Alden win boosts Medina’s C North title hopes
Defending champion Medina got a huge boost in its quest to clam at least a share of a fifth straight C North Division football title.
That boost came from Alden as the Bulldogs knocked Newfane from the ranks of the unbeaten by a narrow 7-6 margin on Friday night.
The victory vaults Alden into sole possession of first place atop the C North standings at 4-0 (5-0 overall) followed by Medina at 4-1 (4-1 overall) and Newfane 3-1 (4-1 overall).
That sets the stage for a huge game this coming Friday night as Medina will host Alden at 7 p.m. at Vets Park. A victory would vault the Mustangs into a share of the C North lead.
Medina has only two C North Division games remaining on the schedule – at home to Alden on Friday and at Maritime (1-3, 2-3) on October 19. The Mustangs finish the regular season with a non league contest at rival Albion on Oct. 25.
Alden has three C North games left including at Medina Friday, at Akron on Oct. 18 and home against Cleve Hill on Oct. 25.
Newfane likewise has three division games remaining including at home against Tonawanda this coming Friday, at Cleve Hill on Oct. 19 and at home against Maritime on Oct. 25.
Medina’s lone loss was to Newfane by a score of 23-6.
This weekend’s C North schedule concludes this afternoon at Roy-Hart/Barker (0-4, 0-4) visits Cleve Hill (2-1, 2-2) at 2 p.m.

Holley bests W-C to cap three win week
Completing a three victory week, Holley shutout host Wheatland-Chili 4-0 in a Genesee Region League boys soccer game this evening.
Chris Mosier scored all 4 goals for the Hawks netting 2 in each half.
Chase Kempa had 3 assists and Cameron Kelley 1 for the Hawks.
Holley improves to 9-1-2 overall.
Purple Eagles blank Panthers in N-O soccer
Albion improved to 6-2 in Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer competition with a 2-0 win over visiting Newfane this evening.
Leo Bolton scored the Purple Eagles first goal on a direct kick and Tye Talbot netted the second off an assist from Joey Bropst.
Adrian Figueroa-Fuentes made 5 saves to earn the shutout in goal.
Akron 3, Roy-Hart 0
Akron (2-6) downed Roy-Hart (0-8) 3-0 in another N-O game as Mason Marcinkowski had a pair of goals.
Akron spikers hand Roy-Hart first loss
Akron knocked visiting Roy-Hart from the ranks of the unbeaten as the Lady Tigers outlasted the Lady Rams in a five set 25-22, 13-25, 15-25, 30-28, 15-12 Niagara-Orleans League volleyball match this evening.
Raegan Kern had 10 kills for Roy-Hart as Lila Brigham and Kylie McOmber each had 8. Ryleigh Capen added 6 aces and 30 assists.
Roy-Hart is now 6-1 and Akron 4-3 in N-O action.
Maryvale 25-25-25, Medina 12-14-13
Maryvale scored a straight set 25-12, 25-14, 25-13 win over host Medina in a non league match.
Addy Paul and Karlee Cau both had 3 kills and Maya Anderson 2 for Medina. Sam Heschke added 6 digs and Anderson 2 blocks..
Lady Tigers score shutout win over CSAT
Lyndonville/Barker blanked CSAT 7-0 in a non league girls soccer game this afternoon.
The Lady Tigers took a 2-0 first half lead on a pair of goals by Alexa Robinson.
Robinson added three more goals in the second half as Isabella Groves and Rylan Townsend each added 1.
Groves, Robinson, Braelynn Dillenbeck, Arnie Sturtevant and Alexis Dauphinee all combined to earn the shutout in goal as the Lady Tigers notched their third win.
Lady Rams edge Akron to take N-O lead
Avenging an earlier season 2-1 loss, Roy-Hart nipped host Akron 1-0 in a key Niagara-Orleans League girls soccer game this afternoon.
Kaitlin Mettler scored the Lady Rams lone goal off an assist from Kaylie Churchill at the 25 minute mark of the first half.
The victory boosts Roy-Hart into first place at 6-1-1 while Akron slips into the runner-up spot at 5-1-2.
Wilson 10, Medina 1
Wilson (4-1-2) downed visiting Medina (0-8) 10-1.
Arianna Lake scored the Medina goal off an assist from Alexa Demmer.
Newfane 3, Albion 1
Newfane (4-4) bested visiting Albion (1-5-1) 3-1 in the other N-O contest.
Journee Hughey cored 2 goals and Anna Chunco 1 for Newfane.
Julia Button scored the Albion goal off an assist from Cami London.
Wilson tops Medina to grab N-O soccer lead

Grabbing sole possession of first place, Wilson scored a 3-1 victory over Medina in a key Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer game at Vets Park this evening.
The teams entered the game deadlocked for first place at 6-0-1.
Wilson grabbed a 1-0 lead with 6 minutes to go in the first half on a goal by Keegan Herrmann.
Medina answered right back just over a minute later as Cole Callard knotted the score with a penalty kick goal.
However, the Mustangs could not find the net again.
The Lakemen regained the lead just four minutes into the second half on a goal by Herrmann.
Max Harmon later added the clincher for the Lakemen with five minutes remaining.
With two games remaining on the N-O schedule Wilson is now 7-0-1 and Medina 6-1-1.
The Lakemen have league games remaining against Albion and Akron next week while the Mustangs will face Roy-Hart and Albion.
Before that Medina will host Park in a non league game at noon on Saturday at Vets Park.

Mustangs post key C North Division victory over Tigers; Marauders down Purple Eagles

Staying in the title chase, Medina romped to a 50-12 win over Akron in a key C North Division game this evening at Vets Park.
Improving to 4-1, defending champion Medina keeps its C North title hopes alive as Akron slips out of contention at 3-2. The Mustangs now await the outcome of Friday’s key North clash of unbeatens as Newfane (3-0, 4-0) visits Alden (3-0, 4-0). Medina has already lost to Newfane but will host Alden next Friday.

The Mustangs scored on 9 of 10 possessions as Cole Callard kicked a school record 3 field goals, quarterback Preston Woodworth hooked up with Carter Woodworth for two touchdown passes and also ran for a TD and Christian Moss, Kolton Fletcher and Jayzon Wills all chipped in with TD runs. Callard also booted 5 extra points.
Medina built up a 20-0 first half lead as Callard opened that scoring surge with a 38 yard field goal and capped it off with a 17 yard three-pointer. In between, Moss, who had a total of 225 yards rushing, had a 17 yard touchdown run and Preston Woodworth an 8 yard TD pass to Carter Woodworth.
The Medina defense gave up only 1 first down on 6 Akron possessions in the first half.
The third quarter saw Preston Woodworth connect with Carter Woodworth again for a 17 yard TD pass completion and also ran 1 yard for another TD. A 40 yard Preston Woodworth to Fletcher pass completion set up the first score and a 25 yard run by Moss highlighted the second drive.
Akron’s two touchdowns also both came in the third quarter on a 17 yard pass from Brayden Lamont to Andrew Bergman and a 99 yard kickoff return by Jack Julicher.
Medina, which led 33-12 at the end of the third period, tacked on three more scores in the final period on touchdown runs of 11 yards by Fletcher and 58 yards by Wills and a 42 yard field goal by Callard. A 32 yard pass completion from Preston Woodworth to Carter Woodworth set up Fletcher’s TD run.
Dunkirk 54, Albion 16
Dunkirk roared out to 35-0 first half lead and went on to down host Albion 54-16 in a B3 Division game this evening.
The Marauders capitalized on a fumble recovery and an interception to score two quick touchdowns.
Noah Harrison scored both of Albion’s touchdowns on pass receptions covering 4 and 5 yards from quarterback Jonah Elsenheimer. Harrison and Elsenheimer also each scored a two-point conversion.
Dunkirk is now 1-4 and Albion 0-5.

Lyndonville nips Holley in G-R volleyball
Rallying from a two set deficit, Lyndonville outlasted host Holley 15-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-11 in a Genesee Region League volleyball match this evening.
Leah Kenyon had 2 aces, 1 kill and 6 digs, Hannah Fox 2 aces, 1 kill, 4 digs and 28 assists, Addie Dillenbeck 12 kills and 5 aces and Alyssa Prine 3 kills and 3 digs for Lyndonville.
G-R Girls Soccer
Byron-Bergen 3, Holley 0
Byron-Bergen erupted for 3 goals over the final 20 minutes to down Holley 3-0 in a G-R girls soccer game.
N-O Boys Soccer
Wilson 6, Newfane 0
Six players scored goals as Wilson tuned up for Friday’s key battle for first place at Medina by downing rival Newfane 6-0 this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer game.
Medina and Wilson are now deadlocked for the N-O lead at 6-0-1 having tied 1-1 in an earlier season meeting.
The Mustangs will host the Lakemen at 4:45 p.m. Friday at Vets Park.
Frewsburg hands Holley first loss
Frewsburg snapped Holley’s season opening four game winning streak as the Bears downed the visiting Hawks 42-28 in a non league 8 Man Division football game this evening.
Trailing 28-6 at the half, Holley rallied back to within 28-20 after three quarter but could get no closer.
Quarterback Destin Kuyal accounted for all four of the Hawks touchdowns. He completed 3 scoring passes to Vinny Golisano covering 8, 10 and 18 yards and also ran 4 yards himself for the other TD. Mason Moyer had a pair of two-point conversions.
Holley next hosts Allegany-Limestone in a non league game on Saturday October 12 at 1 p.m.
