Albion Midget League roundup

In scores reported from Albion Midget League action Thursday evening Elba ‘B’ downed Sandstone 7-2, Rotary topped Holley ‘B’ 13-5, Barre bested Elba ‘A’ 15-2 and Carlton topped Hamlin ‘B’ 6-1.

Elba ‘B’ 7, Sandstone 2
Aiden Downs had a triple and pitched three scoreless innings and Sawyer Gaylord had a double and 2 RBI to lead Elba ‘B’ which improves to 7-2.

Brycen Potter registered 12 strikeouts and Eli Spada had 2 hits and an RBI for Sandstone.

Barre 15, Elba ‘A’ 2
Scoring 5 times in both the first and fourth innings, Barre, which improves to 6-1, was led at the plate by Brody Furness with a home run and 4 RBI as Hudson Armer, Mikey Madison and Ethan Olles all had multiple hits.

Joe Mudrzynski and Brock Reigle had hits and scored the runs for Elba ‘A’.

Carlton 6, Hamlin ‘B’ 1
Luke Bedford had a double and a triple and Hank Aina 4 hits including a double to lead Carlton as Caden Woolston and Gavin Standish both hadded a hit.

On the mound, Bedford pitched 3 innings with 6 strikeouts, Woolston 2 innings with 3 strikeouts and Aina 1 inning with 2 strikeouts.

Orleans has G-R All-Star softball quartet

Four Orleans players have been named to the Genesee Region League All-Star softball team.

That quartet includes Lyndonville sophomores pitcher Brooke Robinson and infielder Bella Groves along with Holley senior catcher Leigha Walker and Kendall sophomore catcher Brooke Rodas.

Robinson hit .514 with 5 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run and 31 RBI.

Groves hit .371 with 4 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs and 11 RBI.

Walker hit .406 with 9 RBI and 14 runs scores.

Rodas hit .403 with 9 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs and 30 RBI.

Kendall’s trio of senior pitcher Danielle Offhaus, junior infielder Maggie Zastrow and 8th grader infielder Isabella D’Agostino all earned Honorable Mention as did Lyndonville junior catcher Addison Dillenbeck.

The All-Star team also includes Melissa Sawyer, Faith Goodenbury and Madison Boyce from Alexander; Reagan Schneider and Jayden Hootman from Pembroke; Maddie Robinson and Laurel Cius from Attica; Lauren Gartz from Byron-Bergen; Brea Smith from Elba; Emma Sisson, Mia Treleaven, Katie Landers and Loretta Sorochty from Notre Dame and Kara Tobolski, Caitlin Ryan and Piper Hyde from Oakfield-Alabama.

Sorochty was named G-R Player of the Year.

Barre downs Sandstone in Midget contest

Scoring in four different innings, Barre downed Sandstone 10-1 in an Albion Midget League game Tuesday evening.

Thailer Seibert banged out a two-run triple and Jacob Knowlton, Luke Snyder and Ethan Olles each had multiple hits to lead the offense for Barre.

On the mound, Seibert scattered 7 hits in 6 innings of work.

For Sandstone, Eli Johnson and Nikko Russo both had 2 hits.

Albion holds first alumni softball game

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Wednesday evening was a special one for the Albion High softball program as over three dozen former Purple Eagles players participated in the first Alumni Game on the new artificial turf field which was hosted by the Albion Softball boosters. The players were divided into three teams – Purple, Gold and White – and alternated playing in the field and at the plate. Here Nikki Messura (Class of 2004) is safe at home ahead of a tag by Sherri Palmeri (Class of 1984).

Cathy Schmitt (Class of 1992) hits a two-run home run at left  and at right Justine Daniels (Class of 2010) connects for a hit.

Kelsee Soule (Class of 2016) delivers a pitch.

A good crowd was on hand to watch the game action involving Purple Eagles alumni players from 1984 to 2022.

Albion tennis team celebrates N-O title

Contributed Photo – It was a banner season for the Albion tennis team which compiled a perfect 12-0 record to capture the Purple Eagles first Niagara-Orleans League championship in nine years. Team members include Mark Ames, Jason Anstey, Kailee Anstey, Oliver Beach, Nisi Beltran Roberlo, Hady Beltran Roblero, Leo Bolton, Maddison Button, Lindsay Crawford, Amiley DeBoard, Reagan Flor, Landon Graybill, Audrey Hawes, Richard Hernandez, Hanna Kumalac, Jillian LeBaron, Jordan Marshall, Mickhale Meyer-Lane, Kenadie Patten, Bradley Pierce, Krystlin Platt, Lucy Rivers, Jacqueline Santiago Garcia, Joel Slack, Carley Smith, Sara Thom, Erin Weese, and Bradyn Whitter. This is the second team this academic year Coach Jay Kovaleski has led to an N-O League Champions, the first being the Varsity Boys Swimming squad this past Winter.

G-R All-Star honors for Kendall trio

Three Kendall players have earned Genesee Region League All-Star baseball honors.

The Eagles trio includes senior Louis Conte, senior Jimmie Swift and sophomore Nic Cole.

Conte hit .341 on the season with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs and 22 runs batted in.

Swift hit .387 with 3 doubles, 1 home run and 16 RBI.

Cole made 9 starts on the mound for the Eagles registering 72 strikeouts and posting a 2.587 earned run average in 46 innings of work.

Th G-R All-Star team also includes Jaden Sherwood, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jay Antinore and Chase Antinore from Notre Dame; Shaun Alexander, Brenden Wescott, David Schnaufer and Avery Watterson from Oakfield-Alabama; Wyatt Bryman, Ethan Meyer and Justin Stockweather from Attica; Trent Woods and Tyler Marino from Alexander and Owen Hootman and Hayden Williams from Pembroke.

Kendall posts 17U diamond shutout win

Improving to 3-2, Kendall shutout the Ontario Eagles 5-0 in a 17U baseball game Tuesday.

Kendall quickly took the lead for good by scoring 4 runs in the first inning as a single by Vinnie D’Agostino drove in two runs and errors plated the other two.

D’Agostino and Jonny Conte both had a pair of hits on the day.

On the mound, Jimmie Swift, who pitched the first four innings, Nic Cole and Gavin Braun combined to hurl a 5 hitter with 9 strikeouts.

Holley United U15 soars to first win

Earning their first victory of the season, Holley United defeated host LeRoy S.C. 8-0 Monday evening in a Rochester District Youth Soccer League boys U15 Division game.

Cameron Kelley lead the attack with two goals. Mason Merle, Breyden Crawford, Dylan Warner, Tarek Garrett, Tripp Seaward and Josmar Hernandez also each contributed to the scoring.

Warner and Matthew Armstrong combined to earn the shutout in goal.

Holley United, which is now 1-2-1, next faces Batavia SC – Attica Friday evening at the Batavia Soccer Park

Purple Eagles duo earns first team N-O All-League tennis honors

Undefeated (12-0) champion Albion has placed two singles players on the first team of the Niagara-Orleans All-League tennis squad.

The Purple Eagles are represented by junior Leo Bolton who played first singles and senior Mark Ames who played second singles.

Bolton is a three-time first team honoree while Ames was a second team selection last year.

Albion has also placed senior Jordan Marshall and freshman Landon Graybill on the second team as senior Jason Anstey and junior Oliver Beach have both earned Honorable Mention.

The All-League first team also includes senior Lucas DerSarkissian and sophomore Daniel Goodwin from Barker; senior Cole Fleming and junior Sammy Niescier from Akron, senior Aubriana Christiano and junior Tyler Goff Brown from Wilson and senior Luke Gunby from Newfane who was named N-O Player of the Year.

The second team also includes junior Allie Trombley and sophomore Tyler Rothwell from Roy-Hart; junior Aubri Baltzley and sophomore Whitley Koopman from Akron; junior Avery Nedelko and freshman Lilly Gurski from Wilson and freshman River Jones from Medina.

The Honorable Mention selections also include senior Angel Mulcahy and junior Logan Trillizio from Medina; sophomores Kaylie Churchill and Garret Glyshaw from Roy-Hart; freshmen Shelby Robinson and Tessa Guenther from Wilson, senior Ava Blochwitz and junior Kia Lafromboise from Akron and freshman Dylan Lamont from Newfane.

Medina Mustangs FC evens score with Cosmos

Avenging an earlier season 2-1 road loss, the Medina Mustangs FC shutout the Buffalo Cosmos 2-0 in a Buffalo District Soccer League 2nd Division game Sunday evening at Vets Park.

Medina took a 1-0 lead late in the first half as Nate Dillenbeck scored off an assist from Greg Husung.

Casey Winiecki added a big insurance goal for the Mustangs in the second half as Steven Anderson earned the assist.

Tyler Ribbeck earned the shutout in goal. He and his Mustang defensive mates turned back several Cosmos direct kick opportunities in the second half to preserve the shutout.

The Mustangs and Cosmos are now both 3-2 on the season.

Medina next hosts the LaSalle FC at 6 p.m. Sunday at Vets Park.
