N-O All League Tourney mat champions

Contributed Photo – Five teams had individual weight class champions crowned at the annual Niagara-Orleans All League Wrestling Tournament held on Saturday at Albion The league champions include, in front, are Luke Fay (Roy-Hart/Barker), Luke Duffina (Medina), Rian Czaja (Newfane), Reece Senske (Medina), Drake Schomski (Albion) and Stryker Sanders (Albion). In back are Hamza Merrick (Wilson), Richard Doxey (Newfane), Brody Fry (Medina), Ronan Klug (Roy-Hart/Barker), Jacob Stephenson (Wilson), Ayden Buttery (Newfane) and Aidan Gillings (Newfane). Newfane, which went 5-0 during the dual match portion of the N-O season, won the All League Tournament team title. It marks the 11th straight year that Newfane has captured the N-O title.

Lancaster tops RBM hockey team

Traveling to Buffalo State, the Roy-Hart/Barker/Medina Club hockey team faced Lancaster Saturday evening and came away on the short end of a 7-3 score..

Things started well for RBM  as Cameron Bryer (Wilson) scored unassisted in the first two minutes of the game.

Lancaster, however, would score six straight goals over the next two periods, three of them power play scores.

In the third period, Max Pilon (Medina) scored from Connor Woodward (Wilson) and Bryer got another unassisted goal late in the game.

RBM, which is now 5-6 on the season, will complete the home and home series with Lancaster this Wednesday at the Cornerstone Arena beginning at 7 p.m.

Boosters honor Kendall’s title soccer team

Contributed Photos – The Kendall boys varsity soccer team had a very memorable season this past fall. Going 18-2-1, the Eagles won  the Genesee Region League title, the Section V Class C2 championship and the overall Section V Class C title to gain a berth in the Far West Regional. The Kendall Sports Boosters have honored those achievements by presenting team members with commemorative jackets.

The jackets have patches honoring both the Section V Class C2 title victory and the team’s advancing to the Far West Regional of the state playoffs.

Three Medina and two Albion wrestlers claim N-O All-League Tourney championships

Three Medina and two Albion wrestlers earned championships at the annual Niagara-Orleans All League Tournament held today at Albion.

Medina’s trio of repeat N-O champions included Reece Senske (116), Luke Duffina (131) and Brody Fry (190)

Stryker Sanders (101) and Drake Schomski (108) claimed championships for Albion.

Roy-Hart/Barker likewise had a pair of champions in Luke Fay (138) and Ronan Klug (170) as did Wilson in defending champion Jacob Stephenson (160) and Hamza Merrick (285).

Newfane led the way to the victory podium with four winners including defending champions Aidan Gillings (145) and Ayden Buttery (152) along with Rian Czaja (124) and Richard Doxey (215).

Senske pinned Robert Bauer (Wilson) in 47 seconds in his title bout after scoring a pin of 1:10 in the semifinals.

Duffina scored a 13-2 major decision win over Joey Jopp (Roy-Hart/Barker) in the finals after earning a pin of 3:01 in the semis.

Fry pinned Henry Wortkoetter (Wilson) in 1:08 in his title bout. He advanced with pins of 25 seconds in the quarterfinals and 3:27 in the semis.

Stryker pinned his Albion teammate Justin Mengs in 39 seconds in the finals after posting a technical fall win in the semis.

Schomske pinned Angelo Cusatis (Wilson) in 1:18 in his title bout. He also scored pins in both the quarter and semifinals.

Fay pinned Cameron Wild (Akron) in 37 seconds in the finals and Klug pinned Chris Almonte (Albion) in 3:11 in his title bout.

In Wilson’s title wins Stephenson won by disqualification over Will Vandenbosch (Akron) and Merrick pinned his Lakemen teammate Michael Jeffords in 3:00.

In Newfane’s championship bouts Czaja pinned Alex Brandl (Akron) in 2:24, Gillings had a 17-6 major decision win over Victor Cusatis (Wilson), Buttery pinned Jake Smith (Akron) in 1:12 and Doxey pinned Dominick Lopez (Wilson) in 2:41.

Gillings earned the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler award.

Medina’s Austin Seefeldt (152) placed third as did the Roy-Hart/Barker trio of Rowan Murray (108), Remington Marohn (124) and RJ Townsend (285).

Newfane, which finished first during the dual match portion of the N-O season at 5-0, captured the All-League Tournament title with 176.5 points. Wilson was second with 165.5 points followed by Akron 132, Roy-Hart/Barker 125.5, Albion 102 and Medina 81.5.

Holley boys edge past Elba

Holley edged Elba 64-62 in a Genesee Region League boys basketball game this evening.

Vinny Golisano scored 21, Destin Kuyal 15 and Josh Silpoch 12 to lead the Hawks.

In other G-R action, Wheatland-Chili downed Kendall 47-38 and Pembroke topped Lyndonville 69-17.

Vinnie D’Agostino scored 14 and William Kludt 11 for Kendall.

Owen Shultz scored 17 and Jayden Bridge 11 to lead Pembroke while Colton Smith had 7 for Lyndonville.

Alivia Wolf scored 15 and Zoey Wolf 11 to lead Holley.

Wilson girls down Medina; Roy-Hart wins

Wilson downed Medina 52-39 and Roy-Hart bested Barker 61-19 in Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball action this evening.

Addy Elia scored 14 and Emily Phillips 11 for Wilson which improves to 4-2 at the halfway point of the N-O season.

Alexa Demmer took game high honors with 18 for Medina as Ariel Smith and Tatianna Maxon both had 9 and Honesty Hill 7.

Leading by a narrow 10-8 margin at the end of the first quarter, Wilson extended its advantage to 23-13 at the half and to 46-23 at the three-quarter mark.

Roy-Hart improved to 4-2 in N-O action as Adella Dukes scored 18, Courtney Aquilina 14, Millie Owens 8 and Kaitlin Mettler, Kylie McOmber and Peyton May 6.

Elise Monaco led Barker with 8.

Purple Eagles hand Tigers first loss; Lakemen nip Mustangs in OT; Bulldogs edge Rams

The Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball title race really tightened up this evening as Albion knocked front-running Akron from the ranks of the unbeaten by a narrow 51-47 score at Albion and Wilson nipped visiting Medina 48-46 in overtime.

Those results leave Akron at 6-1 and holding a slim half game edge over 5-1 Wilson as Medina is 4-2 and Albion 4-3.

Aidan Neumann hit what proved to be the game winning shot in overtime with a three which put Wilson up 47-46.

Neumann finished with 18 and Shamus George 17 to lead the Lakemen.

Trailing by 10, 37-27, at the end of the third period, Medina sent the game into overtime deadlocked at 39-39 after outscoring Wilson 12-2 in the fourth quarter. Preston Woodworth and Avion Johnson both hit threes and Jerrell Nealy had a pair of baskets to lead that Mustangs rally.

Nealy finished with a game high 20, Woodworth 8 and Johnson 6.

Albion 51, Akron 47
Kyle Radder scored 15, Wesley Olles 14, Tyler Cody 10 and Isaiah Riley 8 to lead the balanced attack for Albion in the key 51-47 victory over previously unbeaten Akron.

Derren Brooks scored a game high 24 to lead Akron.

Leading by a narrow 22-21 margin at the half, Albion extended its lead to 10, 42-32, at the three-quarter mark as Radder scored 8 and Cody 7 in the third period.

The Purple Eagles then held off a fourth quarter Tigers comeback bid.

Free throws by Riley, Rader and Olles in the final minute helped Albion lock up the win as Akron could get no closer than three down the stretch.

Barker 61, Roy-Hart 60
Owen Harris scored 18, Donovan Hefferon 14 and Logan Murrell 13 to lead Barker to a narrow 61-60 win over Roy-Hart. Two late free throws by Hefferon helped the Bulldogs lock up the win.

Dan Aquilina scored a game high 30 for Roy-Hart. Braden Ricker added 8 and Erique Powell 7 for the Rams.

Barker is now 2-4 and Roy-Hart 1-5 in N-O action.

Bees top Tigers to lock up G-R mat title

Putting a lock on the Genesee Region League wrestling title, Byron-Bergen downed host Lyndonville 40-23 this evening.

Pins by Brendin Galves (145), Roman Smith (152), Jeremiah Romero (190) and Bradley Tatar (285) along with technical fall wins by Parker Moore (138) and Solomon Smith (160) keyed the victory for the Bees.

Justin Holmes (124) had a double overtime major decision win for Lyndonville which also got a major decision win by Iziah Rodriquez (108) and decision wins by Ty Holmes (131), Ben Doolan (170) and Abby Alexander (101)

The Tigers finish the G-R season at 1-2.

Newfane completed the dual match portion of the Niagara-Orleans League season by defeating Akron 58-10 on Wednesday and Roy-Hart/Barker 49-17 this evening.

The league season will conclude with the annual All-League tournament at Albion on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.

Lyndonville’s Justin Holmes in route to earning a double overtime major decision win over Byron-Bergen’s Blake Liles in the 124 lb. bout.

Pembroke girls post win over Lyndonville; Kendall wins; Holley bows

Breaking away from a half-time tie, Pembroke used a big third quarter scoring edge to key a 46-28 win over host Lyndonville in a Genesee Region League girls basketball game this evening.

Deadlocked at 17-17 at the half, Pembroke used a 16-5 third period scoring edge to open up a 33-22 advantage. Morgan Coniber scored seven, including a three, to key that uprising.

Jayden Hootman took game high scoring honors with 15 for Pembroke as Coniber had 8, Seneca Calderon 7 and Peyton Liss 6.

Addison Dillenbeck scored 14 and Isabella Groves 8 to lead Lyndonville.

Kendall 48, Wheatland-Chili 38
Kendall evened its G-R record at 4-4 with a 48-38 win over Wheatland-Chili.

Ava LaMay led the Lady Eagles with 12 as Addison Kludt and Brooke Rodas both had 8, Izzy D’Agostino 7, Lia Larson 6, Alea Barrett 5 and Stella Kwiatek 2.

Elba 82, Holley 42
Zoey Wolf had 19 points, including 6 threes, 7 rebounds and 3 steals and Alivia Wolf 14 points, 4 steals and 4 rebounds for Holley in the G-R loss to Elba.

Roy-Hart/Barker swimmers sweep Akron

Roy-Hart/Barker scored a sweep over visiting Akron this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League swim meet.

The Channel Cats won the boys’ meet 105-43 and the girls’ competition 87-78.

Garrett Glyshaw doubled in the 200 Free and 500 Free and Hank Trombley in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Backstroke for the Roy-Hart/Barker boys squad. Kordell Demaison also took the 100 Butterfly and Jackson Brauen the 100 Breaststroke.

Elden Ground won both the 50 Free and 100 Free for Akron.

The Roy-Hart/Barker boys squad is now 5-1 and Akron 1-6.

Ava Achtyl won the 100 Backstroke, Jillian Ossont the 100 Free, Shelby Dauphinee the 100 Butterfly and Sam Fox the 200 Individual Medley for the Roy-Hart/Barker girls.

Audrey Garverick doubled in the 200 Free and 500 Free and Madigan Regan in the 50 Free and 100 Breaststroke for the Akron girls.

Roy-Hart/Barker is now 6-0 and Akron 4-3.

Newfane sweeps Albion
Newfane bested visiting Albion winning the boys’ meet 97-64 and the girls’ 111-53.

Noah Kneeland doubled in the IM and 500 Free for the Newfane boys as Dylan Lamont took the Backstroke and Dmitri Young the Butterfly.

Matthew Kania won both the 200 Free and Breaststroke and Justin Kania the 50 Free and 100 Free for Albion.

Newfane is now 6-0 and Albion 2-5.

Kimberly Schmitt won both the IM and Breaststroke and Lauren Enderton the 100 Free and Backstroke for the Newfane girls. Avery Stevenson also took the 50 Free and Eliana Reis the 500 Free.

Kiera Sidari doubled in the 200 Free and Butterfly for Albion.

Newfane is now 5-1 and Albion 1-6.
