Cole W. Hardenbrook, age 84, died Aug. 8, 2021 in St. John’s Home following a long illness. He was born June 18, 1937 in Brockport to William and Marion (Newman) Hardenbrook and had lived in this area his entire life.

Cole was a former employee of T.J. Lipton Co., and ran the family farm for many years. He started and ran Hardenbrook Insurance Company for many years and for 26 years, was Chairman of the Board of the United Frontier Mutual Insurance Company. Cole was also a member of the Kendall Fire Department, Concordia Lutheran Church, and a Charter Member of the Kendall Lions Club. He loved playing golf and was a very social person who loved a good party!

Mr. Hardenbrook was predeceased by his wife Patricia and sisters: Jane Wainwright and Ann Kleinbach. He is survived by his son: William (Dorrie) Hardenbrook of Kendall, his daughter: Jan Marie Spates of FL, 4 grandchildren: Cole (Colleen), Jason (Elicia) and Bryan (Brianna) Hardenbrook and Luke (Kayla) Spates, and 8 great grandchildren.

HOLLEY – June Roeck, 89, passed away at her home August 7, 2021 with her loving family at her side. She was born June 22, 1932 in Savanah GA., the daughter of the late Claude and Blanche (Cox) Pittman.

June was united in marriage to Frederick on November 8, 1952 in Savanah Georgia and would enjoy 68 wonderful years of marriage. She had lived in Holley since 1971 and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Holley. June was an avid quilter, gardener and crafter having displayed several items at the Genesee Country Museum.

June is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Fred; children, Fred (Lisa) Roeck Jr. of MT., Lori Herbert of AZ., and Rob (Mel) Roeck of AZ.; grandchildren, Taylor Roeck, Evan and Troy Herbert and Finn Roeck; sister-in-law, Barbara Campbell and several nieces and nephews.

Andrea Szozda Dunn, 39, of Greece passed away Wed., July 28, 2021.

Judy A. Snyder, 73, of Kent passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2021. She was born Dec. 23, 1947 in Albion to the late Martin and Dorothy (Parker) VanWycke.

Judy loved collecting angels, cardinals and watching her granddaughter play soccer and dance.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 2009; brother and sister-in-law, George and Patricia Snyder.

Judy is survived by her daughters: Darlene Snyder, Charlene (Lee) Cole; granddaughter, Kayla Cole; brother, Martin (Dolores) VanWycke III; brother-in-law, Earl Snyder; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a celebration of Judy’s life held in the summer of 2022.

Viola (Manella) “Smith” Jozwiak, 97, of Albion, NY, passed away early Monday morning, May 18, 2020, after a short battle with the COVID-19 virus. Vi was born Nov. 7, 1922 to Gabe and Kate (Licursi) Manella in Albion, NY, and lived here all of her life.

Adeline Klafehn, 91, of Kendall passed away Jan. 19, 2020. Adeline was born Sept. 26, 1928 in Rochester, NY, the daughter of Teofil and Yadwiga Bilinski, moving to Kendall with her parents as a young child. 

A graduate of Kendall Central School, Adeline for many years helped organize her Class of 1946 reunions. Adeline was a 32-year employee of the US Postal Service, serving 20 years as a Clerk at the Kendall Post Office and 12 years as Postmaster of the Morton Post Office. During her tenure, the Morton Post Office became the “communications center” of that little hamlet.

Adeline was a long-time member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where she was known as “The Flower Lady”, seeing to the Sunday, Christmas and Easter floral arrangements. She also served as secretary of the Memorial Fund and member of the Worship & Music Committee and the Church Council.

In her spare time, Adeline tended her many beautiful flower beds, enjoyed baking and doing crafts, sewed “quillows” for her children and grandchildren, and cooked many memorable holiday dinners and desserts for her growing family. She was also a member of a card club that regularly met for 60 years and was featured in the book “Legendary Locals of Orleans County.”

Adeline is survived by her son, Rod (Patty), of Laurens, NY; daughter, Susan (Donn) Pritchard; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Luther “Joe” Klafehn, in 2016.

Family and friends are invited to attend Adeline’s Memorial Service at Concordia Lutheran Church, 1769 Kendall Rd., Kendall on Sat., Aug. 14, 2021 at 11 a.m.

James “Jim” McCarthy, 74, of Albion/Barre beloved husband and father, died unexpectedly June 18, 2021. 

Predeceased by his parents Joseph J. and Mary A. McCarthy, and brother Joseph P., he is survived by Cheryl, his wife of over 52 years, and his children Laura, Heather (Doug Morgan), and Erin (Sonia DeCastro). 

He worked for 20 years at Eddy Printing/Remley and Co., before becoming self-employed as a property manager. He was best known for his great sense of humor, his willingness to help others, and his dedication to his family. 

Thank you to everyone who returned the waves and/or beeped their horns as he walked around town. It truly made his day. 

A private ceremony was held graveside at Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Janet D. (Doyle) Wooldridge, 86, of Albion passed away on Aug. 1, 2021. She was born Jan. 16, 1935 in Medina to the late Ivan and Pauline (Lewis) Barry. 

Janet was a people person and worked as a Nurse’s Aide for many years at the Orleans County Nursing Home. She was a caring and loving woman who loved spending time with her family. Often times you would see Janet going for a walk around Albion. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Earl, and several other family members. 

Janet is survived by her 2nd husband, James Wooldridge; children: Jim (Patty) Doyle, John (Stephanie) Doyle; step-children: Darlene (Ed) Cooper, Donna (Mike) Dilcher, James Wooldridge; grandchildren: Lindsey (Jeff) Rybicki, Serena, Brandon, Jillian, Shane, Kayla, Ben (Amanda) Cooper, Shane (Emily) Cooper, Bethany (Brandon) Ricci, Breianna Fatta, Courtney (Derek) Kleinbach, James Wooldridge; several great-grandchildren; sister, Kathy Gabby; brother, Ronnie (Mary) Barry; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

MEDINA – Frank S. Ranallo, Jr., 50, of Medina entered into rest on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Unity Hospital in Rochester with his family by his side. Born October 8, 1970, he was the son of Frank S. and Patricia (Stupnick) Ranallo, Sr.

Frank enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son and father and was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins. A lover of music, he especially liked listening to the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Johnny Cash. Frank had a good sense of humor and will be remembered for his loving heart.

Frank is survived by his parents; his son, Frank Ranallo III of Medina; fiancé, Kellie Staschak; sisters, Sandra (Barb Duckworth) Ranallo of Rochester, Pamela (Jim Cunningham) Ranallo of Boulder, Colorado and Christine (Mike Cassidy) Ranallo of Kent; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Family and friends will gather for a graveside committal service that will be held on Thursday, Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. at Millville Cemetery. Kyle R. “Big Bear” Moore, 28, of Albion passed away on July 27, 2021 at his home.  He was born July 30, 1992 in Albion, a son of Robert Moore and Corena “Dedo” (Mark) Brannan and had lived in this area all of his life.

Kyle graduated from Albion High School in 2010 where he played football, baseball, wrestling and basketball.  He was an avid sports fan and loved playing softball and hockey with his uncles and loved riding motorcycles with family.  Kyle worked at Lake Ontario Fruit for many years.  He was such a kid at heart and had the ability to make everyone laugh.  He lit up every room he walked into, with his smile and positivity. He was an awesome, loving uncle to his niece and nephew.  He was very close to his siblings and was the greatest brother anyone could ever ask for.  Spending time with them meant everything.  He and his brother were known for their one-liners and quotes from different movies.  Anyone who was lucky enough to receive one, knows how much his Bear Hugs will be truly missed.

He was predeceased by his cousin, Chadd Froman; maternal grandfather, Fred Froman; paternal grandparents, Alma and Kelly Moore.  In addition to his parents, Kyle is survived by sister, Kaci (Josiah Sugar) Moore; brother, Kole (Paige Williams) Moore; girlfriend, Talina Puga; nephew, Jayce Torres; niece, Aubree Dunn; maternal grandmother, Bernice Froman; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Wilbur Carl Shafer, 87, of Waterport died July 27, 2021 in United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.  He was born Jan. 19, 1934 in Niagara Falls to John Carl and Florene (Hatt) Shafer and had lived in this area since 1958.  

Wilbur was a member of the Calico Sam, the Fingerlakers, and Empire Happy Wanderers Camping groups.  He was also a member of the Middleport United Methodist Church and was an honorary Exempt Member of the Middleport Fire Company.  

Mr. Shafer was predeceased by his parents; first wife, Alice (Lembke) Shafer; son, Mason Shafer; and sister, Jane Mosher. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Urtel) Shafer whom he married Dec. 27, 2002; son, Eric (Tina) Shafer; daughter, Jody (Robert Jr.,) Peters; brother, Robert (H. Anita) Shafer Sr.; step-children: Douglas (Desiree`) Tryloff of Ohio, Deborah (Rudolf) Brunath of Fla., Donna (Mark) Vandenbosch of Fla., Daniel Tryloff of Gasport; grandchildren: Jamie Codjovi, Stacie (Charles) Jowdy, John (Jocelyn) Shafer, Lydia (Matthew) Friend, Maria (Adam) Ohol, Zachary (Shatel) Peters, Brooke Peters; step-grandchildren: Alida Keith, Jared (Tricia) Tryloff, Nathan Huntington, Hanna and Hunter Tryloff; great-grandchildren: Jelani, Brielle, Caleb, Alice, Carter, Louisa, Brody, April, Lillian, Dakoda, and Lillyjean; as well as several nieces and nephews.

James M. Brazzell, 46, of Barker, NY, passed away on Thu., June 24, 2021 at his home.

He was employed as an Asbestos Remover for Mark Cerrone Inc. of Niagara Falls. Besides being a dedicated father, James was an avid hunter and renowned sporting clay shooter. At one time was ranked #14 in New York.  James was an active member of the Medina Conservation Club.

James is survived by his life companion, Lindsay Bull; daughter, Lexi Brazzell, whom he enjoyed playing Fortnight with, both of Barker; brother, William D. (Justina) Brazzell; niece, Kati (James) Foley; nephews: Austin and Zach Brazzell, all of Medina; great-nephews: Jacob and Jaxon Foley; and great-niece, Paisleigh. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins and many dear friends of the Bull family.

Loretta A. Vick, 50, of Albion, NY, went to be with the Lord on Wed., July 28, 2021 at her home with her loving family at her side.

Born on Sept. 19, 1970 in Rochester, NY, she was the daughter of Beverly (Stanton) and the late Barry Paul.

Loretta graduated from Albion High School in 1989, where she received her Beautician License through the BOCES Cosmetology Program. On May of 1992, she married the love of her life, Larry Vick. She worked for various local salons and lastly was employed with Celebrity Day Spa, Medina. She was a member of the Oak Orchard Assembly of God Church. In her spare time, Loretta enjoyed horses, tending to her flower garden and watching both her sons race cars. Most of all, she was a devoted grandmother to her four grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them.

Loretta is survived by her mother, Beverly (Ron) Turner; husband of 29 years, Larry Vick; sons: Larry (Chelsey) Vick Jr., Jacob Vick, all of Albion, NY; grandchildren: Abigail, Anna, Larry Vick III, Jenna Vick and one on the way. Also surviving are siblings: Wendy (John) Lewis of TX, Phillip Paul; sister-in-law, Dawn Vick; brother-in-law, Ed (Katie) Vick, all of Albion; inlaws, Ed (Dorothy) Vic of Ariz.; several aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews. Crystal E. “Jerry” McGuire, 28, of Albion, entered into rest on Tue., July 27, 2021 after a year-long battle with cancer.

Born Oct. 27, 1992 in Brockport, Crystal was a daughter of Kim M. Crawford (Alan Davis) and John (Janice) McGuire, Jr.

Crystal was known for her quick wit and ability to make people laugh, even in the darkest moments. Her smile was infectious and lit up the room. Crystal had a passion for the outdoors and loved sitting around the fire at a campsite with family and friends.

She is survived by her loyal and best friend of 12 years, her baby, K9 companion, Mya.

Survivors also include her parents; six siblings: Chelsea (George) Carter, Cassandra McGuire, Coty (Athena) Kimmel, Brandon (Shelby) McGuire and John McGuire III; nieces and nephews: Teagan, Dominic, Carli, Cryssandra, Sierra, Raenee, George IV, Jeremy Jr. and Arya; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and best friend, Amanda Sanderson.

Edith P. Young, 84, of Medina, NY entered into rest unexpectedly on Mon., July 26, 2021.

Born Jan. 23,1937, in West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Ellis Roy and Martha J. (Parker) Murphy. Edie married Harry E. Young on May 1, 1954 and moved to Medina, NY where together they built their home and raised a family of three children. Her most cherished role was that of mother and grandmother, dedicating her life to her family and being a homemaker.

Over the years she worked at Thomas J. Lipton Co. and Lyndonville canning factory.  Edie was a longtime parishioner of the East Shelby Community Bible Church. She had been active through the YMCA silver sneakers program. Edie enjoyed her home and gardening and was a great cook. She often hosted large family gatherings and welcomed out-of-town family visits. In later years she enjoyed feeding her birds, taking care of her dog, Elvis and socializing with her special homecare helpers. She was a kind, gentle and caring woman that saw the good in everyone and believed all people deserved second chances.

Edie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry in 1990; and siblings: Murrel Murphy, Burrel Murphy, Roy E. Murphy, Opal Neal, Louvera Holdren and Thelma Neal.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Durwin (Melinda) Young, Vickie (Michael) Restivo and Aaron (Jennifer) Young; beloved grandmother of: Stacey (Andrew) Gardner, Christine Stevens, Brigitte Lee, Chasen Lee and Lyndsay Young; five great-grandchildren; dear sister, Juanita (Terry) Allman; beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Alesia M. Bosko, 58, of Kent, NY passed away peacefully, in her home, the morning of July 26, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. 

 Alesia was born April 5, 1963 in Dunkirk, NY daughter of Katherine (Apthorp) Rosado and the late Robert T. Gregory. Alesia was a graduate of Brocton Central School, class of 1981, and Jamestown Community College with her degree in business. After college, Alesia went on to follow her passion with non-profit work, most recently with Villa of Hope in Rochester, NY as a Stewardship Manager.  Alesia will be remembered as the confidant of many, as she was always there to help someone in need, listen, provide advice, direction, and most importantly her love.  Alesia’s most prideful accomplishment and joy was the birth of her two children, Alexander and Annaliese, and her marriage to her husband, Alan.

 Alesia is survived by her loving husband, Alan, of 30 years; adoring children: Alexander (Heidi) Bosko and Annaliese Bosko; loving mother, Katherine (Luis) Rosado; and two cherished brothers: Robert (Jacqueline) Gregory and Timothy Gregory. Alesia is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

William D. Horton, 89, of Medina, passed away on July 14, 2021. He was born on June 18, 1932, a son of the late Adelaide (Morris) Sabourin and Lloyd Horton. Born and raised in Niagara Falls, NY, William went on to serve our country in the U.S. Navy from 1949-1953 and was stationed in Quantico, Va. He worked as a dental technician while in the service. He met and married the former Carole Burkett and together they raised a family of three children. They lived in Connecticut for many years, where William had a career with the Kimberly-Clark Corp. Upon retirement, he and his wife returned to the western New York area.

William is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carole Horton; children: Lyn (Bruce) Galley of Sanborn, NY, Marlene (Gary) Hill of Medina, NY and James (Laurie) Horton of Torrington, Conn.; grandchildren: Randall Galley, David and Daniel Hill and David, Michelle and Sherianne Horton; seven great-grandchildren, who all will miss him dearly; and two nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Horton of Lockport, NY.
