Robert H. Bogden, 83, of Medina passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the Orchard Manor Rehab & Nursing Center.

Born on July 30, 1937 in Medina, he was a son of the late Anthony and Mary (Shibilski) Bogden. Mr. Bogden was a graduate of Medina High School class of 1957. A lifelong farmer, he grew up on his parents farm and enjoyed many years of continued operation with his brothers. Mr. Bogden married the former Marcia Hill on September 18, 1971 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Medina. He was a devoted and lifelong parishioner of Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church until his passing. Mr. Bogden also enjoyed working as a school bus driver for Roy-Hart Central School for many years.

Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Marcia Bogden of Medina; and four siblings, Katherine Haroney of Virginia; David Bogden, Daniel Bogden both of Medina and Sr. Barbara Bogden, OSF of Buffalo.

Funeral service will be held on Mon., May 10 at 11 a.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, NY 14103. The Rev. Aaron Kulczyk will officiate and interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Charles “Charlie” F. Kibler, Jr., 76, of Middleport passed away peacefully on May 2, 2021. He was born in Java Center, NY on Oct. 17, 1944, son of the late Margaret (Knies) and Charles F. Kibler Sr.

 Charlie enjoyed camping with friends and family, staying active outdoors, and tinkering with anything that had a motor. He was a man that was never afraid to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Charlie was known as “the Miracle Man” at Roswell for his fight with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer for almost 4 years!

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Linda (Pleace) in 2005. Charlie is survived by his fiancé, Lorna Burns of Middleport, and 7 children: Christopher of Raleigh, NC, Greg (Maureen) of Arcade, NY, Cheryl Lina of East Aurora, NY, Joelle Newman of Wilmington, NC, Shawn (Laura) of Middleport, NY, Brandon of Medina, NY, and Kyle (Cortney) of Gasport, NY. Also surviving are his 13 grandchildren: Joshua, Patrick, Christina, Dustin, Tyler, Ryan, Samantha, Madison, Dawson, Jadra, Conrad, Sydney, Kayla, and 5 great-grandchildren. Charles has 4 surviving siblings: Cathy (Bob) Williams of Newport, NC, Bob (Brenda) of Java, NY, Norm (Karen) of Richmond, VA, Dennis of Richmond, VA, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 There are no prior calling hours. A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held in the near future.

William “Bill” Ireland, 92, of Kendall passed away peacefully May 2, 2021 at his home.  He was born Jan. 19, 1929 in Bainbridge, NY a son of the late William E. and Frances (Dunshee) Ireland.  Bill was a former employee of Cold Spring Construction and enjoyed mowing his lawn.  He was an avid hunter and conservationist but most of all was devoted to his family.

He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly; daughter, Tammie Sample.  He is survived by his daughter, Denise Norton; grandchildren: J.R. Norton, Mike (Shayla) Norton, John Ireland, Natasha Sietmann, Matthew Norton, Brian Norton, April Sample, Christopher Norton, Duane Sample, Phillip Norton; several great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild on the way; sisters: Irene Tillapaugh and Deanna Vogt; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Bill’s graveside service will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, E. Avenue, Albion on Fri., May 7, at 1 p.m.

Richard T. Brown, 89, of Middleport passed away May 2, 2021 at the Martin Linsin Residence in Albion. He was born Sept. 11, 1931 in Barker, NY to the late John and Winifred (Wortley) Brown.

He was a 1951 graduate of Royalton-Hartland High School. Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of Post 3180 Newstead Memorial VFW and L.L. Tillman Post 900 American Legion. On March 26, 1955 Richard married the former Esther Wagner and were married for 66 years. Richard worked for E&M Enterprises for over 40 years as a machinist and upon his retirement, worked for Keeler Construction. He was passionate about farming, hunting, gardening and fishing. He enjoyed bowling, canning, tinkering on his John Deere tractor, the NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills. Above all else, Mr. Brown loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Esther; daughters: Roxane (Mark) Botsford of Baldwinsville, Teri (Mark) Keeler of Albion, Wendy (Gary) Purser of Newfane; grandchildren: Danielle (Jason) Grilli, Christopher (Morgan) Botsford, Brett (Katlin) Botsford, Katherine (Ian) Foos, Christine (Clint) Masterson, James “Buddy” (Victoria) Keeler, Daniel “DJ” Davis, Allison Davis; great-grandchildren: Jayse and Jayden Grilli, Cash, Beau and Banks Botsford and Luke Masterson; brother, Robert Brown; sister, Betsy Neuman, both of Middleport; several nieces, nephews friends and caregivers.

The family will receive friends at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport on Thu., May 6 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., where Richard’s funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Hartland Central Cemetery. Richard Griffin, 83, of Albion passed away on May 1, 2021. He was born Nov. 7, 1937 in  to the late Francis and Rita (Gramlich) Griffin.

Richard was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served from 1956-1960. He was a recipient of the “Babe Ruth Award” in 1955 and inducted into the Albion High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1992. He was a retiree of Owens Illinois in Brockport and the Village of Albion.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Janice; son, Mark; sister, Sue; brothers-in-law: Roger Kaniecki and David Hobson.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Sarah (Scott) Hess, Martha (Dean) London and Elizabeth Mowers; grandchildren, Kate, Michael, Andrew, Paul and Dennis; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Fr. David and Donald; and sister, Karen Hobson.

Services for Richard will be held privately.

Gloria Frances (VanStone) Fall, 84, Newark, Del., died Saturday, May 1, 2021.

She was born in Albion, NY, the daughter of Jennings and Mary VanStone. She graduated in 1954 from Albion High School and in 1957 from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, NY. She then worked at Deaconess Hospital as a Registered Nurse. On June 25, 1960, she married her beloved husband, Dr. Michael H. Fall, who predeceased her.

She lived for many years in Altoona and Hollidaysburg, Pa., then later moved to Virginia Beach, Va.; Canoga Park, Calif. and then to Newark, Del.

Surviving are her children: Susan (Chuck) Bird of Flagler Beach, Fla., James (Brian Patterson) of Los Angeles, Calif., Peter of New York, NY; and Patrick (Louise) of Rydal, Pa.; and grandchildren: Chris, Lizzie, Ella, Ben and Ciara.

She was a sweet, kind, gentle woman who will be missed by all who knew her.  

MEDINA – Lois J. Sprester, 89, of Medina, formally of Middleport, NY entered into rest on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the United Memorial Medical Center, Batavia, NY. She was born on October 23, 1931 in Middleport, a daughter of the late Walter B. and Florence (Fizette) Newton.

Lois attended Roy-Hart Central School and later married the late Kenneth Litchfield, making their home in Middleport and raising four children. She worked various jobs including waitressing at the Apple Grove Inn and was owner/operator of Litch’s Store in Middleport and lastly retired from Harrison Radiator in 1995. Lois was a member of the East Shelby Community Bible Church and was a former member of the Lockport Eagles and the Medina VFW and the Medina American Legion. In her retirement years she enjoyed reading and going to the casino.

Lois is survived by her two children, Marsha Snyder of Medina and Eric Litchfield of Barker; a daughter-in-law, Tara Sprester of Middleport. Also survived are 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Lois is predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth Litchfield and her second husband, Forrest Sprester; three sons, Marty and Ricky Litchfield and Blaine Sprester; and a son-in-law, Donald Snyder.

Relatives and friends may attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 15th, 2021 at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Salt Works Road in Medina with the Rev. Erik Olsen officiating. *Wearing of masks and social distancing will be mandatory.

MEDINA – Mark D. “Don” Vaughn, 91, of Medina, NY, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at his home, with his loving wife at his side. He was born on June 9, 1929 in Romulus, NY, a son of the late Fred A. and Alma (Appleton) Vaughn.

Don attended Lyndonville School and in September of 1950 he married the former Gertrude Acker and together they raised six children. Gertrude passed on December 7, 1967 on the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.  He then married the former Viola Fearby who passed in 1988. He then married the former Mary Joan Dunn on April 22, 1989, making their home in East Shelby.

Don had a strong work ethic that he passed down to his children. He worked for 30 years as a Supervisor at American Brake Pad and lastly worked as Maintenance/Groundskeeper for Orchard Manor and the Willows and was known for being the “Jack of all Trades.” Don enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping at Wildwood Lake. He was well known for his canning and sauerkraut, which was grown from his vegetable garden. He was a member of the Junior Wilson Sportsman’s Club and a social member of the Medina Vet’s Club. In his later years, Don enjoyed word puzzles and searches and his daily trip to Jr. Wilson’s.

Don is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Joan Vaughn; his children, Les (Sandra) Vaughn of Medina, Darryl Vaughn of Jasper, NY, Terry (Graciela) Vaughn of Naples, FL and Ann Marie (Ivan) Cummings of Onley, VA; and a sister, Alice Zacher of Medina.

Also surviving are his step-children, Marcia Dunn of TN, Chris (Sharon) Dunn of Holley, Mary (John) Stenson of MA, Edward (Teresa) Dunn of FL; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his former wives, Don is predeceased by ten siblings – James Vaughn, Mary Smith, Robert Vaughn, who lost his life in the Battle of the Bulge, Eva Parker, Wilma Taylor, Myron Vaughn, Beatrice Childs, George Vaughn, Pearl Vaughn and Mabel Dixon; a son, Mitchel Lee Vaughn; and a daughter, Joan Fearby.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bogan & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St. Medina, NY 14103 on Monday, May 3, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will be private for the family. *Wearing of masks and social distancing will be mandatory.

GASPORT – Gerald Douglas “Gerry” “Poppy” Fuller, 76, died April 29, 2021 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. He was born December 17, 1944 in Medina, a son of the late Walter and Gertrude (Grimes) Fuller and had lived in this area all of his life.

Gerry graduated from Roy-Hart High School in 1964 and then served in the US Army during Vietnam. He was a member and Past Commander of the Gasport American Legion #425 Herbert Carr Post. He was a member and one of the founders of the Hartland Volunteer Fire Company where he also served as treasurer, fire police and worked bingo.

He and his wife Carol were members of the Johnson Creek Seniors and the Barker Seniors. Gerry enjoyed playing horseshoes, dominoes, word puzzles and playing cards, especially euchre at the Hartland Conservation Club. He worked at Upson in Lockport for over 35 years, starting as a tow motor operator and working his way up to boiler engineer, and after their closing, he was a truck driver for GOD and then Relco.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Charles and Walter.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol; daughter, Annette (Todd) Carpenter; son, Scott (Angela) Fuller; grandchildren, Jordan, Brandon and Alyssa Fuller, Lukas Koller and Patrick Carpenter; brothers, William Fuller and Lawrence (Karen) Fuller; sister, Evelyn (Clifford) Johnston; sisters-in-law, Judy and Pat Fuller; special friend, Tom (Annette) Meaney; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 22^nd, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 4447 Central Ave., Gasport NY 14067, where his Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m.

HOLLEY – William A. Murphy, 92, died April 29, 2021 in Elderwood of Brockport following a long illness. He was born February 24, 1929 in Holley, a son of George W. and Marguerite (Nesbitt) Murphy and was a life-long resident of this area.

Bill was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the American Legion, VFW and Navy Club of Brockport. He also belonged to the NYS Telephone Pioneers, the Holley Fire Department, the Antique Car Club of Batavia and enjoyed collecting, restoring and driving his classic cars.

Mr. Murphy was predeceased by his wife, Betty (Ward); his daughter, Kathy Murphy Rought; his brother, Bob; and sisters, Lois Dill and Betty Rocco.

He is survived by his son, Jack (Judy) Murphy of MD; his daughters, Linda (John) Nielsen of Holley, and Roberta (Howard) Knight of ME; his brother, Harold Murphy of SC; his grandchildren, Lisa and Matthew Nielsen, Beth Eisenberg and Rebecca Murphy; his great-grandchildren, Ethan, Jessica and Gregory as well and several nieces and nephews and special friend, Eleanor Nichols.

MEDINA – Joyce E. Dipini, 77, of Medina, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 27 at Orchard Manor Rehab & Nursing Center.

Born November 19, 1943 in Medina, she was a daughter of the late Laverne and Dorothy (Stolzenberg) Collins. Joyce was a graduate of Roy-Hart High School. For over 25 years, Joyce worked for Fisher-Price Toys in Medina. She enjoyed collecting, especially different types of dishes and Wizard of Oz themed items. Joyce was also a great cook. She enjoyed sharing recipes and was famous for her goulash, apple pies and other baked goods.

Predeceased by her husband, Pedro Lopez Dipini on March 17, 2020.

Survivors include her two children, Dennis Dipini and Denise Morgan (Chris Hare) both of Medina; two granddaughters, Stephanie Morgan and Gabriella Dipini; great-granddaughter, Mila Osmialowski; two brothers, Douglas (Mary Ellen) Collins and Robert (Beverly) Collins; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside committal service will be held on Monday, May 3^rd at 11:00 a.m. in Hartland Central Cemetery, Gasport. Geraldine S. “Gerry” Owens, 95, of Medina, entered into rest on Mon., April 26, 2021 at the Medina Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 5, 1926 in Middleport, she was a daughter of the late Duane E. and Ruby (Geiger) Stahl. She was a graduate of Royalton-Hartland High School. Mrs. Owens worked in clerical positions for many years for Lapp Express and also for the Apple Grove Inn in Medina. She had many fond years of vacationing at Lake Nipissing, Ontario with her late husband, June Owens and family. A compassionate person, Mrs. Owens loved animals, and most of all loved her family.

Predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Walter “June” Owens in 1975; her son, James Owens in 2010; and brother, Duane Stahl, Jr. in 2017.

Survivors include her loving daughter, Kathleen (Michael) Cardone; daughter in-law, Amy Owens; grandchildren: Michaela Cardone, Tèanna Cardone, Josalyn Owens, Max Owens and Austin Owens; great grandsons: Ashton and Denver; nephews: Dr. David (Marcia) Stahl and John (Karen) Stahl; and niece, Patricia (Victor) Pane.

Ruth (Frisch) (Clark) Harold, 103, of Medina/Middleport passed away at Medina Memorial Hospital North Wing, April 25, 2021. She was born Feb. 13, 1918 in Wolcottsville a daughter of the late Rudolph and Rose (Handrich) Frisch.  Ruth had lived all of her life in the Middleport, Medina, Wolcottsville areas.  She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wolcottsville, and loved knitting, shopping and spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her husbands: Robert Clark and Walter Harold; sisters: Edna Cummings, Gertrude Fissler, Alma Smith, Lydia Eick, Thelma Dunn, Minnie Noviak and Nora Frisch.

She is survived by her children: Elizabeth Sargent of SC., Kent (Linda) Clark of Alabama and Karen (Ronald) Matusak of Middleport; 9 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport on Fri. April 30, from 3-5 p.m. followed by her funeral service at 5 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at Royalton Mt. Ridge Cemetery.

Luis E. Lugo, 85, of Medina passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Mon., April 26, 2021 at the Martin-Linsin Hospice Residence in Albion.

Mr. Lugo was born in San Herman, Puerto Rico on June 28, 1935, a son of the late Josè L. Rivera-Justiniano and Obilia Lugo. He immigrated to the United States in 1954. Mr. Lugo married the former Jessie Louise Stahl on Dec. 9, 1975. He worked for Harrison Radiator in Lockport for 29 years, retiring in 1998. His hobbies included crafting, fishing, gardening and making wine and brandy. He was a collector of many things and his favorite pastime was playing cards (phase 10).

Predeceased by his beloved wife, Jessie Louise Lugo on Oct. 18, 2016.

Survivors include his children: Phil (Cindy) Stahl, Luis (Patricia) Lugo, Lisa (Keith) Rivers, Mike (Frances) Lugo, Dean (Lori) Lugo and Joe Lugo; nineteen grandchildren: Trisha (Dan), Aaron, Alex, Ashley, Christopher, Daniel, Katie, Corey, Cody, Kyle, Jessie, Autumn, Ariel, Brie, Jordan, Jayden, Nicole, Cameron and MacKenzie; nine great-grandchildren: Renee, Chloe, Cadence, DeAndre, Brayden, Brynlee, Bryson, McKinlee and Delaney; sister, Carmen Colon; brother, Josè Rivera; and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph Aina, Sr., 69, of Albion died April 24, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was born Aug. 30, 1951 in Albion, a son of the late James and June (Dingler) Aina and had lived in this area all of his life.

Hunting was Joe’s passion. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed riding his tractor and tending to his land. He retired from NYSDOT in Albion after 20 years and then went to work at Allied Builders in Brockport for 10 years. He was a good man who loved his family and lived for his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Patsy Aina. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley; sons: Joe (Bridget), Tony (Sandra), Brian J (Amy), Tyler (Priscilla) and Zachary Achzet who was like a son; grandchildren: Johnathan, Jake, Jax, Blake, Cade, Dayne, Morgan, Finn, Hoyt, Hank, Carly, Lyra; brother, James (Eileen) Aina; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lynn P. Carson, 79, of Medina entered into rest on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the Martin-Linsin Hospice Residence in Albion.

Born Oct. 9, 1941 in Medina, Lynn was the son of the late Paul H. and Ruth E. (Achilles) Carson. He graduated from Medina High School in the class of 1960 and remained close friends with many of his classmates. He served in the National Guard from 1962-1967. Lynn enjoyed his career as a machinist for Eastman Kodak in Rochester from 1964-1991 and also worked for 2 years at Fisher-Price Toys in Medina. A fan of fast cars, Farmall Tractors and John Deere, Lynn could fix anything. He loved spending time in his barn and taking care of his lawn. He was a familiar face at Rudy’s Diner in Medina, where he loved to have lunch with his friends and catch up on local gossip. Lynn had a great wit about him and was known to always give out good advice. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loving family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 23 years, Betty A. Carson; daughter, Kristin A. (Christopher) Vogt; son, Craig H. (Brandie) Carson; mother of his children, Linda Keep Carson; stepson, Kip (late Andrea) Lonnen; grandchildren, Michael, Emma and Ethan Carson; step-grandchildren, Hannah, Dylan and Maggie Lonnen; sister, Ann (Dick) Cooke; and his beloved dog, Rusty.

A graveside committal service will be held on Sat., May 1 at 1 p.m. in Millville Cemetery, East Shelby. Rev. Kim Smith will officiate.

Trinity Jewel Castrechino, 21, passed away suddenly on Thu., April 22, 2021 due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Born March 20, 2000 in Brockport, Trinity was a daughter of Brian J. Castrechino and Tracie Wilson. She was a graduate of Medina High School class of 2018. Trinity was an active member and Past Beloved Queen of Lockport Triangle #128 of the Organization of Triangles, Inc., a Masonic Youth organization. She enjoyed reading and making friends wherever she went. Trinity’s energy, spunk, joyful laughter and passionate heart will never be forgotten. She impacted many lives and will be forever missed. Above all, Trinity was a proud and loving mother to her 6-month-old daughter, Everlyn Joy Bale.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Barry Castrechino; and uncle, Kester Baker.

Trinity leaves behind to cherish her memory her infant daughter, Everlyn Joy Bale; boyfriend, Bryan Bale of Lockport; loving parents, Brian Castrechino and Tracie Wilson of Knowlesville; aunt and second-mother, Linda Baker; sisters: Amber Castrechino and Raychelle Wilson (Matthew Clayton); brother, Ryan Castrechino; grandmother, Karen Castrechino; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and her beloved dog, Mufasa.

Calling Hours will be held on Wed., April 28 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, NY 14103. Masks and social distancing will be mandatory. A memorial celebration will be planned for a later date to be announced. James (Jim) Reed, 72 of Santee, California passed away peacefully on March 2, 2021. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to J. Merrill Reed & Fern E. (Krammes) Reed on November 9, 1948.

Jim graduated from Royalton-Hartland High School in 1966 and entered the U.S. Navy. Jim retired from the U.S. Navy after 25 years with the rank of Senior Chief, EMCS in 1993. He served on the USS Preston, the USS R.B. Anderson, the USS Bradley, the USS Marvin Shields and the USS Shiloh. While serving his country he not only attended the service school but later taught at the Fleet Training School in San Diego.

After retiring from the Navy, Jim continued working another 26 years at the Navy Shipyards for George G. Sharp, Inc. He worked in San Diego, Washington, Japan, Guam and Hawaii as an electrician and foreman supervising the installation heating and cooling systems in Navy vessels.

Jim was described by his friends as helpful and kind. “He could fix anything!” When Jim wasn’t working he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Some of his fondest memories were returning to New York to go deer hunting. Jim made friends wherever he went and will be missed by all.

Jim was predeceased by his father, J. Merrill Reed.

He is survived by his mother, Fern Reed; siblings, Joseph (Sandra) Reed, Sally (Richard) Martin, Jane Reinard and Christine (Douglas) Burdick. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.

Jim’s remains have been buried at sea near Point Loma in the Pacific Ocean. Donations may be made to the Veterans Association or your local Hospice.
