robinson 4, Bella Groves 3 and Jocelyn Mack 2.

Pembroke 45, Holley 30
Peyton Liss, Seneca Calderon and Reagan Schneider each scored 8 to lead the balanced attack for Pembroke in the 45-30 G-R win over Holley.

Schneider also grabbed off 12 rebounds an Liss 10.

Alivia Wolf scored 14 and Samantha Bates 8 to lead Holley.

Playoffs are next for RBM hockey team

Medina girls down Albion; R-H nips Newfane

Avenging an earlier season road loss, Medina downed visiting Albion 60-35 in a Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball game this evening.

Iyla Lilleby scored a game high 27 and Alexa Demmer tallied 15 to lead Medina as Nevaeh Moss added 8, Angel Mulcahy and Ariel Smith 4 each and Honesty Hill 2.

Madison Hughson paced Albion with 17 as Julia Knight had 6, Daci Doward and Paige Newton 4 and Kenzi Snook and Alison Gibson 2.

Taking charge at the outset, Medina jumped out to a 20-4 first quarter lead. Lilleby scored 7 to lead a parade of six Mustang point getters during that surge.

The Mustangs went on to lead by margins of 35-18 at the half and 50-25 after three quarters. Lilleby scored 7 in both the second and third quarters while Demmer had 4 in the second and 5 in the third.

The game was halted by officials with 39 seconds to go after a fight broke out between players on the court following a scramble for a loose ball.

Medina is now 3-7 and Albion 5-6 in N-O action.

Roy-Hart 43, Newfane 42
Roy-Hart likewise avenged an earlier season road loss by nipping visiting Newfane 43-42.

Lila Brigham scored 12 to lead a balanced attack for Roy-Hart as Courtney Aquilina added 8, Adella Dukes 7, Millie Owens and Juliana Terwilliger 6 and Madison DiNieri 4.

Roy-Hart is now 4-6 and Newfane 6-5.

Wilson 47, Barker 13
Having already locked up outright possession of a sixth straight N-O championship, Wilson downed Barker 47-13 to improve to 11-0 in league action.

Holley, Kendall, Lyndonville boys bow

Orleans County’s three Genesee Region League boys basketball teams had a rough evening as Attica defeated Kendall 77-49, Pembroke downed Holley 75-40 and Notre Dame bested Lyndonville 69-35.

Jack Janes scored 24, Cole Harding 16, Carter Gorski 15 and Clayton Bezon 10 for Attica which led 48-16 at the half.

Austin Werth scored 15, Austin Wakefield 13, William Kludt 10 and Hunter Richards 8 and 10 rebounds for Kendall.

Tyson Totten poured in 34 to spark Pembroke which was up by a 39-17 margin at the half.

Vinny Golisano scored 18 and Destin Kuyal 14 for Holley.

Holley, Kendall, Lyndonville girls downed

It was a tough night for Orleans County’s three Genesee Region League girls basketball teams as Holley, Kendall and Lyndonville all suffered setbacks.

Byron-Bergen downed Holley 41-25, Oakfield-Alabama bested Kendall 42-18 and Alexander topped Lyndonville 58-37.

Janessa Amesbury scored 19 to lead Byron-Bergen which was up 16-1 after the first quarter and 25-12 at the half.

Zoey Wolf scored 9 and Samantha Bates 7 for Holley which didn’t score from the field until midway through the second quarter.

Brooke Rodas scored 5 and Sophia Picardo 4 to lead Kendall which trailed 22-8 at the half.

Madison Boyce scored 16 and Alyssa Kramer 15 for Alexander which was up 26-15 at the half and 44-27 after three quarters.

Addison Dillenbeck scored 18 and Ashlee Stephens 13 to pace Lyndonville.

Local wrestlers are seeded for state qualifiers

Five Medina wrestlers have earned top six seeds for the Section VI D2 state qualifier tournament which will be held Saturday at Lake Shore High school.

Reece Senske (108), Luke Duffina (124) and Conor Crandall (190) are all seeded fourth, Brody Fry (190) fifth and Sawyer Kingsbury (215) sixth.

Roy-Hart/Barker’s Ronan Klug (160) is seeded third.

Roy-Hart/Barker will also be represented by Lucas Kimber (116), Joey Jopp (124) and Joel Hickman (160).

Albion’s seeded wrestlers are Jaxon Lynch (138) and Noah Marat (152)

Three Niagara-Orleans League wrestlers have earned No. 1 seeds including JJ Lucinski (101) from Newfane along with Jacob Stephenson (160) and William Wortkoetter (285) from Wilson.

Newfane’s Ayden Buttery (145) and Aidan Gillings (138) are both seeded second as are Wilson’s Hamza Merrick (285) and Victor Cusatis (131).

Section V State Qualifier
Holley-Kendall’s Hunter Jewell-Smith (285) is seeded second for the Section V D2 state qualifier tournament which will be held Saturday at SUNY Brockport.

Holley-Kendall will also be represented by William Kruger (152), Brenden Eichas (124) and Parker Denning (124).

Lyndonville’s Ty Holmes (124) is seeded third and Sebastian Temich (160) fourth.

The Tigers will also be represented by Chanse Amsdill (101), Justin Holmes (108) and Brody Hazel (138).

Newfane girls down Medina; Wilson locks up N-O title outright with victory over Albion

Improving to 6-4, Newfane downed visiting Medina (2-7) 56-48 in a Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball game this evening.

Sienna Bowers and Mallory Schultz each scored 17 to lead the way for Newfane.

Iyla Lilleby took game high honors for Medina with 26 as Ariel Smith had 9 and Honesty Hill 7.

Wilson 54, Albion 18
Wilson locked up outright possession of its sixth straight N-O title and 14th in the last 15 years by downing host Albion 54-18.

Peyton McInnis scored 13 and Rian Faery 12 to lead the way for Wilson which improves to 10-0 in N-O action.

Akron 54, Roy-Hart 25
Akron boosted its N-O record to 8-3 with a 54-25 win over Roy-Hart (3-6).

Abby Gerstung took game high honors with 25 and Sloan Jonathan added 13 to lead the way for Akron.

Millie Owens and Courtney Aquilina each scored 6 and Adella Dukes 5 for Roy-Hart.
