Dianne Frocchi

Dianne FrocchiDianne Frocchi, 75, passed away on March 12, 2020 surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She was born on Aug. 7, 1944 in Laurinburg, N.C. to Grace (Collins) Sweet and Floyd Blue Sweet Sr.

After moving to Medina, Dianne met and married Richard Frocchi on Aug. 17, 1972. Together, they raised three children and were active in the community. She was the welcoming face at the Toy Box, the Apple Grove, and also Louie’s. Always dressed to the nines, patrons looked forward to seeing “Monique” so she could bring a smile to their faces.

Dianne was a semi-professional fast pitch softball player. With the motto “Look like a lady, but play like a man,” Dianne was a proud Rockette, playing softball for over 20 years. Dianne also bowled at Ranallo’s and Medina Lanes, with two 300 games under her belt. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking her southern meals, secret recipe pasta sauce, and her famous chocolate chip cookies.

Dianne is survived by her husband, Richard; and three children, Cynthia (John) Volkosh, Pamela Embury and Stephen (Christopher) Frocchi. She was the proud Nana to four grandchildren, Sean Albone, Amanda West, Julie (Scott) Drezek and Daniel (Heather) Volkosh. She had 10 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Jameson, Ryinn, Jakob, Marley, Macoy, Olivia, Damien, Noah and Killian.

Her family will pay tribute to her life at a private service held at Cooper Funeral Home in Medina.

Geraldine M. Cook

Geraldine CookGeraldine M. Cook, 92, of Albion, died March 12, 2020 while under the care of Hospice of Orleans at the Martin-Linsin Residence. She was born April 9, 1927 in the Town of Gaines to Roy and Clarice (McOmber) Hill and was a lifetime resident of this area.

Geraldine was a winner of the State Spelling Bee when she was in high school and went on to graduate from Rochester Business Institute. She was a member of the Albion Senior Citizens Group, and she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, crocheting, and especially entertaining her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Cook was predeceased by her husband, Ivan; a daughter, Claire Babcock; and a great-grandson, McCoy Parlier.

She is survived by her son, James Cook of Albion; daughter, Maxine Woolston of Florida; grandchildren, Allan Babcock, Jennifer Jurs, Nick Woolston, Kimberly Thornton, Susan Cook and Michael Cook; 11 great-grandchildren; and a dear friend, Leonard Parlier.

In accordance with the recommendation of the Federal Government, New York State Government and the CDC, there will be no calling hours for Geraldine M. Cook and the funeral service will be private. Interment will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Eugene R. “Gene” Schwarzott Jr., of Medina, passed away on Wed., March 11, 2020 at Buffalo General Hospital after a short illness.

Born on May 19, 1950 in Medina, he was the son of the late Eugene R. and Delores (Livingston) Schwarzott Sr.

Gene worked for three years with the Ogan Kidney Saw Mill while he attended and graduated from Lyndonville High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1970 during the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Coral Sea as a Fuelman. Upon returning home, he married the former Marilyn Kidney on Aug. 3, 1974, and together they raised three children. Gene worked at Harrison Radiator for 30 years and retired in 2005. Gene enjoyed NASCAR truck racing and, along with his wife and family, attended several races at Watkins Glen. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, and spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. At night, Gene would be seen relaxing in front of the TV with his faithful companion, Hunter, on his lap.

Gene is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marilyn; children, Karen (Bob) Smith of Kent, Kellie (Randy) Wilcox of Medina, and Stacy Schwarzott of Medina; grandchildren, Cole Wilcox, Anthony Brown, Evan Wilcox, Avery Wilcox, Abigail Brown and Kyleigh Wilcox; siblings, Richard Schwarzott of Medina, Michael Schwarzott of Charleston, S.C., and Linda Thuman of Medina; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Gene is predeceased by a brother-in-law, Albert Kidney; and a grandson, Aydin McConnell.

Relatives and friends may call on Sun., March 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Bogan & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St., Medina NY 14103, where a funeral service will be held on Mon., March 16 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Bates Road Cemetery, Medina, with full military honors being accorded by members of Butts-Clark American Legion Post #204 and VFW Lincoln Post #1483.

Phyllis J. Albertson, 61, of Albion, died March 12, 2020 in Orchard Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born in Charleston, W.Va. on Feb. 18, 1959, a daughter of Earl and Birdie Marie (Neff) Fitzwater, and she lived in this area her entire life.

She was a member of Albion Bible Baptist Church, and she enjoyed watching TV, listening to music and sitting outside. Phyllis also had a great love for animals.

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Lee; her brothers, David Fitzwater and Randy Fitzwater; her sisters, Ardith Jett, Patricia Jett, Virginia Jett, Judy Mann and Clara Moyer; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Sabrina.

There will no calling hours. Her service and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

Cornelius H. Newton

Cornelius “Neil” H. Newton, of Albion, passed away on March 10, 2020 in the Martin Linsin Hospice Residence.

Neil was born on March 1, 1937 in Rochester, the son of the late Cornelius and Mary (Stack) Newton. He graduated from Albion Central High School in 1957 and served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962 as an SP4. He graduated from RIT with an industrial management degree, and he retired from 3M Corporation after more than 38 years of service.

Neil truly enjoyed his gardening, fishing, hunting and trapping, and he devoted a lifetime of contributions to conservation and outdoor sports. He was a member of the Region 8 Fish and Wildlife Management Board for 20 years. He was active in many organizations. He was past president and member of the Finger Lakes Conservation Council for 35 years, and he was a delegate for the Orleans County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs for more than 30 years and was active in the organization for 63 years. He was a member of the Black North Rod and Gun Club, the St. Mary’s Archery Club, the Albion Fire Department, the NYS Walleye Association, Orleans Veterans, the Crown Victoria Association, a life member of the WNY Volunteer Firemen’s Association, and a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. Neil was a hunter safety instructor who served on the Hunter Education Committee for several years. He was a co-founder of the D.E.C. Walleye Cooperation rearing project and made the necessary arrangements for the project, including securing the essential permits, being a driving force in getting improvements to the boat ramp at Lake Alice, being involved with rearing and stocking the walleye fingerlings, and working with the D.E.C. to secure use and upgrades to the pond for raising the walleye fingerlings. He also took the lead in getting centerfire rifle hunting allowed in Orleans County. Neil was inducted into the New York State Outdoorsman Hall of Fame in April of 2018.

Mr. Newton was predeceased by his brother, John of Wales, Mass.; brother-in-law, Raymond Bruski of Rochester; and son-in-law, Mark Surdi of Greece.

Neil is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy; son, Donald (Dawn) of West Henrietta; daughters, Donna Surdi of Greece and Linda Anderson of Geneseo; grandchildren, Tyler, Garett and Hanna Surdi as well as Alita and Zachary Anderson; his sisters, Betty (Kenneth) Rush and Rita (Richard) Soule of Waterport, and Janet (Thomas) Goulet of Lake Worth, Fla.; brother, David (Sue) Newton of Albion; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion, on Sun., March 15 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Mon., March 16 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph’s Church, 106 S. Main St., Albion, followed by interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Jonathan DeYoungFireman's ShieldJonathan D. DeYoung, 55, of Clarendon, died peacefully on Tue., March 10, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 8, 1965 in Rochester, N.Y., a son of Sharon and the late Richard DeYoung.

Jonathan was a graduate of Holley High School, class of 1983. Jon married the love of his life, Brenda Nichols, on April 8, 1989. Jon was very active in the community and served as a member of the Clarendon Fire Company for 35 years, as chief and in several other positions. Jonathan will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his love of hunting, and also for his dedication and love for family and friends.

Jonathan is survived by his princess of 31 years, Brenda; sons, Jeremy DeYoung, Jonathan “Jr.” (Jessica) DeYoung and Tyler (Emma) DeYoung, all of Clarendon; his mother, Sharon Wolf of Churchville; brothers, Jeffrey DeYoung and James (Jacqueline) DeYoung, both of Clarendon; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Michael Raymond Potrubacz

1964–2020

Michael Raymond Potrubacz passed away on Feb. 10, 2020 due to complications from a stroke.

Michael was born in Medina on March 12, 1964. He graduated in 1982 from Medina High School, where he played lacrosse and was a member of the Medina Mustangs 1981 Niagara-Orleans championship football team. Michael graduated from the College at Brockport, State University of New York, with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 1986 and a Master of Public Administration in 1988. He served for 23 years in the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, retiring as a lieutenant.

He is predeceased by his father, the late Raymond Potrubacz.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Roa) Potrubacz; mother, Reta Potrubacz; sister, Judy; brother, David; many cousins, including Joe Kujawa and Mark Potrubacz; niece, Jessica Cherniss; and nephews, Jay Gonzalez and Jacob Gonzalez.

Carol A. Quincey, 78, of Albion, passed away suddenly on Sun., March 8, 2020. She was born June 12, 1941 in Rochester to the late Frank and Katherine Marszalek.

Carol loved to spend time with friends and to read, often reading a book a day. She had a quirky personality and was always funny.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Richard William Quincey; and her brother, Peter Marszalek.

Carol is survived by her children, Connie (Bob) Diehl, Rick (Lisa) Quincey, Patricia (Kevin) Quincey-Gursslin and James (April Brongo) Quincey; five grandchildren; and extended family and friends.

There will be no calling hours. Richard D. Stockton passed peacefully with his family by his side on Dec. 22, 2019.

He was predeceased by his father, Donn Stockton.

He is survived by his parents, Peggy and Gil Nowak; his brother, Randy; his sisters, Debbie (John) Fracassi and Julie (Ed) Piccirillo; and his nieces and nephews, Jennifer Swan, Alysha Bongiatonni, Matt Fracassi, Emma Piccirillo and Carter Swan.

Richard graduated from Albion High School in the class of 1978. He lived in the area his entire life. He loved his family and the outdoors, especially camping and traveling with his brother, Randy, and his niece, Alysha. He loved people, all genres of music, and the Buffalo Bills.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Fri., April 17 at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 2636 Ridgeway Ave. (between Long Pond Road and Elmgrove Road), Rochester. At 12 p.m., following visitation, funeral services will be held in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will be private.

The family would like to thank Nancy and Connie of UR Medicine Hospice, Monroe Community Hospital, particularly 4 west staff, for their care and compassion. Thomas J. “Junior” Zambito Jr., 83, of Albion, passed away after a short illness on March 9, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born Sept. 9, 1936 in Albion to the late Thomas and Marion Zambito.

Tom worked for 34.5 years as a crane operator for the New York State Department of Canals and was a member of St. Mary’s Archery Club, St. Mary’s Club, Orleans County Vets Club, WNYVFA, and the Albion Fire Department. He enjoyed his monthly casino trips with his wife, and he collected anything and everything he could.

Tom is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Nancy; daughter, Pamela (Peter) Pilon; granddaughters, Jessica (Shaun Castle) Pilon and Mindy (Alex Marcello) Pilon; great-granddaughter, Haven Marcello; sister, Carolyn DelMonte; niece, Shelly; and nephew, Scott.

The family will receive friends on Thu., March 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion NY 14411, where his funeral service will be held Fri., March 13 at 10 a.m. Interment will take place privately at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Albion.

Jill M. Stinson, 58, of Eagle Harbor, entered into rest on Fri., March 6, 2020, resulting from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Born Nov. 25, 1961 in Albion, she was a daughter of Virginia M. (Waugh) Conrad and the late Harold R. Conrad. Jill graduated from Albion High School, class of 1979. She married Robin L. Stinson in 1981. Jill worked for Burgio Tire & Service in Albion, then for Peebles, and was currently employed as a secretary at Orleans County Correctional Facility.

She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Robin Stinson of Eagle Harbor; her two sons, Jake (Stephanie) Stinson of Albion and Joe (Tracy) Stinson of Clermont, Fla.; five grandchildren, Alexis, Amber, Kayden, Camden and Colton Stinson; her mother, Virginia Conrad; brothers, Don Conrad, Dean (Darlene Maxon) Conrad and Frank Conrad; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Tom and Debra Wilson.

Family and friends may call on Sat., March 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where her funeral service will immediately follow at 12 p.m. Interment will be in Otter Creek Cemetery, Gaines.

Jean M. Jozwiak, 89, of Albion, died March 9, 2020 at Elderwood at Williamsville. She was born May 9, 1930 in Albion, a daughter of the late Adam and Gertrude (Chike) Levandowski, and she lived in this area all of her life.

Jean was a member of St. Mary’s Assumption Church in Albion, and she loved to cook and take care of her family.

In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, John; her son, Matthew; her sister, Mary Lou McGaffick; and her brother, Leonard Levandowski.

She is survived by her son, Gene (Pauline) Gunter; daughter-in-law, Vicki Williams; brother, Arthur (Sophie) Levandowski; brother-in-law, Robert McGaffick; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a niece, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at Hartland Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Bob Mathes died suddenly on March 2, 2020.

He was born Dec. 6, 1951 in Albion, the son of Dudley and Margaret (Basinait) Mathes. He was a former engineer, drilling foreman and drilling manager at Amaco.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Brooke Yep.

He is survived by his daughter, Katie (Mathes) Eldred; sons-in-law, Bennie Eldred and Harding Yep; four granddaughters, Jordan and Hayden Yep, Zoey and Adelyn Eldred; six siblings; and many nieces and nephews.

Carolyn L. Boyle

Carolyn BoyleCarolyn L. Boyle, 89, of Medina, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on Sun., March 8, 2020 at The Villages of Orleans in Albion. She was born on Jan. 22, 1931 in Medina, a daughter of the late Frank and Mae (Simonson) Boyle.

Carolyn attended Medina High School and worked various jobs throughout her life. She worked at both Endicott Shoe Company and Baughn’s Shoe Store in Medina, and in the administrative office at Medina Memorial Hospital. She was employed until 2011 as a secretary for St. John’s Episcopal Church, where she was a lifelong member, a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, a lay reader, the church treasurer, and a member of the Altar Guild. She was a lifelong member of the Welcome Rebekah and a past New York State President of the Rebekah’s Assembly.

Carolyn is survived by her brother, Carl (Mary) Boyle of Medina, and was a loving aunt to several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by eight siblings, Lillian Boyle, Florence Rook, Aida Hatch, Marie Conolly, Edna Barnum, David Boyle, Frank Boyle and Arnold Boyle.

As per Carolyn’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside committal will be held at 11 a.m. on Sat., March 21 at Boxwood Cemetery, Route 63, Medina.

Stewart BakerStewart P. Baker, 71, went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2020 at the Medical City Arlington Hospital in Arlington, Texas.

Stewart was born on Feb. 4, 1949 in Medina, a son of the late Graydon S. and Joan E. (Foss) Baker. On July 4, 1985, he married Linda A. Newton of Chittenango, N.Y. The couple made their home in Medina until moving to Arlington, Texas in 2018. He was employed by the United States Postal Service in Medina for 35 years, retiring in 2006. Stewart was a member of the Yates Baptist Church in Lyndonville, where he served as the financial secretary for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of Arlington; son, Paul C. (Meagan) Baker of Arlington; grandson, Graydon J. Baker; brother, Stephen C. Baker of Arlington; brothers-in-law, James (Bonnie) Newton and Daniel (late Theresa) Newton; his aunt, Esther Baker; and uncles, Charles Foss and Robert Foss.

There will be no prior visitation hours. A memorial service will be held at the Mayfield Road Baptist Church in Arlington in the coming weeks. At a later date, a memorial service will be held at the Yates Baptist Church in Lyndonville. Private burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery, Lyndonville.

Paul is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Douglas (Dawn) Wilkins of Aliquippa, Pa.; daughters, Jacqueline Wilkins and Paula (Carl) Creasey of Albion; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Michelle L. Horton

Michelle HortonMichelle Lorraine Horton (Staub), 54, of Albion, went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2020.

Michelle (“Mimi,” “Shell”) was born and raised in Kent and was a 1983 graduate of Albion High School. She was a very strong and courageous woman, having survived a heart attack and breast cancer. Michelle enjoyed coloring, gardening, cooking, and watching the Food Network. The thing she loved the most was spending time with her family, especially her two grandsons.

She was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Laura Romashko.

She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Paul; children, Derek and Lindsay; two beautiful grandsons, Drayden and Adrian; parents, Roberta Evans and William (Glendia) Staub Sr.; siblings, William (Donna) Staub Jr., Rhonda M. Brown, Kimberly (Jason) Bennett, Lee K. Boring, Andrew (Lindsey) Staub and Patricia (Michael) Friedl; father-in-law, David (Shirley) Horton; brother-in-law, Walter (Jody) Romashko; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

Per Michelle’s wishes, there will be no funeral or services. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date at the family’s convenience.

Bambi L. Fearby

Bambi FearbyBambi L. Fearby, 61, of the Town of Shelby, entered into rest on Fri., March 6, 2020 at her home. She was born Feb. 21, 1959 in Medina, a daughter to Jerry R. (Sipple) Boyer and the late John R. Boyer.

She graduated from Medina High School in the class of 1977. She married D. Thomas Fearby on June 19, 1982. Bambi worked for the Orleans County Department of Social Services for many years, after which she was employed as secretary to Orleans County Court Judge, Hon. James P. Punch. Bambi was a talented seamstress in her spare time, and she had a passion for quilting. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, who were very dear to her.

She is survived by her mother, Jerry R. Boyer; her son, Matthew J. Fearby; her daughter, Caitlin (Nic) Elliott; stepson, Donald T. Fearby; beloved grandchildren, Keara L. and Shane M. Fearby, Bailey, Benjamin and Thomas Elliott, and Brandi (Nate) Wilson; sister, Melinda S. Murray; brother, Christopher M. Boyer; and niece, Kyrstin Sponaugle.

She was predeceased by her husband, D. Thomas Fearby, in 2008; and by her father, John Boyer, in 2017.

Calling hours will be held on Thu., March 12 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where her funeral service will be held on Fri., March 13 at 2 p.m. Pastor Erik Olsen will officiate. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery.

Bernadine A. (Axtell) Ross

Bernadine RossBernadine A. Ross, 99, of Barre, passed away March 6, 2020 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born Oct. 30, 1920 in Knowlesville, a daughter of the late Charles and Elma (Jackson) Axtell.

She was a 1940 graduate of Medina High School. Bernadine was a member and past Deacon and Elder of Albion First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #381, Medina Chapter, for 77 years and was a life member of the Cobblestone Society. Bernie and her husband, Donald, owned and operated Albion Plumbing and Heating for several years. On April 25, 1997, Bernadine was awarded the DeWitt Clinton Masonic Award for Community Service (the highest award given to a civilian) in recognition of outstanding service to the community that exemplifies the ancient Masonic teachings of concern for the well-being of mankind, and of belief in the worldwide brotherhood of man.

Bernadine was predeceased by her sisters, Violet Beeton, Mildred Erway and Eloise Lane; her brother, Charles Axtell Jr.; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Helen Pettit.

She is survived by her loving husband of 78 years, Donald B. Ross; daughter, Deborah Onalie Ross; granddaughter, Avery Erin Ross (Matthew Johnson); great-grandsons, Ryan Grier and Lance Corporal Dawson E. Taylor; and great-great-granddaughter, Julianna Marie Grier.

The family will receive friends at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion, on Mon., March 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Tue., March 10 from 12 to 1 p.m., followed by Bernadine’s funeral service at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Boxwood Cemetery.

Alberta Neilans

Alberta NeilansAlberta Neilans, 92, of Albion, passed away following a short illness on March 5, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was a deeply loved wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed by all.

Alberta was a 1945 graduate of Albion High School. She was a member of Albion First Presbyterian Church, and a member and past District Deputy of the Rebekah Lodge. She was a beloved lunch lady at Albion Central School for many years, and she loved animals, flowers and birds.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, in 2002; and by her siblings, Phyllis Wasmund, Ronald Spinks, Charles Spinks, Kathleen Brinkman and Carol Beach.

Alberta is survived by her children, George (Rebecca) Neilans, Fae (Alan) Woodworth, Roy (Joanne) Neilans, Charles Neilans, Scott (Kerri) Neilans and Bruce (Lisa) Neilans; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; special nieces, Brenda West, Kathy Brinkman and Carol Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion, on Sun., March 8 from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by her funeral service at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Interment will be in Mount Albion Cemetery.
