Ann White

Ann M. White, 76, of Albion, passed Jan. 9, 2019 in Orchard Manor Nursing Home following a short illness. She was born Jan. 3, 1943 in London, England to Alfred and Doris (Turvey) Spark, and she lived in this area since moving here in 1967.

In earlier years, Ann attended Webster Bible Church. She was an avid reader and a very artistic woman, especially when it came to drawing. She enjoyed knitting and particularly loved taking day trips.

Mrs. White was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Pombert; and several step siblings.

She is survived by her son, Matthew (Beth) White of Ohio; son-in-law, Frank Pombert of Albion; grandchildren, Katie, Christian, Eric, Maggie, Beth, David, Shannon, Sarah and Autumn; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Anna and Adeline.

The family will receive friends at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion, on Sun., Jan. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. only. Private service and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

Margery Cook

Margery Martha “Frenchie” Cook, of Ossipee, N.H. and formerly of Medina, passed away peacefully on Sat., Jan. 5, 2019.

Margery was born on Jan. 13, 1937, the daughter of Anna M. and Howard B. Joseph Sr. She graduated from Medina High School in 1954 and later worked for Delco (Rochester Products), and for Gasport Nursing Home and BOCES as an LPN. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, fishing, antiquing, baking, and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens.

She is survived by her children, Pamela E. Wright of Niskayuna, N.Y. and Timothy S. Vanderlaan of Shiloh, N.C.; two grandchildren, Shelby G. Turner and Brenna L. (Kris) Kowalczyk; one great-grandson, Lukas C. Kowalczyk; eight sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Margery was predeceased by her husband, James D. Cook; son-in-law, Arthur Wright; daughter-in-law, Caroline “Sue” Vanderlaan; and brothers, Howard Joseph Jr. and Robert Joseph.

A private service and interment will be held in Medina in the spring.

Karen O'BrienKaren M. O’Brien, 65, of Medina, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving family at her side. She was born on Nov. 5, 1953 in Buffalo, N.Y., a daughter of the late John Rosenbeck and Marguerite Moore.

Karen graduated from Medina High School in 1971 and was employed with Delphi of Rochester for 30 years, retiring in 2002. On Aug. 17, 2004, she married Patrick O’Brien, and together they owned and operated Main Liquor Store in Medina. Karen was a member of Junior Wilson Sportsmen’s Club of Medina, Medina Business Association, and the Orleans County Chamber of Commerce. Karen was a kind and loving person who loved and cared for animals, taking in many strays over the years. Karen always enjoyed visiting with her customers and was loved by many.

Karen is survived by her husband, Patrick O’Brien; children, Chris (Carissa) Egan of Norman, Okla., Dan (Sue) Egan of Forestville, N.Y., Ryan (Jessica) Egan of Rochester, N.Y., Shawn (Noel) O’Brien of Lockport, and Philip (Donna) O’Brien of Rochester; grandchildren, Nathan, Ben, Jackson, Cece, Riley, Ella, Dylan, Angelina, Grayson and Cody; three siblings, Dianne (Clare) Humphrey of Medina, James (Jackie Boon) Moore of Batavia, and Gary (Nancy) Moore of Albion; nieces and nephew, Annie, Nicci and Gary; two great-nieces, BreAnna and Bianca; stepfather, Walter Schutt of  Chandler, Ariz.; her beloved faithful companion, Penny Lane; and many of her precious cats.

There are no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arlene R. Snyder

Arlene SnyderArlene R. Snyder, 85, of the Town of Alabama and recently of Applegate Manor in Medina, passed away peacefully on Jan. 11, 2019. She was born April 18, 1933 in Alabama to the late Raymond and Bessie (Newton) Smith and would remain in the area her entire life.

Arlene was a longtime member of Alabama-Basom United Methodist Church and was also influential in quilting prayer shawls for community members in need of prayers. She was also a founding member of the Alabama Jolly Seniors. Arlene worked for many years as Office Manager of Peterson Drug Stores, and in her spare time she enjoyed gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Leland Snyder in 2004; and sister, Dolores Dennis.

Arlene is survived by her children, Gary (Donna) Snyder and Brenda (Mark) Sherwood; granddaughter, Melissa Snyder; brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Janice Snyder; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport NY 14105, on Thu., Jan. 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. Arlene’s funeral service will be held at Middleport United Methodist Church, 9 Park Ave., on Fri., Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. Interment in Alabama Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Edward DefilippsAmerican flagEdward A. DeFilipps, 93, of Holley, passed away Jan. 11, 2019. He was born March 24, 1925 in Holley, a son of the late Michael and Mary (Donatelli) DeFilipps.

Edward served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of Jewell Buckman Post #529 American Legion.

He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia, in 1999; and his siblings, Louis, Sam, Dominico, Fedora Formicola, George, Michael and Edith.

Edward is survived by his sons, John (Donna) DeFilipps and Gary (Emily) DeFilipps; grandchildren, Todd, Stacy, Garrett and Samuel; sister, Louise Lusk; brother, David (Mary Ellen) DeFilipps; sister-in-law, Pat DeFilipps; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Annette SilsbyAntoinette Silsby, of Middleport, known to all as Annette, died on Jan. 8, 2019 in Lockport. Annette was born on Sept. 23, 1946 to her parents, Joseph and Mary Amedeo of Gasport.

Annette was the loving wife of the late Marc S. Silsby for 50 years. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Marc J. and Alison Silsby; her daughter and son-in-law, Daniel and Nicole (Silsby) Sandford; her sisters, Jean Burns and Mary Ann Merritt, both of Gasport; and her six grandchildren, Casey, Savannah, Victoria, Liam, Samantha and Daniel.

A graduate of Royalton-Hartland High School, Annette was a successful business owner for many years. She saw good in all living things and loved animals, especially dogs and cats. Annette was a talented gardener, home decorator and cook. She loved to throw parties and prepare big meals for family and friends. She also had an excellent sense of humor and was never afraid to show her silly side, especially with her grandchildren. She approached everything in her life with passion and generosity.

Rosanne Hale

Rosanne M. Hale, 73, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., formerly of Randolph, N.Y., passed away peacefully the day before her 74th birthday on Tue., Jan. 8, 2019, with her daughter by her side.

Born Jan. 9, 1945 in St. Catherines, Ontario, Rosanne was the daughter of the late George L. and Rita (Reddy) Doubek. She was a graduate of Randolph High School, class of 1962. She lived in Randolph for many years and resided in Lehigh Acres for the past 20 years. Rosanne worked for Brooks Pharmacy and Eckerd Drug Store and, lastly, for Walmart in Fort Myers, Fla., where she worked as a financial clerk. She was a member of the Randolph Legion Auxiliary and was a parishioner of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Lehigh Acres. Rosanne had a love for all plants and flowers, especially her orchids.

She is survived by her children, John (Laurel) Hale of Randolph and Michelle (Jeff) Plummer of Lyndonville; seven grandchildren, Dustin (Bre) Hale, Samantha Hale, David Everts Jr., Jacob Hale, Ryan (Alicia) Earle, Nicole Earle and Michael Plummer; eight great-grandchildren, Piper, Peyton, Lukas, Jaxon, Wyatt, Myra, Jayden and Raelin; siblings, Anthony (Paulette) Doubek of Midway, Tenn., James (Sharon) Doubek of Sunnyvale, Calif., Felicity (Jerry) McAlister of Lehigh Acres, and Matthew Doubek of Randolph; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Deb Good, who was with her throughout her illness.

An hour of calling will be held on Sat., Jan. 12 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina NY 14103, with a memorial service immediately following at 1:30 p.m. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sat., Jan. 19 at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Randolph.

Donald L. Dillon

Donald Dillon

Donald L. Dillon, 83, longtime resident of Medina, entered into rest peacefully on Mon., Jan. 7, 2019 at his residence at The Manor House in Batavia.

Born April 7, 1935 in Medina, Don was a son of the late Walter E.V. and Hazel L. (Harmer) Dillon. He graduated from Medina High School in the class of 1952 and, shortly after, married the former Geraldine “Gerry” Grimes. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Alfred State College. Mr. Dillon worked as Comptroller of Humanities in the library system at the University of Buffalo. He then was employed at the Albion Correctional Facility for many years and retired as a sergeant. He was a proud member of Council 82 N.Y.S. Law Enforcement Officers Union. Mr. Dillon was a passionate reader, loved relaxing outdoors on his patio with his pets, and was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills.

He is survived by four children, Kenneth Dillon of Orlando, Fla., Karen (Douglas) Siedenburg of Port Murray, N.J., Dawn (Richard) Stacey of Albion, and James (Michelle) Dillon of Batavia; daughter-in-law, Karen (Greenland) Dillon (wife of Kimberly); eight grandchildren, Julie (Charles) Johnston, James (Kelly) Randall, Megan (Andrew) Surowiec, Rebecca (Gannon) Stacey, Richard Stacey, Aaron and Ryan Dillon; three great-grandchildren, Sean Fenton, Abigail Johnson and Juniper Randall; and his sister, Lois D. Morse.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Gerry Dillon, in 2010; an infant son, Donald Dillon; son, Kurt Dillon, in 1965; son, Kimberly Dillon, in 2015; grandson, Michael Dillon, in 2011; and brother, Charles Dillon.

Jack W. Rossman

Jack Rossman

Jack W. Rossman, 83, of Waterport, died Jan. 8, 2019 in the Martin Linsin Hospice Residence, following a brief illness. He was born Nov. 3, 1935 in Bellefonte, Pa. to Kermit and Thelma (Miller) Rossman, and he lived in this area for over 20 years.

Jack was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of Spring Mills United Church of Christ, a life member of the NRA, and an avid outdoorsman – in particular, he loved to fish. That is part of the reason he and Roseann moved to this area, because of the excellent fishery. Jack was a gunsmith and a hobbyist who built working models of antique “Hit and Miss” engines. He enjoyed taking people on his boat, “Agitator,” to fish the bounties of Lake Ontario.

Jack is survived by his wife of 58 years, Roseann; two sons, Jack K. (Lynne) Rossman of Colorado and Chris (Cherenne) Rossman of California; a sister, Jill (John) Palmer of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Megan, Sydney, Julia and Shelby; a niece, Darbie; and a nephew, Philip.

There will be no calling hours. Private service and interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Pennsylvania.

Robert Kurdziel

Robert F. Kurdziel, 69, of Medina, died suddenly in his home on Sat., Jan. 5, 2019.

Born May 17, 1949 in Medina, Bob was the only child of the late Edmund J. and Helen M. (Biernacki) Kurdziel. He was a 1967 graduate of Medina High School. After high school, he married the love of his life, Nancy L. Marek, in 1970. He worked for Abex Corporation until 1985, before leaving to start his business as the owner/operator of Bob’s Collision. Bob loved doing auto body work and using his skills to serve the community. Upon closing his shop, he went on to work grounds and maintenance at Medina Central School District, where he drew much enjoyment from the company of his colleagues and the school staff before retiring. He was an avid gardener who loved outdoor work, and he ran Kurdziel Landscaping as a side job. He was a proud supporter of the Buffalo Bills, and he also enjoyed watching NASCAR. He very much enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and cherished the companionship of his neighbors and friends, especially Ray Parker, Luanne Howe and Don (Nancy) Wasnock. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Nancy L. Kurdziel; three daughters, Laurie Kurdziel-Tai (Dana Bentley), Jill (Robert) Kurdziel Tillett, and Susan Todd; six grandsons, Justin and Aaron Kurdziel-Tai, Billy and Oliver Tillett, and Devin and Ethan Galbreath; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Frank (the late Beverly) Sargent, Larry (Norva) Marek, Sandra (Glenn) Marek, Gary Marek, Scott (Tanya) Marek, Greg (Renee) Marek, and Brian (Tonna) Marek; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Thu., Jan. 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Renee Hunt

Renee N. Hunt, 35, of Albion, died Jan. 5, 2019 in Strong Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born March 19, 1983 in Rochester to Robert and Nancy (Gugel) Spies and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Renee was a person who was constantly working on something, and she particularly enjoyed construction-related projects. She enjoyed elephants, working on cars, fishing, watching wrestling, yard work, and supporting the Miami Dolphins. Her greatest joy, however, was her children, who she loved with all her heart and soul.

Mrs. Hunt was predeceased by her father, Robert Spies.

She is survived by her fiancé, David Shaw; her estranged husband, Charlie Hunt; her children, Elizabeth Spies-Hunt of Albion, Brittany Spies-Hunt of Albion, Owen Hunt of Albion, Abigail Hunt of Albion, Sydney Shaw of Rochester, Mark Shaw of Rochester, and Samantha Shaw of Rochester; her siblings, Lara (Christopher) Krayer of Rochester, Sarah (Benton) Cornell of Rochester, Andrew (Sandra Falcomer) Spies of Medina, Erin (Zachary) Claus of Rochester, and Michelle (Matthew Webster) Spies of Albion; her grandson, Anthony; her mother, Nancy Spies of Albion; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Ronald Wright

Ronald J. Wright Sr., 78, of Medina, entered into rest on Sat., Jan. 5, 2019.

Born on Oct. 31, 1940 in Bradford, Pa., he was the son of the late Lawrence and Sylvia (McNeil) Wright.

Ronald moved to the Medina area in 1961. He married the former Carol Lane in 1962. He worked at various jobs, including at R.J. Reynolds of Lockport, from which he retired. Ronald enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.

Ronald is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol Wright; five children, Ronald (Sharon) Wright Jr. of Medina, Starla Peck of Lockport, Richard Wright of Lockport, Dennis (Michelle) Wright of Medina, and Crystal Wright of Medina; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Alma Moore of Arizona, Leoda Moore of Florida, Therisa Gilbert of Lockport, and Thelma Dolan of Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.

Ronald is preceded in death by five siblings, Sylvia Wright, Wanda Vosburg, Alberta Potter, Lawrence Wright and John Wright.

Karen E. Maier

Karen MaierKaren E. Maier, 69, of Albion, passed away on Jan. 4, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Titusville, Pa., a daughter of Vida Cook (Holmes).

Karen retired after a long career at 3M and Eastman Kodak. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as spending time with family and friends, gardening in the yard, and relaxing by the pool. She was an avid reader, with a vast collection of books that she enjoyed losing herself in. She was an animal lover who had a little rescue companion dog, Abbey.  She will be missed, and her memory will forever be carried in the hearts of her family and friends.

Mrs. Maier was predeceased by her loving husband of 39½ years, Gary Maier; and her sister, Robin Cook of Michigan.

She is survived by her children, Daniel Green of Albion, Robert (Cindy) Unger of Churchville, and Cherie (Dennis) Brooks of Holley; her mother, Vida Cook of Titusville; and her grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Robbie, Nicholas and Ricci.

Paul Thomas Pollard, 71, of Lyndonville, went to be with the Lord on Wed., Jan. 2, 2019 with his loving family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Paul was born on Feb. 22, 1947 in Rochester, N.Y., son of the late Henry G. and Joy M. Pollard. Paul was raised in Medina, where he graduated from high school in the class of 1965. He attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history. He then went on to serve in the United States Army National Guard, and he worked alongside his family at Grant Pollard Insurance in Medina until his retirement in 2002.

Following retirement, Paul fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a historical curator on his beloved Jeckyll Island in Georgia, where he wintered for many years with his loving wife and his faithful companion dog, Sadie Grace. In his spare time, Paul enjoyed kayaking, camping, cross-country skiing, hiking and golfing. He also enjoyed researching his family history, which included both English and American roots. Paul loved old cars, walks on the beach, and spending time with his grandchildren. He felt he had experienced all of the things he ever wanted to do in his lifetime. Paul was involved in many organizations within the community. From an early age, he was a member of Boy Scouts of America, achieving the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He was also a member of Lyndonville Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and elder. He was a member of the Lyndonville Lions Club, served as a chairman of the Lyndonville Fourth of July parade for many years, and was a member of the Friends of Historic Jekyll Island. Paul was a key person in the renovations and restorations of several historic structures there.

Paul is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean; four daughters, Alison (Philip) Boseck, Libby (Joel) Woodroe, Megan (Scott) Szalay and Hannah Pollard; nine grandchildren, Tyler, Andrew, Brandon, Ashley, Hayden, Gavin, Jamie, Luke and Abigail; three siblings, Sarah (Craig) Lacy, Timothy (Karen) Pollard and Amanda Pollard; several nieces and nephews; and several close cousins. Those who knew Paul understood his dedication and love for his family’s well-being and happiness.

Robert M. “Bob” Arnett, 71, of Barre, died unexpectedly on Dec. 28, 2018. He was born March 1, 1947 in Medina, a son of the late Charles and Leila (Watson) Arnett, and he lived in this area all of his life.

Bob loved to fish, camp, play cards, sit on his porch, and spend time with family and special friends. He was a member of Godfrey’s Pond in Batavia, and he worked at GM in Rochester, retiring in 1999.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Brian Arnett, in 2017; brothers, Charles Arnett Jr., Olin Arnett, Walter Arnett and William Arnett; and his sister, Dorothy Kennedy.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carollee; his son, Shawn (Cindy) Arnett of Albion; grandsons, Justin and Aaron Arnett; many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins; and his loving cats that were always by his side during the hard times in his life, Milo, Maggie, Mikey, Chrissy, Eleanor, Buddy, Autumn and Summer.

There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Daryl Banazwski

Daryl L. Banazwski, 63, of Medina, entered into rest peacefully on Wed., Jan. 2, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Daryl was born on April 29, 1955, the son of the late Walter J. and Ruth (Groff) Banazwski. He graduated from Medina High School in 1973, and he earned an associate degree in business management and business administration from Erie Community College in 1975. On June 11, 1977, Daryl married the love of his life, Paula, and together they had three children. He worked at Marine Midland Bank in downtown Buffalo, then went on to work at Harrison Radiator Division of GMC/Delphi in Lockport, where he worked for 30 years, 15 years in production and another 15 years as a skilled trade pipefitter, retiring on Jan. 1, 2007. After retiring from Delphi, Daryl worked for New York State Parks, Recreation and Historical Preservation as a maintenance employee at Lakeside Beach State Park until 2017. He was a member of Local Union UAW 686 and CSEA Local 110. Daryl was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church and Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Parish in Medina.

Daryl loved the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Sabres, NASCAR racing, the Boston Red Sox, and attending sporting events with his children when they were in high school. He was also involved with Boy Scout Troop 35 and Little League. Daryl enjoyed cooking on the grill, camping at Lakeside Beach State Park, going to Ransomville Speedway on Friday nights with his son, David, and hanging out with his two little grandchildren, Aidan and Logan. He cherished the time spent with family, especially around the holidays, with Christmas being his favorite, and birthday parties. He enjoyed going on trips out of state to see his son, Brian, and his family, going to his son’s wedding, and walking his daughter, Sarah, down the aisle and the reception, dancing and pictures afterwards.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Paula (Szczechowiak) Banazwski of Medina; children, LCDR Brian (Michelle) Banazwski, USN, of Norfolk, Va., David Banazwski of Medina, and Sarah (Robert) Harding of Auburn, N.Y.; two grandsons, Aidan Joseph and Logan William Banazwski; brothers, Jan (Joyce) Banazwski of Medina, and Terry (Marilyn) Banazwski of Lakeland, Fla.; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Szczechowiak of Medina; sisters-in-law, Linda (Tom) Calabrese, Sandra Stein and JoAnn Lewandowski; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. They are all the love of my life. I will miss them dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law, Joseph Szczechowiak; and niece, Michele Banazwski Gill.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tue., Jan. 8 at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. The rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Daniel J. Fawls will celebrate his Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Wed., Jan. 9 in Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church in Medina. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Lidia Flores Rivera, 79, of Medina, went to be with the Lord on Sat., Dec. 29, 2018 at Millard Fillmore Hospital.

Born on Oct. 9, 1939 in San German, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Jesus and Maria Flores Delgado.

Lidia moved from Puerto Rico to the Medina area, where she met and married her late husband, William Rivera Sr. She worked various jobs, including at Heinz in Medina and at Monroe Frozen Foods. Lidia enjoyed the outdoors and enjoyed growing plants, having a very green thumb that was the envy of all, and she loved to cook for family and friends.

Lidia is survived by four children, Iris Torres of Puerto Rico, Heriberto (Santa Oliveris) Torres of Buffalo, Zoraida (Richard Lopez) Torres of New York City, and William Rivera Jr. of Medina; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Cheo Flores of Puerto Rico, Candy Lugo of Middleport, Maria “Nova” Flores Delgado of Texas, Pasquel Flores Delgado of Puerto Rico, and Carmen (Jorge) Fiero of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Lidia is preceded in death by Ramone “Pepe” Torres Flores, and by three brothers in Puerto Rico.

Relatives and friends may attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tue., Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary’s Church, Medina, with the Rev. Daniel J. Fawls celebrating.

Douglas L. Coon, 85, of Medina, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 1, 2019 at his home, with his loving family at his side.

Born on Nov. 11, 1933 in the Town of Ridgeway, he was the son of the late W. Sheldon and Rhea (Gray) Coon.

He grew up in Shelby Basin and, at the age of 17, worked at FMC. Douglas enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Helena CA75. After four years of service, he returned home and started a family with his first wife. In 1974, he married his current wife, the former Theresa Barkley, and continued to work at FMC. He retired in 1995.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, hunting, and playing cards. Doug was also a member of Community Fellowship Church.

Doug is survived by his wife of 44 years, Theresa; nine children, Paul (Marina) Coon of Kings Land, Ga., Colleen Doerschler of Galesburg, Mich., Pamela (Karl) Koch of Depew, N.Y., Douglas (Barb) Michaud of Medina, Maryjane Buzard of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Ann Kennedy of Batavia, Hazel (Terry) Cox of Summerville, S.C., Kathy Michaud of Knowlesville, and Edward (Beth) Lake of Bouckville, N.Y.; six siblings, Robert Coon of Medina, Duane (Debbie) Coon of Middleport, Lucinda Egan of Medina, Raymond Coon of the Southern Tier, Shirley Raetz of Lockport, and Alice (John) Tirtadjaja of Lockport; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Doug is predeceased by his first wife, the former Beverly Luff; a brother, Roger Coon; and a sister, Carol Szalay.

Relatives and friends may call on Sat., Jan. 5 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Community Fellowship Church, 3144 Johnson Creek Road, Middleport NY 14105, where a funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. with Doug’s nephew, the Pastor Rev. Joe Szalay, officiating. Burial will be in Bates Road Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by members of Lincoln Post #1483 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Butts-Clark Post #204 American Legion.

Jack HandsJack R. “Jackie” Hands Jr., 51, died Dec. 31, 2018 at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was born April 10, 1967 in Rochester, a son of the late Jack R. Sr. and Clara (Reed) Hands, and he lived in the Holley area for the past year.

Jackie built many radio-controlled boats and airplanes. He also enjoyed hunting deer and ducks.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Alicia; his sister, Connie Jo (Rex) Conley of Ohio; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his loving pets.

Rose M. Bridwell

Rose BridwellRose Mary (Albanese) Bridwell, of Lockport, passed away Dec. 30, 2018 in Niagara Hospice House. She was born June 28, 1920 in Albion, a daughter of Sarafino and Maria Albanese, who emigrated from the Calabria region of Italy.

Rose met her husband, Jack, while he was with his U.S. Army unit, working the orchards of Orleans County before being shipped to Europe during World War II. He preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 2000.

She was involved with Ridgeview Homes Mobile Home Park in Lockport, which she co-owned for 50 years. Rose enjoyed landscaping and gardening, and she was a founding member of the Kenan Center Herb Club.

Rose’s family includes her children, Jack (Johndolyn), Richard, Rosemary, Susan (Dave Bailey) Schiferle, and the late William; grandchildren, Richard and the late Robin; eight siblings; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Fri., Jan. 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sat., Jan. 5 at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan On The Lake RC Church, 3455 Ewings Road, Newfane. Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery.
