Mustangs post key C North Division victory over Tigers; Marauders down Purple Eagles

Staying in the title chase, Medina romped to a 50-12 win over Akron in a key C North Division game this evening at Vets Park.
Improving to 4-1, defending champion Medina keeps its C North title hopes alive as Akron slips out of contention at 3-2. The Mustangs now await the outcome of Friday’s key North clash of unbeatens as Newfane (3-0, 4-0) visits Alden (3-0, 4-0). Medina has already lost to Newfane but will host Alden next Friday.

The Mustangs scored on 9 of 10 possessions as Cole Callard kicked a school record 3 field goals, quarterback Preston Woodworth hooked up with Carter Woodworth for two touchdown passes and also ran for a TD and Christian Moss, Kolton Fletcher and Jayzon Wills all chipped in with TD runs. Callard also booted 5 extra points.
Medina built up a 20-0 first half lead as Callard opened that scoring surge with a 38 yard field goal and capped it off with a 17 yard three-pointer. In between, Moss, who had a total of 225 yards rushing, had a 17 yard touchdown run and Preston Woodworth an 8 yard TD pass to Carter Woodworth.
The Medina defense gave up only 1 first down on 6 Akron possessions in the first half.
The third quarter saw Preston Woodworth connect with Carter Woodworth again for a 17 yard TD pass completion and also ran 1 yard for another TD. A 40 yard Preston Woodworth to Fletcher pass completion set up the first score and a 25 yard run by Moss highlighted the second drive.
Akron’s two touchdowns also both came in the third quarter on a 17 yard pass from Brayden Lamont to Andrew Bergman and a 99 yard kickoff return by Jack Julicher.
Medina, which led 33-12 at the end of the third period, tacked on three more scores in the final period on touchdown runs of 11 yards by Fletcher and 58 yards by Wills and a 42 yard field goal by Callard. A 32 yard pass completion from Preston Woodworth to Carter Woodworth set up Fletcher’s TD run.
Dunkirk 54, Albion 16
Dunkirk roared out to 35-0 first half lead and went on to down host Albion 54-16 in a B3 Division game this evening.
The Marauders capitalized on a fumble recovery and an interception to score two quick touchdowns.
Noah Harrison scored both of Albion’s touchdowns on pass receptions covering 4 and 5 yards from quarterback Jonah Elsenheimer. Harrison and Elsenheimer also each scored a two-point conversion.
Dunkirk is now 1-4 and Albion 0-5.
