Lew-Port petitions to rejoin N-O for football
When the Niagara-Orleans League resumes football competition as a league this coming fall an old familiar face looks to be part of the lineup.
Following the recent decision to switch from a federation back to a league alignment for football in Section VI for the first time since the early 1970’s Lewiston-Porter has petitioned to join the N-O League for football only.
Previously Lew-Port competed in the N-O League in all sports until it left for the Niagara Frontier League in 1961. The Lancers competed in football in the N-O from 1953 (the league’s first season of 11 man competition) until 1960.
Lew-Port still competes in the NFL for all sports. The Lancers are the only Class B school among the league’s eight football playing schools, a lineup which also includes one AA school – Niagara Falls and six Class A schools – Lockport, Niagara-Wheatfield, North Tonawanda, Grand Island, Kenmore East and Kenmore West.
Medina played Lew-Port the last two years. The Lancers have also played Albion and Newfane in recent years.
Lew-Port’s request to join the N-O for football has been approved by the league’s athletic directors but still must be approved by the league’s Executive Committee which is expected to vote on the matter on February 14.
