Robert “Bob” George Keymel, beloved husband, dad, grandpa and Paka, passed away Feb. 19, 2019 at his home in Alta Loma, Calif., after a short battle with cancer. He is at peace in Heaven with his Lord. He was born June 4, 1935 to George Keymel and Evelyn (Clement) Keymel in Albion.
Bob leaves behind the love of his life, Dee. They were married for almost 54 years as of March 12. He also leaves behind his four children, Charlene, Jeff, Kelly and John; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
From age five to sixteen, he was raised by his grandparents, John and Edna Keymel. Because of the small town atmosphere and the access to nearby farms, he often said that those were some of his favorite years, and that he had a good upbringing from his grandparents. He also said many times, “You can take the boy from the farm, but you can’t take the farm from the boy.” Bob was a member of the Methodist Church of Albion and was an Explorer Scout.
He attended Albion High School and was active in sports. When he was 15, his grandmother passed away, and it was decided that the next year he would move to California to stay with his mother.
Bob attended Baldwin Park High School during the first year that Baldwin Park had a high school. He then joined the Navy in 1953 and was a veteran of the Korean War.
He worked for Alhambra Foundry, Utility Trailer and Eastman Kodak, and he attended Los Angeles Manual Arts School, Pasadena City College and Golden West College.
After college, Bob had management jobs with Bostitch, Alemite Stewart Warmer, Haskel International and Air Liquide. While with Haskel, he was involved with aerospace and was grateful to have a chance to contribute.
In 1985, he and his wife formed a company called Promotional Plastic Products. The company developed short-run printing on plastic bags, boxes, and fabric products. In addition, the company made metering valves for kidney machines, and for petrochemical and other industrial applications. The company also flexo-printed birth control kits that were sold to companies all over the world.
Bob and his wife owned their first cabin in Sugarloaf in 1970, coming up to fish and hike. They owned a second home in Eagle Point and later a home in Hamilton Estates.
