Two first quarter touchdowns sparked Medina to a 41-0 victory over Silver Creek/Forestville in a season opening interdivisional football game this evening at Silver Creek.

Christian Moss scored on a 6 yard run and Jerrell Nealy on a 41 yard pass from quarterback Preston Woodworth and Vinny Gray tacked on a pair of extra point kicks to give the Mustangs a 14-0 first quarter lead.

The Mustangs tacked on four more touchdowns in the second half on a 10 yard run by Kolton Fletcher, a 34 yard run by Moss, a 44 yard pass from Woodworth to Nealy and a 36 yard run by Jayzon Wills. Gray added 3 more extra points during that stretch.

Woodworth clicked on 13 of 15 pass attempts for 220 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Medina next visits Alden next Friday night in the C North Division opener.

Lew-Port 33, Albion 14
Leading by a narrow 7-6 margin, Lew-Port erupted for three unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter to key a 33-14 victory over visiting Albion in an interdivisional season opener.

The Lancers led 27-6 at the half and 33-6 after three quarters.

Chastin Styer, who rushed for 100 yards, accounted for all of Albion’s points with touchdown runs in the first and fourth quarters and a two-point conversion carry after the second TD.

Kaiden Froman had 10 tackles and Logan Kast a sack for the Purple Eagles.

Newfane 34, Barker/Roy-Hart 15
Newfane built up a 26-0 half-time advantage in route to downing visiting Barker/Roy-Hart 34-13 in an interdivisional season opener.

Barker/Roy-Hart’s touchdowns came on a 99 yard fumble recovery return by Tysen McCaa and a 1 yard run by Joey Rieter.

Albion downed Barker 251-270 and Roy-Hart bested Medina 237-275 in Niagara-Orleans League golf matches this afternoon.

Owen Spencer took medalist honors with a 46 for Albion as Drew Pritchard added a 47 and Viktor Snyder a 49.

Drew LaGreca shot a 47 for Barker.

Albion is now 3-1 and Barker 2-2.

Roy-Hart stayed undefeated at 3-0 as Gavin Heideman and Evan Poeller shared medalist honors with rounds of 45 while Isaac Smith added a 47 and Blake Stahl a 48.

Cam Fike shot 46 and Tyler Draper 48 for Medina.

Medina is now 2-2.

Scoring a goal in each half, Roy-Hart edged visiting Newfane 2-1 in a Niagara-Orleans League field hockey game this afternoon.

Savannah Newton scored in the first half and Alayna Kowalski in the second half for Roy-Hart which improves to 1-1.

Gabby Ross scored in the first half for Newfane which slips to 0-2.

Barker 5, Kenmore 0

Scoring three quick goals in the first quarter, Barker went on to down visiting Kenmore 5-0 to improve to 2-0.

Madelina Pavlock scored 4 goals and Sophia Pavlock 1 for Barker.

Roy-Hart opened defense of its Niagara-Orleans League volleyball championship by downing host Albion in straight sets 25-11, 25-19, 25-9 this evening.

Grace Pearl had 7 spiking kills and 4 service aces, Lauren Snyder and Kylie McOmber 5 kills each, Peyton May 5 aces and Ryleigh Capen 20 assists for Roy-Hart.

Jillian LeBaron and Anna Grillo both had 24 digs and Alivia Dumrese 4 kills for Albion.

Pearl served up points 2-5 and 24-25 (including 3 aces), May 7-10, Snyder 12-14 and Raegan Kern 16-20 (3 aces) for Roy-Hart in the opening set.

Albion grabbed an 18-17 lead late in the second set as LeBaron served up points 13-18 with two aces.

However, Roy-Hart rallied to polish off the set as May served up points 19-21 (2 aces)and Snyder 23-25 registering an ace for the set winner.

Keeping the momentum, the Lady Rams then closed out the match by rolling to a 25-9 win in the third set.

A pair of first half goals sparked Medina to a 3-0 win over rival Albion in the Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer opener at Vets Park this evening.

Luke Duffina opened the scoring for Medina off an assist from Izzy Anderson.

Aidan Papaj doubled the Mustangs lead before halftime as Aleks Seefeldt earned the assist.

Seefeldt later rounded out the Mustangs scoring with a second half goal off an assist from Vinny Gray.

Cam Fike earned the shutout in goal for the Mustangs.

Both teams next face non league road contests on Monday with Medina at Buffalo Academy of Science and Albion at Cardinal O’Hara.

Getting the season off to a strong start, Lyndonville edged host Newfane 4-3 in a non league boys soccer game this afternoon.

Austin Fonda and Jesus Reyes each scored two goals to lead the way for the Tigers.

New Coach Casey Winiecki’s Tigers will next host Kendall at 5 p.m. Monday in the Genesee Region League opener.

The high school football season will kickoff this weekend with all four local teams opening on the road.

Friday night’s three matchups will have Albion at Lew-Port, Medina at Silver Creek/Forestville and Barker/Roy-Hart at Newfane. All three are interdivisional contests which are scheduled for 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Holley will make its return to 11 man competition after seven years of playing 8 man as the Hawks visit Cardinal O’Hara in Tonawanda at 1 p.m. The Hawks are playing an independent schedule this season.

Albion holds an 8-4 lead in the all time series with Lew-Port but the Lancers have won the last two by margins of 19-18 in 2023 and 27-16 last fall.

The Purple Eagles will begin B2 Division competition next Friday at Dunkirk.

Medina will be facing Silver Creek/Forestville, which is in Class D, for the first time. However, Medina has faced Silver Creek once before in 1980 when the Mustang downed the Black Knights 20-14 in the Section VI championship game at then Rich, now Highmark, Stadium.

The Mustangs will begin defense of their C North Division title at Alden next Friday. Last fall the Mustangs earned a one-third share of a fifth straight C North title as Medina, Alden and Newfane all finished with identical 6-1 records.

The Barker/Roy-Hart game is also an interdivisional contest as Newfane has dropped from the C North to the D Division this year.

Barker/Roy-Hart will begin C North Division competition next Friday against Akron.

A big first half scoring burst powered Kendall to an 8-0 win over visiting Newfane in a non league girls soccer game this evening.

Kendall built up a commanding 5-0 first half lead on two goals by Sophia Picardo and one each by Jersie Drake, Stella Kwiatek and Ryleigh Denning.

Denning, Picardo and Izzy D’Agostino also each scored a goal in the second half as Kendall improves to 2-1.

In another non league game Wheatland-Chili downed visiting Albion 5-0.

Boys Soccer
In a non league boys game, host Pembroke downed Roy-Hart 5-1.

Michael Fuller scored the Roy-Hart goal.

Holley rolled to a straight set 25-13, 25-10, 25-19 victory over visiting Sodus in a seaon opening non league volleyball match.

Ali VanAmeron had 14 service aces and 6 spiking kills and Desiree McCormack 4 aces and 4 kills to lead the way for the Lady Hawks.

Barker defeated Newfane 260-296 and Medina downed Wilson 266-incomplete this afternoon as both the Bulldogs and Mustangs improve to 2-1 in Niagara-Orleans League golf action.

JJ Prynn took medalist honors with a 48 for Barker as Hudson Prynn and Drew LaGreca both had rounds of 49.

Max Pilon led Medina with a 48.

Wilson’s Ben Meyers took medalist honors with a 42 and Luke Howard added a 49.
