Medina defeated Akron 252-255 and Roy-Hart downed Albion 246-260 in Niagara-Orleans League golf matches this afternoon.

Max Pilon shot 44 and Tyler Draper 47 to lead Medina while Akron’s Brodie Hill earned medalist honors with a 42.

Evan Poeller and Isaac Smith both shot 47 and Blake Stahl 48 to lead Roy-Hart.

Owen Spencer took medalist honors with a 42 and Drew Pritchard had a 45 for Albion.

Roy-Hart is now 5-0, Albion 5-2 and Medina 4-2.

A lightning quick goal in the first minute ignited Medina to a 3-0 victory over Roy-Hart in a Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer game at Vets Park this afternoon.

Medina took the lead for good when Caden Kingsbury scored just 52 seconds into the game.

The Mustangs advantage jumped to 3-0 at the half as Aleks Seefeldt scored on a penalty kick at the 17 minute mark and Jimmy Dieter tacked on another goal in the final two minutes.

Medina is now 2-0 and Roy-Hart 0-2 in N-O action.

The Mustangs will next visit Park School on Tuesday for a non league game.

A red hot start sparked Medina’s Melanie Green to a sizzling 6 under par 66 today in the opening round of the Epson Tour’s Guardian Championship Tournament being played at Prattsville, Alabama.

Starting on the back nine, Green registered birdies on her first three holes (10, 11 and 12). She tacked on another birdie on 17 to go 4 under at the turn.

Keeping the momentum on the front nine, Green registered back-to-back birdies on 4 and 5 to go to 6 under.

When she finished her round of 66 she was in third place two shots back of the leader with part of the field still on the course.

The tournament will continue on Saturday and conclude on Sunday. The field will be cut after Saturday’s round.

Holley shutout Alexander 2-0 and Kendall blanked Notre Dame 3-0 in Genesee Region League girls soccer games this evening.

Kyla Burne and Addison Bevins each scored a goal for Holley as Jayna Burris and Ava Mosier each had an assist.

The Lady Hawks are now 2-0, 2-1 overall.

Alea Barrett scored 2 goals and Sophia Picardo 1 for Kendall. Picardo, Ryleigh Denning and Addison Kludt each had an assist.

The Lady Eagles are now 2-0 and 3-1 overall.

Rallying from a two set deficit, Lyndonville rebounded to outlast visiting Albion 19-25, 23-25, 25-10, 25-19, 15-11 in a non league volleyball match this evening.

Leah Kenyon had 6 spiking kills and 1 service ace, Hannah Fox 5 aces and 1 kill, Bella Bresett 2 kills, Sarah Corser 2 kills and 1 ace, Elena Barry 5 aces and 3 kills, Ainsley Vann 4 kills, 4 blocks and 3 aces and Emily Dill 5 kills and 2 aces for Lyndonville.

Jillian LeBaron had 10 aces, 6 kills and 59 digs for Albion.

Roy-Hart bested host Lew-Port in four sets 25-20, 25-20, 19-25, 25-11 in another non league volleyball match.

Kyle McOmber and Grace Pearl both had 10 kills for Roy-Hart as Raegan Kern had 8, Lauren Snyder 6 and Ryleigh Capen 37 assists.

Eight players contributed goals as Barker posted an 8-0 victory at Newfane this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League field hockey game.

Madelina Pavlock, Sophia Gehardt, Adeline Atwater, Elise Monaco, Jordyn Kinne, Sophia Pavlock, Jillian Maines and Peyton Bradley each scored a goal for Barker which led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter and 7-0 at the half.

Barker is now 3-0 and Newfane 0-3 in N-O action.

Medina will begin C North Division football competition at Alden at 7 p.m. Friday in a matchup of two of last fall’s division tri-champions.

Medina, Alden and Newfane were C North tri-champions as they all finished with identical 6-1 records.

That three way log jam for the title occurred as Medina defeated Alden 44-7, Newfane defeated Medina 23-6 and Alden defeated Newfane 7-6.

Medina is looking to keep the momentum from a season opening 41-0 victory at Silver Creek/Forestville last Friday while Alden is seeking to rebound from a 42-6 loss to Wilson.

The Mustangs season opening offensive effort included two touchdown passes from quarterback Preston Woodworth to Jerrell Nealy along with two rushing touchdowns by Christian Moss and one each by Kolton Fletcher and Jayzon Wills. Woodworth competed 13 of 16 passes for 223 yards and Moss rushed for a total of 171 yards.

Albion will likewise be taking to the road for the second week in a row as the Purple Eagles begin B2 Division competition at Dunkirk at 7 p.m. Friday.

Both teams are looking to bounce back from season opening losses. Albion was downed 33-14 at Lew-Port and Dunkirk dropped a 28-21 decision to Depew in a B2 game.

In another C North Division opener, Barker/Roy-Hart will host Akron at 7 p.m. Friday at Barker.

Again both teams are looking to rebound from season opening losses. Barker/Roy-Hart lost 34-15 at Newfane and Akron bowed 33-20 to Gowanda.

On Saturday, Holley will host CG Finney at 1 p.m. in the Hawks home opener.

Holley lost 33-0 at Cardinal O’Hara in the season opener last Saturday while Finney was downed 28-12 by Red Jacket.

Coming from behind, Holley outlasted host Alexander in five sets 25-22, 16-25, 15-25, 25-20, 15-13 in a Genesee Region League volleyball match Wednesday evening.

Junior Desiree McCormick had 4 spiking kills, 7 assists and 1 service ace; senior Ali VanAmeron 4 aces, 2 kills, 2 blocks and 5 digs and sophomore Kylie Allport 4 aces, 3 kills and 6 digs to lead the way for Holley.

For Alexander, Ava Yax had 6 aces and 2 kills, Taylor Dundon 4 aces and 2 kills and Claudia Ripstein 6 kills and 2 aces.

Holley is now 2-1 on the season.

Scoring victories on the road, Lyndonville nipped Wheatland-Chili 2-1 and Kendall downed Attica 5-0 in Genesee Region League boys soccer action this evening.

Jesus Reyes scored both Lyndonville goals with the winner coming on a penalty kick as the Tigers improve to 1-1 and 2-1 overall.

Kendall built up a 3-0 half-time lead over Attica on two goals by Brandon Barrett and one by Vinny D’Agostino.

The Eagles then locked up the win on second half goals by Jonathan Esposito and Pablo Rosario-Reyes.

Jonny Conte earned the shutout in goal as Kendall improves to 2-0 and 4-0 overall.

In another G-R contest, Byron-Bergen outlasted visiting Holley 2-1 in double overtime.

Tarek Garrhet scored the Holley goal off an assist from Cooper Wolf.

In a Niagara-Orleans League game, Wilson blanked rival Newfane 5-0 as Aidan Neumann scored 3 goals to lead the way.

Rebounding from an opening set loss, Akron rallied to down host Medina 19-25, 25-19, 25-13, 27-25 in a Niagara-Orleans League volleyball match this evening.

Samanatha Heschke had 5 service aces and Karlee Cau, Caliyah St. Louis and Cassidy Janas 1 each for Medina.

Maya Anderson had 4 spiking kills for the Mustangs as Natalie Herbert had 3, Heschke 2 and St. Louis and Cau 1 each.

Grace Pearl had 7 kills and 6 aces, Lauren Snyder 6 kills and Kylie McOmber 4 kills for defending champion Roy-Hart which downed Wilson in straight sets to improve to 2-0.

Jillian LeBaron had 32 digs and Alivia Dumrese 4 kills for Albion in the three set loss to Newfane.

In a Genesee Region League match Elba downed Kendall in three sets.
