Medina and Akron post field hockey wins

Medina downed visiting Wilson 4-2 and defending champion Akron bested Roy-Hart 9-0 in Niagara-Orleans League field hockey action this afternoon.
Maggie Lonnen, Lilah Class, Penelope Schalck and Savannah Jo Thompson took turns scoring goals for Medina which improves to 2-1.
Wilson, which is now 1-3, did take an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Clara Ferdinand.
Akron stayed unbeaten at 3-0 as Morgan Tomporowski scored 4 goals, Brooklyn Gerstung and MacKenzie Tomporowski 2 each and Madison Gates 1.
Marissa Brege earned the shutout in goal stopping 2 shots and 2 penalty corners.

Barker/Lyndonville earns first N-O soccer win

League newcomer Barker/Lyndonville earned its first Niagara-Orleans girls soccer victory by downing Medina 10-0 at Vets Park this afternoon.
Alexa Robinson scored 5 goals to lead the Barker/Lyndonville attack as Natalie Rath added 2 and Elysse Dillenbeck, Rylan Townsend and Braelynn Dillenbeck 1 each.
Barker/Lyndonville, which led 7-0 at the half, is now 1-1 in the league and 2-1 overall.
The game was the season opener for Medina.
Albion 0, Akron 0
Albion and Akron played to a scoreless tie in double overtime.
Wilson 6, Newfane 0
Wilson blanked rival Newfane 6-0 in the other N-O game.

N-O golf wins for Albion, Medina, Roy-Hart
Albion, Medina and Roy-Hart all scored Niagara-Orleans League golf victories this afternoon.
Albion improved to 5-1 by downing Akron 230-255.
Albion’s Owen Spencer and Akron’s Brodie Hill shared medalist honors with rounds of 42.
Vicktor Snyder added a 44, Drew Pritchard a 47 and Luke Bedford a 48 for Albion.
Medina bested Barker 249-262 to go to 3-2.
Cam Fike earned medalist honors with aa 42 for Medina as Tyler Draper added a 44 and Jameson Pilon a 49.
JJ Prynn shot 49 for Barker.
Roy-Hart topped Wilson 234-incomplete to go to 4-0.
Evan Poeller took medalist honors with a 42 and Gavin Heideman added a 45 to pace Roy-Hart.
Ben Meyers led Wilson with a 43.
Football returns to Lyndonville High as Tigers Modified team wins opener over Notre Dame
Football returned to Lyndonville High for the first time in 50 years on Tuesday at the Modified ‘A’ level as the Tigers blanked host Notre Dame 12-0.
Ayden Porter scored both Tiger touchdowns and rushed for a total of 148 yards.
On defense, Porter and Dom Hargrave both made 11 tackles. Hargrave and Logan Waliszewski both had interceptions and Leebourne Coke a fuble recovery.
Lyndonville last had a varsity football team in 1975.
The Tigers will next host Holley a 5 p.m. on September 17.
Lady Hawks, Lady Eagles win G-R openers

Putting together a huge first half scoring surge, Holley posted an 8-0 victory over visiting Pembroke this evening to open the Genesee Region League girls soccer season.
Holley built up a commanding 5-0 first half lead as Ava Mossier and Payton Preston each scored two goals and Carsyn Mogle one.
Emma Burne, Brynn Thomas and Kyla Burne then each scored a goal in the second half.
Mogle also had 3 assists and Jayna Burris 2.
Zoey Warner made 3 saves to earn the shutout in goal;
Kendall 1, Wheatland-Chili 0
Kendall also won its G-R opener 1-0 over host Wheatland-Chili.
Ryleigh Denning scored the Lady Eagles lone goal off an assist from Stella Kwiatek.
Brooke Rodas earned the shutout in goal as the quartet of Addison Kludt, Keara Reed, Hailey Ball and Brynn Hardenbrook anchored the defense.

Quick goal is a game winner for Lady Rams
A goal in the opening seconds proved to be just enough as Roy-Hart edged host Oakfield-Alabama 1-0 in a non league girls soccer game this evening.
Ruth Walker scored the lone goal for the Lady Rams just 17 seconds into the game off an assist from Maria Trombley.
Courtney Aquilina earned the shutout in goal.
Roy-Hart is now 1-1.
Lyndonville’s new track gets finishing touches

Medina opens N-O girls soccer season Wed.
Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Getting set to lead Medina into Wednesday’s Niagara-Orleans girls soccer home opener against new league foe Barker/Lyndonville at 4:45 p.m. at Vets Park is this group of returnees. In front are seniors Rhoswyn Oakes and Molly Cook, junior Arabella White, senior Lyla Page and junior Lillian Maynard. In back are juniors Arianna Lake and Madeline Mark, senior Saniyyaha Wilson, junior Giavanna Marquardt and sophomores Gabriella Velez and Lucia DiCureia. This is the season opener for Medina while Barker/Lyndonville is 0-1 in the league and 1-1 overall. The last couple of years the then Lyndonville/Barker team competed in the Genesee Region League. Barker has taken over as the lead school this year moving the team into the N-O League. Medina will next visit defending N-O champion Roy-Hart at 6:45 p.m. Friday. Barker/Lyndonville will host Gananda/Marion in a non league game at 4:45 p.m. Friday at Lyndonville.
Pembroke tops Holley in G-R volleyball
Pembroke bested Holley 25-7, 25-11, 25-15 in a Genesee Region League volleyball match this evening.
Onolee Easterbrook had 9 kills and 2 blocks and Taylor Bischoff 4 aces and 3 kills for Pembroke.
Desiree McCormick had 3 kills and Ali VanAmeron 2 for Holley.
In other G-R action, Notre Dame downed Kendall 25-4, 25-17, 25-13 and Lyndonville topped Wheatland-Chili in three sets.
Sarah Corser had 11 aces for Lyndonville as Emily Dill added 5 aces, Leah Kenyon 3 aces, Bella Bresett 3 aces and 2 kills, Ainsley Vann 2 kills and 1 ace and Elena Barry 1 ace.
Big second half locks up win for Hawks

Pulling away in the second half, Holley blanked visiting Pembroke 4-0 this evening in the Genesee Region League boys soccer opener.
Holley grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Cooper Wolf off an assist from Chase Kempa.
Wolf, Kempa and Camden Mosier then each took turns scoring a goal in the second half to lock up the win for the Hawks. Kempa had a total of 3 assists on the night.

Holley’s Woodlands soccer complex has seen a major renovation this season with new lights, bleachers and scoreboard.
