Alden win boosts Medina’s C North title hopes
Defending champion Medina got a huge boost in its quest to clam at least a share of a fifth straight C North Division football title.
That boost came from Alden as the Bulldogs knocked Newfane from the ranks of the unbeaten by a narrow 7-6 margin on Friday night.
The victory vaults Alden into sole possession of first place atop the C North standings at 4-0 (5-0 overall) followed by Medina at 4-1 (4-1 overall) and Newfane 3-1 (4-1 overall).
That sets the stage for a huge game this coming Friday night as Medina will host Alden at 7 p.m. at Vets Park. A victory would vault the Mustangs into a share of the C North lead.
Medina has only two C North Division games remaining on the schedule – at home to Alden on Friday and at Maritime (1-3, 2-3) on October 19. The Mustangs finish the regular season with a non league contest at rival Albion on Oct. 25.
Alden has three C North games left including at Medina Friday, at Akron on Oct. 18 and home against Cleve Hill on Oct. 25.
Newfane likewise has three division games remaining including at home against Tonawanda this coming Friday, at Cleve Hill on Oct. 19 and at home against Maritime on Oct. 25.
Medina’s lone loss was to Newfane by a score of 23-6.
This weekend’s C North schedule concludes this afternoon at Roy-Hart/Barker (0-4, 0-4) visits Cleve Hill (2-1, 2-2) at 2 p.m.
