Improving to 8-3, Roy-Hart blanked Newfane 14-0 in a Niagara-Orleans League softball game this afternoon.

Abby Fox hurled the shutout registering 10 strikeouts. She also drove in 5 runs.

A big 6 run fourth inning broke the game open as Brooke Corser had a three-run single, Fox a two-run single, and Grace Pearl an RBI triple. Hayley Hillburn and Peyton May both added singles to the uprising.

Pembroke 6, Kendall 3
Pembroke bested Kendall 6-3 in a Genesee Region League game as Adalyn Ball had a pair of doubles and Diem Laney one.

Izzy D’Agostino had a triple and Alea Barrett a double for Kendall.

Notre Dame 14, Holley 2
Amelia Sorochty hurled a 2 hitter with 9 strikeouts for Notre Dame in the 14-2 G-R win over Holley.

Riley Hare, Olivia Gillard and Olivia Bezon each had 2 hits for Notre Dame. Hare and Gillard both had doubles.

Building up a commanding 14-0 half-time advantage, Akron went on to down visiting Medina 16-1 in a make-up D Division lacrosse game this afternoon.

The Tigers improve to 8-1 in the division and 12-2 overall.

Jobi Wheeler scored the Medina goal off an assist from Gavin Dahlhaus.

For the second day in a row bogey problems proved troublesome as Medina’s Melanie Green has failed to make the cut at the LPGA Tour’s Kroger Queen City Championship being played in Cincinnati.

Green, who opened the tournament with a 3 over par round of 73 on Thursday, had a 1 over par round of 71 today for a 4 over par total of 144 which was two shots over the cutline of 2 over par.

Starting on the front 9, Green jumped to 5 over early after bogies on 4 and 6.

She rebounded strongly though with an eagle on 7 and a birdie on 8 to go back to 2 over and stay in the hunt to play on the weekend.

However, bogies on 10 and 17, which put her back to 4 over par, dashed those comeback hopes.

It was just the second time in 8 LPGA starts on this her rookie season on the tour that she has not made the cut.

Green’s next start will be at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in New Jersey, May 29-31.

Roy-Hart split with visiting Akron this afternoon to close out the dual meet portion of the Niagara-Orleans League track season.

Roy-Hart won the boys’ meet 85-57 as Tysen McCaa doubled in the Long Jump and Triple Jump and Chris McOmber in the 110 Hurdles and 400 Hurdles.

Akron won the girls’ meet 101-39 to complete a perfect 6-0 championship season.

No individual event double winners were reported from the girls’ meet.

Avenging an earlier season home field loss, Albion downed rival Medina 18-7 at Vets Park this afternoon to close out the Niagara-Orleans League softball season.

A huge 8 run seventh inning scoring burst capped off the win for Albion as Elizabeth Colmenero had a home run and Melia Prince a double.

Medina had tied the game at 5-5 by scoring 5 times in the bottom of the fourth inning as Alexa Demmer and Isabella Perez both had doubles.

However, Albion regained the lead for good by scoring 3 times in the fifth as Kaitlin Bennett and Aaliyah Jones both had hits.

The Purple Eagles also scored 3 quick runs in the first inning on singles by Bennett, winning pitcher Aubrielle Barry, Lux Froman, Colmenero and a double by Prince.

Bennett, Prince, and Colmenero each finished with 3 hits as Barry and Froman both had 2. Barry had a total of 5 RBIs and Colmenero and Froman 3 each.

Barry also registered 8 strikeouts in the circle.

Demmer and Jenna Cecchini both had a pair of hits for Medina and Karlee Cau a double.

Albion finishes the N-O season at 4-8 and Medina 1-11.

Scoring in six of the seven innings, Kendall downed rival Holley 15-4 in a Genesee Region League softball game at Holley this afternoon.

Trailing 2-1, Kendall moved on top to stay by scoring 4 runs in the third inning on a two-run single by Brooke Rodas and a two-run error.

Kendall, which improves to 12-6, capped off the win with a big 5 run seventh inning which featured RBI singles by Izzy D’Agostino and Ella Cole and a two-run homer by Teagan Shaw.

D’Agostino finished with 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, as Alea Barrett also had 2 doubles and Cole 2 hits.

Desiree McCormack had 2 hits, including a double, and Lily Newman a two-run single for Holley.

Gabby Hauptman earned the win in the circle for Kendall scattering 5 hits and striking out 5.

It was a bumpy roller-coaster ride for Medina’s Melanie Green today at the opening round of the LPGA Tour’s Kroger Queen City Championship being played at Cincinnati.

Hampered by a double bogey and a triple bogey, Green finished the day with a 3 over par round of 73.

Starting on the back 9, Green slipped to 3 over after a double bogey on 16 and a bogey on 17.

Battling back, she put together a strong string of four straight birdies on 18, 1, 2 and 3 to rally back to 1 under.

However, the round finished as tough as it started as a bogey on 5 put her back to even and then a disastrous triple bogey on 8 ballooned her back to 3 over for the day.

The tournament will continue on Friday after which the field will be cut. The final two rounds are slated for Saturday and Sunday.

Wilson evened its D Division lacrosse record at 5-5 (7-5 overall) by posting a 19-5 win over visiting Medina Wednesday evening.

Gavin Dahlhaus had 4 goals and an assist and Jobi Wheeler a goal for Medina which is now 2-7 in the division and 2-11 overall.

Medina will next visit Akron in a make-up game at 5 p.m. Friday and then travel to Bloomfield for a non league contest at noon on Saturday.

Locking up outright possession of a third straight Niagara-Orleans League baseball championship, Medina blanked Newfane 6-0 at Vets Park this evening.

The victory improves Medina’s N-O record to 11-0 heading into Saturday’s league finale at Albion at 11 a.m. Overall the Mustangs are 14-1 overall.

Vinny Gray hurled a 1 hitter for Medina.

The N-O title is the sixth in the last seven seasons for the Mustangs.

Aidan Papaj led the Mustangs at the plate with 4 hits.

The Mustangs scored the only run they needed as it turned out in the first inning as Papaj singled and came home on an error.

Medina made it 2-0 in the third inning as Preston Woodworth doubled and came home on a sacrifice fly by Hadrian Batista.

The Mustangs pulled away in the fourth inning by scoring twice on an RBI sacrifice fly by Gray and an error. A single by Carlos Doval set up he opportunity.

Medina capped off the win by scoring twice in the sixth inning as Kolton Fletcher singled and scored on an error and Ryan Pegelow tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Gray.

Carson Schwab singled, stole second and third and came home on an error for the winning run.

Barker also got a sparking pitching performance from JJ Prynn who went the distance on the mound allowing only 1 hit and striking out 17.

Elba sweeps Lyndonville
An eight run scoring burst in the first inning of the opening game set the tone as Elba went on to sweep a Genesee Region League doubleheader from host Lyndonville by scores of 22-4 and 12-4.
