Patricia A. Hardenbrook

KENDALL – Patricia A. Hardenbrook, age 82, died July 5, 2019 in her home surrounded by her family.

She was born March 25, 1937 in Hamlin to William and Marion (Strussenberg) Ophardt and had lived in this area her entire life.

Pat was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Kendall, the Kendall Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and served several terms as Chairwomen of the Orleans County Republican Committee.  She worked as a nurse from 1957-1963 at both Albion and Brockport hospitals prior to joining the Orleans County Department of Social Services.  Pat worked in virtually every position in that department from 1963 to include serving as DSS Commissioner in 1982 until her retirement in 1993.  Along with her husband, she was a Licensed Insurance Broker from 1971-1999 and was named Orleans County Women of the Year in the early 90’s.  Pat enjoyed spending the winters in Florida, knitting, crocheting, golfing and playing cards.  Mrs. Hardenbrook was predeceased by two sisters: Norma Durrant and Mary Lusk.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Cole; son, William (Dorrie) Hardenbrook of Kendall; daughter, Jan (Mark) Spates of FL; grandchildren, Cole (Colleen), Jason (Elicia) and Bryan (Brianna) Hardenbrook, Luke (Kayla) Spates; great-grandchildren, Paige, Ethan, Paul, Brynn, Brenton and Abigail; sister, Shirley Ophard of Hamburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 16650 State Rt. 31 in Holley, on Friday, July 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend Pat’s Funeral Service on Saturday, July 13, at 2 p.m. in Concordia Lutheran Church, 1769 Kendall Rd., Kendall, NY, 14476. Interment will be in Beechwood Cemetery.

Danny Weese

Danny Gardner Weese, 71, of Albion, died July 4, 2019. He was born Aug. 5, 1947 in Harrison, W.Va., a son of the late Harry and Olive (Starcher) Weese, and he lived in this area for the last 51 years.

He worked for 27 years as a mechanic at Triple G Farms in Elba. Danny was a real joker who loved fishing, hunting, building things out of wood, farming, train rides, and trips to West Virginia; but, most of all, he loved spending time with his family and three miniature dachshunds.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Harry, Denver and Dayton; sisters, Mary Lou Weese and Bessie Marlene Horch; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Weese and Erma Weese; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Weese; and brother-in-law, James (Anna) Monagan.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn; son, Thomas Weese; daughters, Lorretta Russell, Janet (Jason) Nickerson, Amanda (John Rosario) Weese, and Tammy (Javier Rosario) Weese; grandchildren, James (Christina), Ashley, Cody, C.J. (Jenna), Brandon, Justin, Justine, Mariah, Dustin, Jordon, Tyler, Hannah, Jayden, Gino, Isabelle and Jada; great-grandchildren, Joel, Jesika, J.J., Rayne, Adysyn, Danie, Aurora and Ellie; brothers, Dencil, David (Kathy), Douglas, Donnie, and Dalmas (Colleen); sisters, Joanne (Doug) Kieffer and Jackie (Kenny) Davis; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Michael H. Briggs, of Albion and Brockport, passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2019 at the age of 49.

He was predeceased by his mother, Marilyn Briggs.

He is survived by his children, Kane, Carmen and Stella; their mother, Kasey Briggs; his father, Howard Briggs; his sister, Stacy (Chris Zimmer) Briggs; and many other close family members and friends.

Michael was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time with his family and friends. His children were his pride and joy.

Elaine Medrano

Elaine D. Medrano, 63, of Medina, entered into rest on Tue., July 2, 2019 at Medina Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 19, 1955 in Medina, Elaine was a daughter of the late William Elster Sr. and Shirley (Bellamy) Elster. She married Luciano “Max” Medrano in 1998. Elaine worked for many years as the front office manager for Lake Country Pennysaver in Albion. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Max Medrano; three children, Thomas (Ronda Schreiber) Shingleton, John (Christine) Shingleton and Jennifer (Greg) Shingleton; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Susan (Tim) Cutshall, Valerie Elster, William G. (Donald Much) Elster Jr. and Kim (Eric) Brown; mother in-law, Teodora Huere; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Elaine was predeceased by three children, Elizabeth Shingleton in 1999, William Shingleton in 2003, and Amanda Bloom in 2011; and a grandson, Donald Banks Jr. in 1995.

Calling hours will be held on Thu., July 11 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where her memorial service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. Daniel A. Thurber will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Hartland Central Cemetery columbarium, Gasport.

Jean Wall

Jean Ann Wall, 82, of Leesburg, Fla., went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 1, 2019.

Jean was born June 15, 1937 in Alabama, N.Y. to the late Melvin and Rose Varley Blackman. She was a member of Celebration Baptist Church in Leesburg. She retired as a bookkeeper in the retail food industry. She and her husband, Rodney, then moved to Florida from Albion in 1998.

Jean is survived by her loving husband, Rodney; daughter, Jodi Lee Vandegenachte; sons, Jeffery Mark Wall and Joel Lynn Wall; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A gathering will be held Sat., July 6 from 12 to 1 p.m. at Highland Lake Community Center, Leesburg. Refreshments will be served prior to a memorial service, which will begin at 1 p.m., with Pastor George Thomas officiating.

James Boring

James Monroe Boring, of Medina, passed away on Tue., July 2, 2019 at Northgate Health Care Facility, with his loving family by his side. James was born on May 28, 1939 in New Florence, Pa. He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Boring; and his mother, Tesse (Schilling) Boring. James worked at FMC in Middleport for 39 years, retiring in 2001. James loved being with family, enjoyed watching horse racing, and loved to cook. He was also a big sports fan.

James is survived by his siblings, Bert, Arthur, Edward and Jean, all of New Florence; his sons, Jeffrey, Matthew and Nicholas, all of Medina; his daughter, Lisa Smith of Rochester; his granddaughters, Alison and Megan Boring of Medina; and a longtime companion, Joyce Munn of Medina.

Kathleen Munn

Kathleen A. Munn, 61, of Medina, died unexpectedly on Sun., June 30, 2019.

Born Jan. 26, 1958 in Niagara Falls, N.Y., Kathy was the daughter of the late Donald and Helen (Christina) Dixon. She married Jack S. Munn Jr. on Aug. 6, 1994. She worked as a waitress and bartender in her earlier years, and then as a home health aide. She was employed for many years at the Niagara Woodland Campground in Ransomville, from which she eventually retired. Kathy enjoyed playing bingo and camping, and she loved to cook. She will be lovingly remembered for being a devoted grandmother, and for always being willing to help anyone in need.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Jack S. Munn Jr.; her daughter, Serina Dixon; four grandsons, Dillon (Karlee), Austin, Zachary and Dominic Winters; a great-grandson, Adrian; five brothers, Donald (Darlene) Dixon of Colorado, Joe Dixon of Camillus, N.Y., Matthew (Heather) Dixon of Tampa, Fla., Charles (Heather) Dixon of Phoenix, N.Y., and Steven (Julie) Dixon of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

June Ellen Dorf, 73, of Henrietta, longtime resident of Elba and 1964 graduate of Elba Central School, passed away Fri., June 28, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital after some challenging times and a good life. After working in retail for many years, June Ellen went to work for the Orleans Correctional Facility, and she retired in 2007.

June Ellen was born June 11, 1946 in Batavia, a daughter of the late June and Anna Allen Dorf.

She is survived by her sisters, Lynda (late Kris) Porter of Lewiston and Gail (Joseph) Gabriel of Brockport; two nephews, Jeffrey Porter of Marysville, Wash. and David (Paula) Porter of Olathe, Kan.; two great-nieces, Courtney and Mary Beth Porter of Olathe; her aunt, Dorothy (late Bernard) Allen of Elba; and many good friends and cousins.

Dorothy E. (Sonnelitter) Bokman

Dorothy Bokman

Dorothy E. (Sonnelitter) Bokman, 89, died peacefully at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Michele.

Born Oct. 28, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Esther (Jackson) Sonnelitter. Dorothy grew up with a love of animals, and she gained local notoriety competing with her champion jumper, Popeye, a one-eyed crossbreed with whom she regularly defeated many high-priced purebreds. She graduated from Lockport High School and went on to obtain her master’s degree in education from the University of Buffalo. Dorothy worked as a business teacher at Medina High School for many years. After she retired, she went on to a second career developing and managing apartments in the area.

Dorothy was predeceased by her former husband, Michael Bokman; and her partner later in life, Bob Walker.

She is survived by her son, Brad (Michele) Bokman; her loving grandchildren, Natalie (Ryan) Seal, Chelsea, Matt and Mitch Bokman; and several relatives.

Friends may call on Sat., July 13 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where her funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Friends and family are invited afterwards to a Celebration of Life at the Bokman farm, 3844 Long Bridge Road, Albion NY 14411. Delois Scurry

Delois Scurry, 62, of Albion, passed away June 29, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 12, 1956 in Monticello, Fla., a daughter of Sarah (Richardson) Scurry and the late John Scurry Sr. She was a member of Royal Church of God in Christ. Delois enjoyed watching soap operas, mowing the lawn, and flower gardening. She received her greatest joy in spending time with her granddaughter, Chantee Johnson.

She was predeceased by her father, John Scurry Sr.; and her brother, John Scurry Jr.

She is survived by her loving family: son, Cedric Johnson; granddaughter, Chantee Johnson; mother, Sarah Scurry; siblings, Linda D. Scurry and Milton E. Scurry; cousin/brother, Freddie Gardner; nieces, Tunisia Scurry and Jasmine Scurry; nephew, John Scurry III; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Sandra-SoosSandra A. Soos, 78, of Middleport, died on June 29, 2019, under the loving care of her family and Niagara Hospice. Sandy was born June 16, 1941 in Buffalo to Joseph and Dorothy (Letke) Schieberl and lived in this area for over 40 years.

She graduated from Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart and married her husband, Edward, on Nov. 24, 1960. Sandy was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish – St. Stephen’s Church, and she worked for over 30 years in the Royalton-Hartland Central School District, retiring in 2007. She loved her job at the school and enjoyed interacting with the students and faculty. It was commonplace to hear students say, “I just love that Mrs. Soos!”

Sandy was an avid sports fan. In particular, she was a fan of the Buffalo Bills, the New York Yankees and the Buffalo Sabres. She also enjoyed dancing, gardening, reading, going out to dinner, traveling, and, especially, spending time with her family and being in and around the company of other people.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Edward G. Soos; her children, Tracy (George) Clayton of Pennsylvania, Susan (Russell) Scrufari of Lockport, and Edward (Susan) Soos of Gasport; her grandchildren, Scott (Jessica) Walker, John (Samantha) Walker, Carrie Ann Scrufari, Jenny Lynn Scrufari, Sandra (Anthony) Clark and Katilyn Scrufari; her great-grandchildren, Lincoln Bregy, Anthony “TJ” Clark and Luke Scott Walker; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Molly.

Born July 4, 1943 in Medina, Craig was a son of the late Gerald and Dorothy (Tripp) Houseman. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967. Craig worked for many years at Fisher-Price Toys in Medina in the maintenance department.

He is survived by his son, Todd (Robin) Houseman; granddaughter, Mercedes (Cody) George; great-granddaughter, Madison George; brother, Gary (Linda) Houseman; sister, Cheryl (Lee) Hoffman; and his dog, Harley.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Terry Houseman.

Karl Weaver

Karl M. “Uncle Mack” Weaver, 84, of Medina, went to be with the Lord on Tue., June 25, 2019 at Buffalo General Hospital.

Born on Oct. 30, 1934 in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of the late John and Jean (McClive) Weaver.

Karl grew up in Amherst, N.Y. and graduated from Amherst High School in 1952. He then attended Alfred University, receiving his bachelor’s degree in agriculture. Karl married the former Frances Osiecki on Aug. 12, 1967, and together they made their home in Medina. He was employed as a meter reader with the Village of Medina for 23 years, retiring in 1996. Karl attended First Baptist Church of Medina and Community Fellowship Church of Middleport. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his family and was known for his love of what life had to offer.

Karl is survived by his wife of 51 years, Frances Weaver; three children, Debbie (Blaine) Becking, Katherine Lozo and John Weaver, all of Medina; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Jean Kenward of Medina; a niece, Nancy (Timothy) Pratt of St. Louis, Mo.; and a nephew, Richard (Katherine) Weaver of Dallas, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sat., June 29 at First Baptist Church, 203 W. Center St., Medina NY 14103, with the Pastor, Rev. Michael Stephenson, officiating. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery.

Kenneth Paisley

Kenneth Orval Paisley Jr., of Middleport, passed away on June 25, 2019 after a short illness. He was born Nov. 9, 1963 in Berwick, Pa., the son of Mary and the late Kenneth Paisley Sr.

Ken grew up in Berwick, where he was active in scouting, earning the Eagle Scout rank. He graduated from Bloomsburg University, after which he pursued a career in environmental science. He came to Western New York in 1993 to work for Sevenson Environmental as their Technical Service Manager, a position he held until he became disabled in 2018. He was also a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). Ken was a member of the Coles Creek Sportsman’s Club. He loved the outdoors and conservation, a love he passed on to his children. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was the consummate “hockey dad.”

In addition to his mother, Mary (the late Kenneth Sr.) Paisley, he is survived by his wife, Lauren (Sionko) of Middleport; children, Daria and Thomas of Middleport; sister, Kathy Jo (Brian) Minnick; sister-in-law, Traci (Steven) Phillips; nieces and nephews, Chase, Abbigail, Kirstin, Samantha and Violet; mother- and father-in-law, Ray and Marion Sionko; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends at Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport, on Sat., June 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Ken’s memorial service will be held following visitation. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Mary PrattMary Patricia “Pat” Pratt, 85, of Canandaigua and New Smyrna Beach, Fla., passed away on June 24, 2019. She was born May 22, 1934 in Rochester to the late Leo and Mildred (Kelly) Hargather.

Pat loved horses, movies, plays, softball and ice skating in her younger years. She was always active and was a talented musician, playing the guitar, the piano and the banjo. Pat enjoyed traveling and playing golf with her late husband, Richard. She was always a social person. Pat loved her four boys and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Pat was predeceased by her husband, Richard M. Pratt, in 1998; son, Michael Leo Pratt, in 2014; and sister, Judy Gerew, in 1995.

Pat is survived by her sons, Rick (Carolyn), Chris (Pauline) and Tim (Christine); daughter-in-law, Barb Pratt; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, William (Pattie) Hargather; lifelong friend, Peggy Commons; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Emily StalkerEmily M. Stalker, 86, of Medina, entered into rest peacefully with her family at her side on Mon., June 24, 2019 at Medina Memorial Hospital. She was born June 5, 1933, a daughter of the late Florian and Cecelia (Bialas) Sledzik.

She graduated from Medina High School in the class of 1951. On May 29, 1954, she married Glenn A. Stalker. Emily worked for the R.H. Newell Shirt Factory from 1951 to 1956 and was employed as a secretary for the Medina Central School District from 1969 to 1995. Emily was a lifelong active member of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus R.C. Church and Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, St. Mary’s Church in Medina. She was a member of the Mother’s Club, the Rosary Society, the choir and the bereavement committee, and she also served as a Eucharistic minister. An active member of the community, she volunteered through TWIG and was a member of the Red Hat Society, Busy Buddies, Senior Citizens of Western Orleans and Johnson’s Creek Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed playing cards and taking trips to the casino. Emily was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her kind smile and gracious presence will be missed by all.

Beside her parents, she is predeceased by her grandson, Sgt. Trevor T. Cook, USMC, on July 6, 2011; sister, Dorothy Sledzik in 1940; and brother, Bernard Sledzik in 1995.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Glenn A. Stalker; her sister, Barbara Keirn; three daughters, Lorie (Bob) Gilligan, Carol (David) Cook and Christine Barone; five grandchildren, Lisa Marciniak, Jessica (Pete) Balcer, Chelsea Cook, Andrea (Joe) Baldi and Alyssa Barone; four great-grandchildren, Keirha Marciniak, Morgan Balcer, Joseph Baldi and Renzo Baldi; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thu., June 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Fri., June 28 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church, Medina. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a future date.
