Francis A. Manuel
Francis A. “Frank” Manuel, of Hartland, passed away on Sun., March 22, 2020, after a short illness.
Frank was born on the family farm in Hartland, Dec. 6, 1938, son of the late Salvatore “Sam” and Catherine (Saluzzo) Manuel. He graduated from Roy-Hart schools and lived in the Hartland/Middleport area all of his life.
Frank was employed at Harrison Radiator Division of GM for 30 years. He was always involved with farming, and after retirement he grew potatoes and garlic as his “second career,” running a farm stand on Ridge Road. Frank enjoyed riding Harleys in his younger days and had a story or two that he would proudly share about his “adventures.” He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family, his friends and his spoiled dog (usually a border collie). Frank, with the help of friends and family, built his own home, where he loved to spend time on the patio with his wife, Dona, enjoying the wildlife and watching the garlic grow.
Frank was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Dona; and his sister, Josephine Roberts.
He is survived by his children, Richard (Karen) Manuel, Samuel (Donna) Manuel, and Elizabeth (Michael) Schaal; many nephews and nieces, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several loyal neighbors and great friends, including his best friend, “Jack” Walker, and Jack’s wife, Marilyn.
There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will take place at West Ridgeway Cemetery.
The family suggests that, in lieu of cards or flowers, donations in Frank’s memory may be made to Niagara Hospice.
Arrangements are in the care of Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. Please share memories and condolences at www.cooperfuneralhome.com.

Kay Loraine Schultz
Kay Loraine Schultz took a bow and passed from this world on March 21, 2020 at the age of 75. She was born Jan. 18, 1945 in Corning, N.Y., a daughter of the late Carl and Edith Gurnsey.
Those who knew her describe Kay as a feisty, funny, and fiercely loving woman. She was a bright spark, with a big, joyful laugh and a fondness for irreverent jokes. Kay was a wonderful wife, mother and friend – she often “didn’t know what to tell you” when you were upset or worried, but was always there to listen and to offer sound advice. At home or at work over her many years of service at the Orleans County Probation Department and Ames Department Store, Kay wasn’t afraid to speak her mind – and there’s a good chance that she was the most stubborn person you would ever meet in your life. She was an avid reader, a restorer of furniture, a lover of gardening, a frequenter of garage sales, and a proud member of the Albion High School Class of 1963. She was the first to know the best gossip, and somehow she could always soothe even the crankiest of babies. Kay loved a good party – especially if she was the one planning it! Kay perfected her first husband’s mother’s meatballs until she could make them as if she had been born Italian – and she always brought the macaroni salad to the potluck. Kay was a self-proclaimed and unapologetically proud “crazy cat lady.”
Kay is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Duane Schultz; sons, Chris Finney, Christopher (Chelsea H.) Schultz, and Nicholas (Aimee) Schultz; daughters, Stephanie (Aaron) Levene, Jodi (Mike) Schultz-Waild, and Karen (Bill) McDonald; grandchildren, Austin, Tarin, Keith, Victoria and Zoe; sister and best friend, Marilyn Rouse; dear brother, Carl (Carolyn) Gurnsey; all her incredible nieces and nephews; and last but certainly not least, her cats – Raj, Sylvie, Stanley, Gigi, Fifi and Lizzie.
Kay’s last wish was that no service be held. Instead, in keeping with her personality, she has requested a party be thrown in her honor. To ensure the health and safety of family and others, details will follow later this year.
Memorial contributions in Kay’s name may be made to a charity of choice.
Kay’s arrangements have been entrusted to Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport NY 14105. To share a special memory of Kay, please visit www.mitchellfamilyfuneralhomes.com.
