CARLTON – Joanne M. “Jody” O’Donnell, 72, died unexpectedly April 22, 2021 at Rochester General Hospital surrounded by her family. Jody was born December 21, 1948, a daughter of the late Frank and Leona King.

Jody was a member of Holy Family Parish. She enjoyed working at the Democratic Election Polls, her Friday morning breakfasts at The Village House Restaurant and her visits with her friends who referred to themselves as the “Old Milwaukee Sisters.”

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by husband William J. “Bill” on March 7^th, and her sister, Katherine Cramer.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel and Martin (Marcy); grandchildren, Devon, Blaise and Jurney; and nephew, Charlie.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, April 28^th, at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 W. Ave. Albion, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. on April 28^that Holy Family Parish, 106 S. MIDDLEPORT – Norman George Tiefel, 85, died April 23, 2021 in his home following a long illness. He was born in Middleport on October 10, 1935 to George and Elverda (Maess) Teifel and was a life-long resident of this area.

Norman worked at Lerch & Daly as well as Al Morgan Chevrolet and Heinrich Chevrolet prior to his retirement in 1980. He enjoyed spending the winters in Zephyrhills, FL as well as buying and selling antiques and three-wheeled bicycles.

Mr. Tiefel was predeceased by his wife, Lois (Washbon) Teifel; and 2 step grandchildren, Kenneth J. Ramming and Arlen Ramming.

He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Jeffrey) Eick of Middleport, Lorna (Charles Kibler) Burns of Middleport, and Beth (Debra Genet) Teifel of Gasport; his step children, Kay (John) Peracciny of Middleport, John (Dorothy) Ramming of Gasport,and  James (Janice) Ramming of CA; his grandchildren, Ryan (Felicia) Eick of Gasport, Amanda (Nathaniel) Bedford of Middleport, Eric (Jaclyn) Eick of Lockport, Richard (Cherise Firestein) Ruppel of Middleport, Alysa (Juston) Worden of Albion, and Emma Burns of Middleport; his step grandchildren: Brett Ramming of Ohio, Matthew (Alexandra) Peracciny of Middleport, Christopher (Nicole) Peracciny of Lockport, Bridget (Corey) Benjamin of North Tonawanda, Patrick (Tanja) Ramming of CA, Timothy (Jennifer) Ramming of CA, and Sarah (Daniel) Droze of CA, 9 great-grandchildren and 17 step great-grandchildren.

On Mon., April 19, 2021, at the age of 66, James “Smitty” Smith passed away suddenly while vacationing. Born on Jan. 28, 1955 to the late Ronald (Charleen) and Pat Smith. 

Smitty is survived by brothers: Martin (Kathy) Smith and Thomas (Pam Caldwell) Smith. Husband of, Mary (Fagan), whom he loved and cherished as a true partner and travel companion, supporting her and his family in any way that was needed. His strong, stoic, and dependable presence has been passed on to his sons: Nathan (Joanna) Weld, Scott (Jessee) Smith, and Ronald (Andrea) Smith, who love and care for their families in the same unselfish way that Smitty modeled for them. He adored his daughter, Jessica, who was always the true holder of his heart no matter how many other girls joined the family. He embraced his daughters-in-law as a welcomed extension of his family and loved and accepted them like they were his own. “Pop” was endlessly loved by his grandchildren: Aria Cavalleri and Wyatt Smith, and Benjamin, Amelia, Jonathan, and the late Nicholas Weld, whose hearts are filled with memories of him snuggling them to sleep in his chair and giving them rides on the tractor. 

Smitty is a former employee of the Town of Lockport and Wyndham Lawn Home and proprietor of Jim Smith’s Tree Farm. He leaves behind several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends who were more like family, especially the Buslines’ crew. They will remember him fondly as an above average baseball and basketball player, mediocre golfer, fishing buddy, unconventional fixer of all things, Bloody Mary lover, and reliable Pony’s patron. 

Smitty was a man who could converse with anyone and made others around him feel valued and comfortable. He had a soft heart which he unsuccessfully tried to hide from others. His presence will live on in the same old stories that have been told a thousand times and he will be remembered as a man who didn’t have to talk about his love for others because his actions spoke for themselves.

The family will be present on Mon., April 26 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Bates, Wallace and Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport, NY 14105, to receive family and friends. A funeral will be held on Tue., April, 27 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity (St. Stephen Worship Site), 19 Vernon St., Middleport, NY 14105. Please assemble at church. Please obey all Covid restrictions.

Thomas Michael “Tom” Trupo, 78, of Waterport passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021 with his family by his side. He was born Aug. 12, 1942 in Hulberton to the late Francis and Florence (Engert) Trupo.

Tom served his country in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed watching sports and was always one to have a good joke and keep things interesting with his whit. Time with family, especially his grandchildren was always the most important time to Tom.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Patricia on Oct. 7, 2005; grandchildren: Antonio and Adrian Trupo; sister, Helen Hunte; and brother-in-law, George Hunte.

Tom is survived by his children: Tricia (Michael) Trupo, Tanya (Scott) Marek, Francis A.C. “Tony”(Jennifer) Trupo; grandchildren: Joshua Collings, Carson Trupo, Ella Trupo; siblings: F. Peter (Anita) Trupo, John (Katie) Trupo, Michael (Susan) Trupo, Mary (Gerald) Lord; caregiver and family friend, Wendy Brown; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ronald Bert Harrington of Silver Springs, Fla. passed away on April 9, 2021, after a long battle with cancer.  He will continue in our memories and lives as he transitions into the next.

Born in Lockport, NY Jan. 14, 1945.  He was a 1963 graduate of Medina High School, Medina, NY.  Moving to Baldwinsville, NY in 1977, then to Silver Springs, Fla. in 2009.

During his 35-year career in glass manufacturing at Owens-Brockway, Inc., Ron was also a member of the Barre Center Volunteer Fire Dept.  Member and President of the Baldwinsville Lions Club.  In Florida becoming Treasurer of the Silver Springs Homeowners Association amongst his many activities.  Ron shared his grand spirit, laughter and life with everyone he encountered.  His presence will endure, albeit a slightly lighter touch.

His passions as an avid golfer and motorcycle enthusiast are well known.  In his vigor for life, he is best remembered by his family, friends and co-workers for his personality, humor and his character.

Mr. Harrington was predeceased by his parents; father- and mother-in-law; sisters-in-law: Janice Scholes and Dorothy Harrington; brothers-in-law: Roger French and Robert Barney.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly (French) Harrington; children: Travis L of Katy, Texas; Wade A of Greensburg Pa.; Catherine A (Katherine) Rippentrop of  N. Syracuse, NY; grandchildren: Cameron; Abriana: Skylah and Xander Harrington; great-grandson Oliver Harrington; sisters: Kathleen (Robert) Barney and Loretta (Raymond) Lukach; brothers: Elmer and Thomas Harrington; sisters-in-law: Pamela French: Carol (James) Freeman and Mildred (Joseph) Sanfilippo; brothers-in-law: Rodney and Joseph (Mindy) French; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Not big on flowers or flashy demonstrations, if you feel compelled a donation to the American Cancer Society will pay forward the great work and assistance this organization provides so many.

Phyllis Hayward Moise, 93, of Scottsdale, Ariz. passed away peacefully on April 18, 2021.  Phyllis was born on April 29, 1927 in Buffalo, NY to H. Kenneth and Ruth Hayward.

She was the eldest of two daughters and was predeceased by her sister, Shirley R. Davis of Henrietta, NY.  Phyllis graduated from West High School in Rochester, NY, and the Rochester Business Institute.  She was married to Theodore S. Moïse III in 1960 and shared 29 years of marriage before his death.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth; her son, Ted, daughter-in-law, Lisa; and brother-in-law, Roy.  She has two granddaughters: Emily Moïse and Sydney Moïse.  She is also survived by her nieces: Denise (Zbigniew) Scislowski and Pamela (Art) Hulme.

She enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, and various other creative crafts and donated her work to the Hospice of the Valley and other charities.  Phyllis was a longtime member of the Mountain View Presbyterian Church and P.E.O. International.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sat., April 24, at 1 p.m. at the Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale, Ariz.  A Committal Service is scheduled for Tue., April 27, at 11 a.m. at the Mount Albion Cemetery in Albion, NY.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made the ASPCA, the American Cancer Society, the Hospice of the Valley or the Mountain View Presbyterian Church.

Nadine (Flowers) Doctor entered into rest on April 16, 2021.  Born June 12, 1926 in Damascus, Ga. to the late Mack Cooper and Bertha Webb.  In her lifetime, Nadine has worked for Disney, has cared for women as a mid-wife, and left her final work place in production for Southland Frozen Food in Barker, NY.

She was predeceased by her husband, Otis Doctor; son, Eddie Flowers; daughters: Eugunia Thomas, Cora Flowers, Burnice Rivers, and Loddie Bell Bridges.

Nadine is survived by her children: Alice (Theodore) Jenkins, Billy (Cheryl) Flowers, Howard (Gloria) Flowers, Martsene (Cynthia) Flowers, Otis Flowers, Drinda Doctor, Daniel Doctor, and Geraldine (Jason) Kiner; daughter-in-law, Iris Flowers; adopted mother to: Fatima Hodge, Cindy New, and Liza Middleton; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

MEDINA – Irene M. Gerzoff, of Medina, passed away on March 4, 2021 at the age of 99.

Irene was born on May 10, 1921 to Iona and Merton McFadden. Originally from the Watertown, NY area, she spent nearly 65 years living in and around Medina.  She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Gerzoff of 45 years.  Irene leaves behind a legacy of family love that includes her son, Allen Gerzoff and wife Cheryl of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters, Jackelyn Gerzoff of Medina and Sharon Bush of Atlanta, GA; plus six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Irene had a lifelong passion for the art of crochet, her numerous African violets, and the pleasure of reading a good book or solving a challenging cross word puzzle.  For many years Irene served as foster parent to more than 30 children in Orleans County and was employed by Medina Memorial Hospital and Fisher Price.

Irene lived independently at Maple Ridge Estates until the age of 93, when she took residence at The Willows where she filled the window sills of the dining room with her much pampered African violets and her crocheted doilies.  She happily crocheted for anyone who expressed an interest, friends and strangers alike.  Her candy dish was never empty, in case a resident or staff member should stop by for a visit.  Most recently Irene moved to Atlanta, GA to be with her daughter, Sharon and granddaughter, Stacy Smith.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 23^rd from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where her memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. Masks and social distancing will be mandatory. Private interment in Millville Cemetery. MEDINA – Francis M.”Frank” Kujawa, 76, of Medina, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the NYS Veterans Home, Batavia, NY. He was born on May 6, 1944 in Medina, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Wazerski) Kujawa.

After graduating high school, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and served overseas in Germany. Upon returning home, he worked various jobs and lastly was employed as a Warehouse Supervisor with Fisher-Price up until their closing. Frank was a communicant at the former Sacred Heart Church and was a member of the Junior Wilson’s Sportsman Club. He was a diehard Buffalo Bills and NASCAR fan. Most of all, Frank enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Frank is survived by a brother, Robert (Susan) Kujawa of Stewart, FL and numerous nieces, and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Frank is predeceased by his brothers, Raymond, James, Bernard and a nephew, Zach.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Cemetery on N. Gravel Rd. Rt.63, Medina.  Full Military Honors will be accorded.

MEDINA – Donald Anthony Taliento, 81, of Mesa, Arizona passed away on April 4, 2021. He was born in Medina, NY on January 24, 1940, a son of Ida and Anthony Taliento.

A proud Navy veteran, Donald served 4 years aboard the USS William C Lawe DD 763.

Donald is preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Ralph, and sister Caroline.

He is survived by his loving wife Lorine of 57 years; daughter Lisa; grandchildren Josh, Jenna, and Britni; several nieces, nephews and cousins, along with 7 great grand-dogs.

Donald, best known as Grandpa, is also survived by many adopted grandchildren whom he loved as if they were his own.

Through the years, Grandpa showed us the true meaning of unconditional love, and often told us we were each his favorite. His lasting legacy to us was to enjoy the small moments, love deeply, laugh often, and to enjoy gluten-filled food.

OAKFIELD – Thomas S. Butler, 43, of Oakfield passed away on Sunday (April 11, 2021) as a result of injuries sustained in an ATV accident. Mr. Butler was born January 14, 1978 in Batavia, a son of Beverly (Jack, Jr.) Hillabush of Elba.

He was a supervisor with the NYS Dept. of Transportation in Albion and a past member of the Elba and Oakfield Fire Departments. He enjoyed all outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, racing, and four-wheeling. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

Thomas is the husband of Kimberly (Drachenberg) Butler of Oakfield.

Surviving along with his wife and parents are his children, Jessica (fiancé Rob) of Batavia, Cory of Oakfield, Scott of Michigan, and Shannon of Oakfield; brothers, Michael (late Debrah) of Elba, and Peter (Katie) of Maryland.

William H. Mandelare, 80, of Brockport died suddenly April 7, 2021 as a result of an aviation accident. 

He was born May 20, 1940 in Holley to Dominic and Anna (Paduano) Mandelare and had lived in the WNY area most of his life. 

Bill was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from the Greece Central School District as an Industrial Arts Teacher.  He was a private pilot and flight instructor who held multiple flight ratings and was also a certified aircraft mechanic. He was a former member of the Model A Restorers Club, CORSA and was an avid shooting enthusiast, having won several awards in shooting competitions. He was always polite, courteous, gentle and was a person with absolute perfect manners. Mr. Mandelare was predeceased by his parents and his brother, John. 

He is survived by his son, Daniel Mandelare of Lockport; his former wife and mother of his son, Polly-Ann Mandelare-Lewis; two nieces, Diana Mandelare-Au and Patricia Mandelare; and 2 great-nieces, Paige and Lyndsey.

BARRE – Joseph A. Bissanti Sr., 67, passed away April 13, 2021. He passed peacefully surrounded by family after a painful short battle with cancer. He is already missed and will be remembered across generations to come.

He was predeceased by his father Alfio Romeo Bissanti, bonus father John Paul Vyrvoss, mother Gladys May Earle Bissanti Vyrvoss, and sister Orry (Dean) Schermerhorn.

Joe is survived by his devoted and caregiving wife of 25 years, Tammy Moyer Bissanti; children Lynnette (Brian), Joe Jr. (Ellen), Tony (Brooke), Vincent, Michael, Selene, Joshua (Kristina), Katrina (Bumpy), and Spencer.

Joe’s surviving brothers and sisters are Vincent (Rosalie) Bissanti, Linda (John) Lotze, Claudette (Bill) Roth, Johnny (Michelle) Bissanti, Rosie (Chuck) Shannon, Anthony (Linda) Vyrvoss; Grandchildren Liberty, Lily, Adrianna, Caleb, Hayley, Colin, Joey III, Billy Jean, Jordan, Trevor, Trey, JaQuess, Ugene, Jasmin, Kiara, Martin, Austin, Kamin and 6 great-grandchildren.

Joe will be remembered as a man with great spirit and love for his family. He enjoyed his music and cars and figuring out things on his own. He was always ready to lend a helping hand when asked. He was quick with a smile and a laugh even at his own expense.

There will be a family gathering for a celebration of life later this summer where stories will be told, laughs will be had, music will be played and we may even work on a Mopar product or two.

Dusti L. (Wagner) Ogden, 39, of Barker, NY, entered into rest on Thu., April 8, 2021 at Mount Saint Mary’s Hospital. Born on April 8, 1982 in Newfane, NY, she was the daughter of Anthony and Darlene (Gurman) Wagner.

Dusti graduated from Barker High School in 2000 and worked for 20 years in nursing, employed by various nursing homes and was currently working at Lockport Rehabilitation. She was a dedicated nurse and always put her patients before herself. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking and taking care of her two Chihuahuas, Chichi and Anna May.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her two children: Victoria (Ron Becht) and Skyler; a grandson, William “CJ” Becht; two sisters: Tammy Lee (Don Davis) Wagner and Tara Jo (Tad) D’Amico, both of Lockport; two nephews, three nieces and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dusti is predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Franklin and Faith Gurman and two uncles, William and James Gurman.

Joseph H. “Joe” Merkley, Sr., 49, of Clarendon passed away unexpectedly on April 11, 2021. He was born Dec. 9, 1971 in Brockport to Herbert Merkley, Sr. and Dora Cronk.

Joe enjoyed going mudding and spending time outdoors. He loved spending time with his family and friends, he was the best papa and would give the shirt off his back to anyone.

Joe was predeceased by his father, Herbert Sr. and his sister, Penthea Curtis.

Joe is survived by his wife, Anna; children: Zeufrse (Catelynn Kidney) Merkley, Cassie (Jonathan Glenn) Bazan, Brianna Button, Melanie (Justin) Reisman, Joseph (Alexxa) Merkley, Jr.; mother, Dora Merkley; several grandchildren; siblings: Herbert (Stephanie) Merkley jr., Corrinda (Mike) Shepard, Sandy (Scott) Ellis, Suzette Hahn, Sarah Davis, Yvonne (Phil) Newbould Sr.; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Anthony D. Eibl, 56, of Albion died April 11, 2021 in his home following a short illness.  He was born March 16, 1965 in Memphis, Tenn. to Andrew and Mary (Roper) Eibl and had lived in this area over 22 years.

Tony was a member of the St. Mary’s Archers Club, a former member of the Albion Fire Department, enjoyed fishing with his children, watching Johnathan play football, and taking great pride in taking care of his lawn.  He recently started his own Painting Business and was always busy doing something…while taking great pride in any work he did.

Mr. Eibl was predeceased by his mother, Mary Stone.  He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; his children: Samantha (Brandon) Chatfield, Kendall (Brandon) Eibl, Johnathan Eibl; his siblings: Chris Eibl, Mark McCully, Robin (Lyle) Demmin, Gary (Mimi) Kepner, Betty Kepner, Lisa (Demetrius) Gardner; his parents: Andrew (Anna) Eibl; in-laws: Barbra Mazzacano, John (Judy) Fernandez, Christine (Mike) Crane, Patrick Fernandez, John (Shanna) Fernandez, David (Angela) Fernandez; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion, Sat., April 17 from 4-6 p.m. where a Celebration of His Life will be held at 6 p.m.  Please note that the Funeral Home will be operating at 50% capacity.  Face masks/coverings will be required and Social Distancing Guidelines will be in effect.  Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Yvonne S. Conert, 47, of Albion died April 11, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.  She was born July 23, 1973 in Newfane and had lived in this area most of her life.

Yvonne enjoyed reading, watching scary movies and helping others; but most importantly, she loved being a grandma.

She is survived by her significant other, Jim Bartosik; her daughter, Samantha (Dallas) Dunn; her son, Joseph Schafer; granddaughter Alexis and another grandchild on the way; her mother, Jeanne (John Justice) Bobzien; father, Robert Bobzien; brothers: Chris and Pat Bobzien; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and a niece.  Yvonne was predeceased by her best friend, Cindy D’Amico.

Deborah S. Patten, 60, of Holley passed away suddenly with her loved ones by her side on April 11, 2021. She trusted in Jesus Christ as her savior, and has rejoined her loved ones who went before her in heaven. She was born April 10, 1961 in Holley, a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Farnham) Crawford and had lived in this area all of her life.

Debbie enjoyed reading and had very beautiful handwriting and enjoyed calligraphy. She was known for her amazing potato salad.  She adored her 3 grandsons and was all about her family.  She was a kind and generous woman with a big heart sacrificing herself for others.  Debbie would go out of her way to help others, never asking for anything in return.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Steven Mark Patten, Jr. “Stevie”; brothers: Randy and James Crawford.  She is survived by her children: Wendy (Christopher Drost) Patten, Lisa Patten, Thomas Patten, Alan Patten; grandsons: Steven Potter, Trever Potter, Colton Drost; sisters: Sharon Ruggles, Kathy Crawford, Kim Crawford; a young man who held a special place in her heart, Isaiah; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Suzanne C. Boyce, 74, of Albion passed away peacefully on April 10, 2021 at the Martin Linsin Hospice Residence. She was born Aug. 16, 1946 in Rochester to the late Irving and Rena (Monacelli) Laurette.

Sue was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph’s Church for many years and was a longtime member of the VFW. She enjoyed gardening and cooking in her spare time.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her aunts Hilda and Beryl.

Sue is survived by her husband of 21 years, Larry; sons: Jay Hadstead, Chris Hadstead; granddaughter, Katryna Hadstead; father-in-law, Andrew Jamele; sisters-in-law: Pearl Keitel, Anna Gibbs, Roberta Hadstead, Debra Boyce; brothers-in-law: Don Kietel, Layton Boyce; cousins: Joanne Monacelli, Jerry and Jane Clement; many nieces, nephews, close friends and family.

There are no prior calling hours. Sue’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held Sat., April 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph’s Church, W. Park St., Albion, NY 14411. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
