LOCKPORT – Lyle Keith Evans, 63, of Lockport passed away suddenly on August 20, 2021. Born on July 29,1958 in Massena, NY, Lyle graduated from Wilson High School in 1976 and entered the workforce.

He was employed by the Operating Engineers, Local 463, where he served as a heavy equipment operator and then Business Agent until he retired in 2019. Over the years, he took part in several men’s softball leagues, YMCA basketball leagues, and trap shooting leagues. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling and working in his yard.

Lyle absolutely loved his four children and took pride in everything they did, coaching and attending sporting events throughout the years. He was also a dedicated grandfather, cherishing every moment he got to spend with his grandchildren.

Lyle is survived by his children, Kayla (Jacob) Rosenbeck, Tyler, Lucas and Ian Evans; his partner of 23 years, Diane Magliazzo; her children, Tyler (Michelle) Magliazzo, Aaron (Danielle) Magliazzo; grandchildren, Henry and Amelia Rosenbeck, and Abigail and Landon Magliazzo; siblings Wilma (Louis) Koel, Charles “Lester” (Darla) Evans, Jeffery “Lynn” Evans, and Sherri (David) Downey; sister-in-law Dawn Evans; brother-in-law Daniel Rhoads; several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Thelma (Ayers) Evans; siblings, George “Lonnie” Evans, Carol Rhodes, and Johnny “Larry” Evans.

LOCKPORT/WATERPORT – Gail S. Christy, 69, passed away August 19, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital with her loving husband by her side.  She was born March 21, 1952 in Buffalo, a daughter of the late Warren and June (Hilbrecht) Brauer and had lived in this area since 1997.

Gail owned and operated Christy’s Sub Shop in Lockport. After moving to the Waterport area, her and her husband Wayne owned and operated the Bent Utensil, making spoon rings, pendants and bracelets. They loved selling their jewelry at craft shows because the met many nice people along the way. Gail was known as Mrs. Christmas and snowflake because she loved the winter, especially snowstorms. She was an animal lover and had 2 golden retrievers, Buster and Gus. Gail was considered a late bloomer because she didn’t get her driver’s license until she was 41 years old.

She is survived by her husband Wayne, of 52 years; her son, Brian (Kim) Christy; grandchildren, Magdelin and Bishop; brothers, Gary (Marsha) Brauer and Douglas (Karen) Brauer; nephew, Todd; nieces, Susan, Wendy Kay, Heidi Kay and many cousins.

ALBION – Dorothy Cecelia Duvall, 93, of Albion passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. She was the daughter of the late Washington and Florence Hunter.

She grew up during the Great Depression and told stories about skipping school and going to the cemetery next to her home all day, hiding behind tombstones to stay hidden because she wanted to get a job to help the family.

Dorothy married Melvin Turner Duvall on June 28, 1946. Born to this union were two beautiful daughters: Gloria and Sharon.

Dorothy worked cleaning homes and as a dry cleaner presser in Rochester.

Dorothy enjoyed music; she was a self-taught pianist and organist. She loved playing for family, friends and in church. In addition, she loved singing hymns and listening to gospel music. Aside from her musical abilities, Dorothy loved to joke around and have fun.

Dorothy moved to Albion in February 2019 to be closer to her family. Before moving to Albion, she was a member of the Trinity Inter-Faith Church in Rochester.

She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin DuVall; daughter, Sharon DuVall; four brothers, Allen Hunter, William Hunter, Eugene Hunter and Donald Hunter; two sisters, Phyllis Moore and Ruth Cooper; one grandson, George Chambers, Jr.; and special friend; Herman Powell.

She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter, Gloria (Thaddeus) Nauden; three grandchildren, Sharon Chambers, Thaddeus Nauden, Jr. and Venita Nauden; two great-granddaughters, Justice and Andrea Nauden; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Hunter and Harriet Ponds; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 W. Ave. Albion on Wednesday, August 25^th, from 10 a.m. to noon where her funeral service will be held at noon. Howard L. Schwartz, 91, of Gasport, NY, entered into rest at his home on Aug. 2, 2021.

Born in North Tonawanda, NY on March 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Otto and Edna Schwartz.  He was an active member of the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and enjoyed sharing his faith with others.  He worked as a job site supervisor for Oakgrove Construction, retiring on June 1, 1992.

He will be remembered for his many years of boating with his family and friends, and for the winters he and Martha spent as snowbirds in Boynton Beach, Florida.

He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Martha; his four brothers: Richard, Otto, Leslie and Ralph; and three sisters: Betty Brooks, Eleanor Gehl, and Millie Werth.  He is survived by three children: Mark (Jacklyn) Schwartz, Ronald (Cheri) Schwartz, and Lisa (Matthew) Galyardt; his granddaughters, great grandson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leonard and Shirley Rosselli; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Janet M. Rook, 84, of Medina, NY, went to be with the Lord on June 11, 2021 at the Batavia Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of the Medina First Presbyterian Church and served as Deacon and for over nine years and as a Sunday School Teacher.

Janet is survived by her children: Terri (Richard Heiney) Rook of Webster, NY, Geoffrey Rook of Mich. and Michael Rook of Cali.; three grandchildren: Allison, Garrison and Stephanie; two great-grandchildren: Raelynn and Michael; and a sister-in-law and sister at heart, Mary Scheeder of Williamsville, NY.

Charles Howard Robishaw, 93, of Clarendon passed away Aug. 17, 2021.  

Predeceased by parents, Howard and Evelyn (Robinson); sister, Shirley (Degen); brother, Neal; his loving wife of 72 years, Carol, passing just 2 months prior.

Charles was home born in Clarendon, NY.  He worked at Bausch and Lomb and joined the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in 1954.  He was a private pilot and traveled with Carol to game warden conventions and outings.  He was a member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and several Flyers clubs.  He lived life by his terms.  

Charlie is survived by his son, Randy (Joni); sister-in-law, Elizabeth Robishaw of Holley; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Sat., Aug. 28 at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home, 16650 State Route 31, Holley, NY 14470. Betty J. Crowe, 83, of Morton passed away peacefully on Aug. 10, 2021.

Betty was born Oct. 26, 1937, in Caneyville, Kentucky to McKinley and Irene Smith. Betty married Ralph Crowe in December 1963 and together they raised 3 sons: Douglas (Beth) McCarty, Steven (Deborah) Crowe and Carl Crowe (Sherry Gardner).  Betty retired from Kendall Central School in 1998.

Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved and cherished spending time with her 5 grandchildren: Kinley, Zackary, Jena, Carl Jr., and Grace. She also loved walking with her walking buddies and visiting with her former co-workers.  Betty will be missed dearly by all the lives she enriched by her presence.

Quentin Laquay Maurice Gibson, 36, of Batavia, NY, passed away on Thu., Aug. 12, 2021, unexpectedly at his home. Born on Aug. 16, 1984 in Albion, NY, he was the son of Darrell Shine and Donnie Gibson.

Quentin enjoyed basketball and was an avid online gamer, but most of all he was a dedicated father and enjoyed spending time with his children.

Besides his loving parents, Quentin is survived by his three children: Amirah and Marquay Gibson of Lockport and Akai Ferguson of Rochester; eleven siblings: William (Cali) Gibson of Lockport, Shatique Gibson of Rochester, Kimberly Guy of Brockport, Dana Shine of Rochester, Darrell and Naomi Shine, both of Medina, Tori (Jason) Abron of Albion, Kwantisha Richardson and Sharde Richardson, both of Lockport, Kristope Shine and Shantia Shine, both of Rochester. Also surviving is a host of aunt, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins.

Jane M. Powley, 82, of Albion passed away on Mon., Aug. 16, 2021 at Rochester General Hospital after a short illness.  She was a daughter of the late Howard and Ruby Balfour of Oakfield and had lived in this area all of her life. 

Jane received her Bachelors in teaching from Geneseo College in 1959 and her Masters from SUNY Brockport in 1963.  Jane taught in Elba School District for one year and then at Albion Primary School for 29 years where she retired in 1994.  She loved being a teacher.  She also loved westerns and ice cream. 

Jane was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Terry D. Powley in 2014.  She is survived by her three sons: Mark Powley, Donald (Michele) Powley and Jason Powley; four grandchildren: Michael, Amanda, Ruth, Hope; two great-grandchildren: Lucas and Natalie. 

Per Jane’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.  Her graveside service will be on Sat. Aug. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Millville Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in her name to the Albion Alumni Foundation, P.O. KENT – Arlean J. Snyder, 77, died August 14, 2021 in Orchard Manor Nursing Home following a long illness. She was born September 16, 1943 in Albion to Charles and Olive (Bartlett) Andre and was a life-long resident of this area.

Arlean was a member of Holy Family Parish, and worked as a beautician and barber in Albion and in Knowlesville for many years. She was a lover of all animals, in particular dogs and cats.  Mrs. Snyder was predeceased by her parents as well as her siblings: Richard and Bob Andre, Rose Patterson and Leona Perry.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Edward; her children, Edward (Barb) Snyder of Albion and Christine Snyder of Syracuse; a brother, James Andre of Kendall; a sister, Anna Nichols of Middlesex as well as several nieces and nephews.

MEDINA – Justin L. Keppler, 36, of Santa Monica, California and Medina, New York entered into rest on Sunday, August 1, 2021 following a brief illness complicated by a congenital heart condition.

Justin was born on December 8, 1984 (Our Blessed Mother Mary’s Immaculate Conception), a son of Peter and Cheryl (Soles) Keppler. He was a graduate of Medina High School, class of 2003, and went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from SUNY University at Buffalo in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.

Justin moved to Santa Monica, California in 2008 to pursue tech and professional entertainment opportunities. Justin had much success in Los Angeles; he worked for prestigious companies, and took every exciting opportunity he was presented. Justin’s latest ventures included patents and launching inventions. Inventive by nature, Justin was proud of being a descendent of Johannes Kepler. He acquired vast knowledge of the Keppler family history and was handed down the title of the Keppler Family Genealogist.

He considered himself bicoastal as he travelled back to New York often to be with family. Justin was a Conscientious Director. Creative, articulate, talented and inventive are just a few words that begin to describe who Justin was. Whether through music or design, he was great at creating spaces for others to gather and experience. A lover of music, he was a talented and creative DJ under his musical persona, Unshazamable. Owner of Keppler Co., he designed his own woodworking pieces and loved designing different light art pieces. He enjoyed photography and did not miss an opportunity to document his life’s moments. In California, he was a slacklining enthusiast who never missed a day of slacklining on the beach and never missed a sunset. Back in New York, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at Paradise Farm and Schroon Lake. Justin lived life exactly the way he wanted, to the fullest. He leaves behind a legacy of light and love and will be dearly missed by all that knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Peter and Cheryl Keppler; brother, Jason (Nicole) Keppler; sisters, Jenni Keppler and Julia (Clay Barna) Keppler all of Medina; special cousins, Mandee and Aly DeMarco; girlfriend, Hannah Ledger of Santa Monica; maternal grandmother, Frederica Soles; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family; and many close friends, whom he considered family in California.

BURT – David D. Pritchard, Sr., of Burt, entered into rest on August 11, 2021 at his home with family by his side, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Mr. Pritchard was born in Medina, April 9, 1946, a son the late George W. and Sallie E. (Holloway) Pritchard.

A graduate of Medina High School, class of 1964, he was employed by Harrison Radiator Division of GMC for over thirty years. He enjoyed part-time cash crop farming and parking lot striping with his wife, Terry Jo, and son, Tim. David was an active member of the Ransomville Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses where he was an elder and enjoyed sharing Bible truth with others. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who enjoyed laughing and making others laugh.

Survivors include his wife, Terry Jo (Blackburn); children, D. Douglas (Pam) Pritchard, Timothy G. (Carmen) Pritchard, Laura M. (Tom) Gardner, Wendy J. (Matt) Rosselli, Mona L. (Paul) Pegelow, and Rachel F. (Patrick) Woodworth; grandchildren, Alex (Jessica), Kyle (Sylvia) and Chase Pritchard; Tony, Jacob and Sam Rosselli; Ryan Pegelow; Nathan, Lane and Morgan Woodworth; great-granddaughter, Aurelia Jae Pritchard; siblings, George (Carman) Pritchard, Donald Pritchard (fiancé Sandy Thaine), Marylouise (Ray) Schuck and Brenda Lee Pritchard.

MEDINA – Marion Joan “Jo” Forrestel, a citizen of the world, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2021, in Buffalo, NY, surrounded by her loving family. Born, April 5, 1927 to Laurita Pearl Miles and Francis Joseph Payjack of Medina, NY, she married John Thomas Forrestel on Nov. 26, 1949 in her home town. The couple had 10 children, all girls, in a span of thirteen years.

Jo was a strong and courageous woman. She and her husband were adventurers and both certified captains. They sailed their 51-foot ketch Liberty across the Atlantic and around the Mediterranean with a crew of four daughters. Jo was an accomplished celestial navigator and Morse code operator. Tom Forrestel passed away in the Greek Islands two years into the trip, leaving Jo to finish the voyage with her daughters. They eventually settled in Miami where, recognized for her accomplishment, she was the first woman accepted to Coral Reef Yacht Club. She and Tom had raced Snipes at Cuba Lake Yacht Club where she was also a member.

Before her marriage, Jo had worked in the accounting office at Payjack Oldsmobile. She loved horseback riding, curling, bowling, and was an avid golfer. She was captain of her basketball team at Medina High School and Penn Hall. An accomplished violinist, she was first chair in the Genesee Symphony Orchestra.

When not traveling, Jo hung her hat in several places, Medina, Miami, Cuba Lake, Savannah, Baltimore, and Buffalo. She touched and was an inspiration to many lives, having a wonderful sense of humor and interest in everyone she met.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Thomas Forrestel in 1977; her daughter, Abigail Louise in 1962; and her twin sisters, Maxine Johnston and Marcia Botsford.

Jo is survived by daughters, Francy (Doug) Zingale, Patricia Forrestel, Amy (Jamie) Pierotti, Teresa (Marc) Sarnoff, Susy (Jim) Schultz, Margaret (Dan) Dolling, Katy (Jens) Grunner-Hegge, Joesy (Rob) Missimer, Libby (Tim) Naylor; and her sister, Bonnie (Chuck) Hartway. She was a grandmother to 21, great-grandmother to 17, and had many nieces and nephews.

MEDINA – Andrea L. Kujawa, 36, of Medina passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Unity Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a short and sudden illness.

Andrea was born in Medina on April 16, 1985, the only child of Claudia and James Kujawa.  Andrea graduated from Medina High School Class of 2003, where she was a member of James Perry Craft School of Math and Sciences, The National Honor Society and the high school swim team.

After completing studies at The University of Pittsburgh, Andrea returned to Medina where she traded on the internet until 2014, which gave her time to care for her mother who was battling cancer.

Survivors include her uncle Robert (Susan) Kujawa of Florida, several cousins in Florida, Albion and Medina, including Joseph (Barbara) Kujawa.

Memorials may be made to any animal care facility in Andrea’s name.

There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be announced at a later date. Andrea will be buried alongside her mother at the Britt family plot in the Millville Cemetery in the fall.

ALBION – Nancy A. Eckerd, 79, died August 12, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born April 21, 1942 in Middleport, a daughter of the late George and Sylvia (Retchless) Wescott and had lived in this area all of her life.

Nancy enjoyed the outdoors, fairies, cats and bride dresses. She loved cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband Abraham; grandson Dustin Eckerd; granddaughter Amana Lindenmuth; sisters Hazel Fidanza, Dorothy DiCureia, Helen Montgomery; and brother Thomas Westcott.

She is survived by her sons Clayton (Donna) Eckerd of Hilton and Scott (Caroline) Eckerd of Holley; her daughters Charlene (Jay) Lindenmuth of Rochester and Lynn Eckerd of Albion; brother Richard (Vonda) Wescott of Middleport; grandchildren Ashley, Heidi (Joe), Aaron, Austin, Angel, Amber, Blake and Brianna; great-grandchildren Carlos, Zoey, Aurora, Brook and John III, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Henry L. “Hank” Taylor, a native of Fort Valley, GA, and resident of Rochester, NY, went home to be with the Lord on August 7, 2021.

Henry was born May 3, 1945 to the late William Gray and Willie Mae Gray. He graduated from Medina High School.  He entered the United States Marine Corps on June 25, 1964 and returned home on August 26, 1968.  He later worked for Conrail until his retirement.  He was a loving father, grandfather and proud Marine.  He loved to listen to old school “Motown” music and he lived by the motto “Striving and Surviving”.

Henry leaves to cherish in his memory his four children, Henry (Monique) Taylor Jr. of Fort Worth, TX, a loving a devoted daughter Renee (Fiayari) Taylor of Rochester, NY, Scott Hinkley of Batavia, NY and Tyrome Taylor of Buffalo, NY. Two step daughters Pam Ward of Charlotte, NC and Tanya Taylor of Rochester, NY, one stepson Evan Warren of Buffalo, NY, eleven grandchildren, Catarra Howard, James Conner Jr., Lanasia O’Neal, Jahlil Taylor, Kaiya Taylor, Santyonna Hinkley, Sean Hinkley, Sonya Hinkley, Sylas Hinkley, Savion Hinkley and Lucas Hinkley, one great grandson Maison Howard and a host of cousins and friends.

Catherine (Cathy) Lynne Davies, 63, of Norfolk, Va., went to be with the Lord on August 6, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Cathy had a strong faith and read her Bible daily. She was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was an animal lover. She was especially devoted to her cat, Xena. She loved her family dearly.

She was predeceased by her father, Gary Heye. Survivors include her stepfather and mother, Delbert and Margaret Walck, sisters Joanne Heye, Annette (Roger) Allis, Marcia Walck, Lisa (Doug) Rein, Susan (Keith) Owen, and her brother, Ken Heye. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as dear friends, Anita and Tom Nobles.

MEDINA/MIDDLEPORT – Rosemary M. Gilbert, 91, passed away August 8, 2021 at the Martin Linsin Hospice Residence in Albion. She was born July 2, 1930 in Walworth NY, the daughter of the late Barton and Bertha Mallaber. Rosemary was a resident of Middleport most her life and was a Computer Programmer Analyst at FMC in Middleport for several years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medina. Rosemary will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Clare C. Gilbert December 6, 2015.

Rosemary is survived by her son, Dennis (Florence) Gilbert of N. Tonawanda, daughter, Karen ((Glen) Gilbert Fortner of Pensacola, Fl., grandchildren, Brendon James Gilbert Esq., Todd Aaron Robertson, Eric John (Lindsey) Robertson; great-grandchildren, Justin, Stella, Jane, Ben and Emma; step-children, Michael D’Auria, Harold Berquist and Jacquelline (Will) Worden; sisters, Barbara Allen of Middleport, and Betty Miller of AL., several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Bates, Wallace and Heath Funeral Home 38 State St. Middleport on Saturday August 14, from 1:00-2:30, followed by her funeral service at 2:30. Interment will be in Hartland Central Cemetery.

Ann M. Archer, 79, of Medina, NY, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 9, 2021, at Elderwood of Lakeside at Brockport with her son at her side. Born on April 4, 1942, in Medina, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Bernice (Cielewich) Mott.

Ann grew up in Medina and attended SUNY at Brockport where she received a Degree in Education. On August 22, 1964, Ann married Paul B. Archer and together raised a son, William.  Ann taught fourth grade for 34 years at Lyndonville Central School until her retirement in 1999.  Ann was a member of Holy Trinity Church and a volunteer at the Cobblestone Society Museum.

Ann is survived by her son William (Marsha Ducey) Archer of Brockport, NY, granddaughter Audrey, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ann is predeceased by her loving husband, Paul.

There will be no prior calling hours.  Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Holy Trinity Parish, on Eagle Street, Medina, celebrated by Rev. Bernard Nowak.  Burial will be private for the family.

HOLLEY – Susan L. “Susie” Pratt, 86, passed away August 7, 2021 at Elderwood at Brockport. She was born May 30, 1935 in Albion to the late Ernest and Amelia (DePhillip) Lauretani.

Susie enjoyed cooking for her family and friends whenever she could.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harold “Sonny” Pratt in 2013.

Susie is survived by her daughters, Deborah P. (Eugene) Wood of Brockport, Judith P. (Craig Discher) Chilson of Perry, Barbara (Derek) Hinman of Kendall; grandchildren, Zachary Wood, Katelyn (Leonard) Chilson-Foose, Joseph (Stacey) Morlino, Alissa (Cesar) Chilson-Mendoza, and Suzanne (Tim) Chilson-Adams; great-grandchildren, Natalie Foose, Evelena Adams, Mila Adams and Eian Morlino; and several nieces, nephews and special friends

There are no prior calling hours. Susie’s graveside service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, S. Holley Rd. Holley, on Thursday, August 12, at 11 a.m.
