Patricia A. Ranallo, of Medina, passed away surrounded by her family on Sun., Sept. 12, 2021.

Born Oct. 9, 1942 in Newfane, Pat was a daughter of the late Frank N. Stupnick and Grace M. (Parrow) Blauvelt and stepfather, Daryl Blauvelt. She married Frank S. Ranallo, Sr. on Nov. 14, 1964. Pat held numerous jobs over the years, but her favorite was working for a company owned by her daughter, Pam and friends, who became like family to her. Pat loved country music, especially Johnny Cash, and loved to write poems about life that she called ‘simple thoughts from a simple mind.’ Her poems have been and will continue to be enjoyed by many. Pat was a very generous person. If you ever received an anonymous gift, there is a good chance it was from her. Pat was a very proud mother and grandmother. The thing she will be remembered for most is her sharp wit and incredible sense of humor. She made everyone laugh.

Pat was predeceased by her son, Frank S. Ranallo, Jr.; and her sister, Theresa Wallis.

Survivors include her husband, Frank S. Ranallo, Sr. of Medina; daughters: Sandra (Barb Duckworth) Ranallo of Rochester, Pamela (Jim Cunningham) Ranallo of Boulder, Colo. and Christine (Mike Cassidy) Ranallo of Kent; grandson, Frank S. Ranallo III; former daughter-in-law, Tracy Ranallo; brother, Francis “Butch” (Patricia) Stupnick; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Fri., Sept. 17 starting at 4 p.m. at the Junior Wilson Sportsman’s Club, 3875 Bates Rd., Medina, NY 14103. Private interment will be in Millville Cemetery, Shelby. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Knights-Kaderli Memorial Fund, PO Box 684, Medina, NY 14103.

Charles Derwick, 81, of Venice, Fla. passed away on Aug. 19, 2021, after succumbing to ALS. He was born on Sept. 5, 1939, to Waldo and Edna Derwick in Albion, NY. Charles graduated from Albion High School and SUNY College at Geneseo. He was most proud of being inducted into the sport’s hall of fame at both schools. After two years of teaching, Charles became a State Farm Insurance Agent in Olean, NY. While there he was active in the community, serving as President of the Olean Exchange Club and Bartlett Country Club.

Charles retired in 2000 and enjoyed playing golf at Pelican Pointe in Venice, Fla., where he resided with his surviving wife, Julie. He is also survived by his two sons: Scott of Olean, NY and Sean of Port Orange, Fla.; stepdaughters: Suzanne and Vanessa of PA; brother, Gary of Waterport, NY; sister, Donna Harms of Boca Grande, Fla., and grandchildren: Alex, Hannah, Liyah, Chris, and Henry “Hank.” He was dearly loved and will be missed by all.

James L. Werth, 72, passed away on Fri., Sept. 10, 2021 at his home. Jim was born on Nov. 20, 1948, a son of the late Wilber W. and Katherine I. Ruck Werth.

Robert L. Wolfe, entered into rest Fri., Sept. 10 2021 at his home in Medina, NY. Robert was born on June 15, 1931 in Middleport, a son of the late Lewis and Alice (Bates) Wolfe.

Robert spent his childhood in Lyndonville and graduated from Lyndonville High School, class of 1949. Honorably discharged from an Army enlistment in 1951, Robert enjoyed working at the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, and continued working for Harrison’s Radiator until his retirement in 1993.

Robert was a hunter and loved to canoe and fish. Also an avid motorcyclist spending many hours of his life on his Harley. He was a book reader who enjoyed military history and Louis L’Amour western novels. Robert was known to have a warm smile, pleasant laugh and a keen sense of humor. There was no greater joy than sharing conversation, an amusing story and a cold beer with him. His family and many friends will remember him as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dear friend.

Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Olive (Foreman) Wolfe on July 12, 2004, and grandson Paul Robert Wolfe on February 28, 2021. Together in the years he enjoyed with Olive, they grew branches on a family tree that provided Robert with shade, love and comfort the rest of his life.

He is survived by three sons, Paul L. and Harriet (Harrington) Wolfe of Holley; David E. Wolfe of Medina and Richard M. (Terry) Wolfe of Medina; ten grandchildren, Jessica Wolfe and James Wolfe, Timothy Pearson and Autumn Wolfe, Thomas Lasher, Renee Lasher, Jerald Lasher and Paul Lasher, Bradley Bosgraaf and Richard Wolfe Jr.; as well as fourteen great-grandchildren. Robert is also survived by Suzanne Bigalow, a beloved and cherished companion who provided a loving home and precious moments in their last times together.

A graveside service will be held on Thu., Sept. 16 at 12 p.m. at West Ridgeway Cemetery, Ridgeway, Medina. Beverly J Schutt of Albion, NY passed away on Fri., Sept. 10, 2021 at Mount Saint Mary’s hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 2, 1934 in the town of Ridgeway to the late Ernest and Marie (Burch) Waterson.

Beverly attended Lyndonville High School. In 1957 she married Robert Schutt and they made their home in Medina raising two loving sons. Beverly worked various factory jobs throughout her life, eventually retiring from Ontario Foods in 1996. Beverly was a member of the Apple-pushers camping club enjoying camping with friends and sitting on her back patio listening to nature with her dogs by her side. Beverly was predeceased by grandson Scott Schutt, and sister Vivian Pietroboni.

Beverly is survived by her husband, Robert; sons, Edward (Suzanne) Schutt of Albion and Louis (Patricia) Schutt of Medina; grandchildren, Amanda (Justin) Dixon of Albion and Amy Schutt of Medina; 5 great-grandchildren and sisters Velma (Dick) Chichocki and Kay Hare.

There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend her memorial service on Sat., Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. in the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion. Michael F. “Mike” Moriarty, 69, of Medina, died on Tue., Sept. 7, 2021 following a brief illness. Born June 8, 1952, Mike was the son of Francis E. Moriarty and Betty A. (Wright) Moriarty.

He was a 1970 graduate of Medina High School. Mike served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era aboard the USS Little Rock and USS Dewey from 1971-1975.  He was employed by Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable) from 1984-2018, retiring as a Sr. Digital Electronics Headend Technician. He was very passionate about his work and a mentor to many of his co-workers. An avid amateur radio operator (WZ2MM), Mike was an active member of the Orleans County Amateur Radio Club.

He was a tenacious, talented and accomplished home renovator. Mike enjoyed music and performed as a singer during the late 1960s through the 1980s and thoroughly enjoyed singing the music of crooners such as Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. He was a hard-working individual with an amazing work ethic. Michael was a reliable, loving and caring son, brother, husband, father and friend with a wonderful, happy and fun-loving spirit.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Wendy A. Moriarty; children, Kelly A. Moriarty of Medina, Michael E. (Angela) Moriarty of Medina and Margaret A. “Maggie” (Saul Cruz) Moriarty of Boston, MA; sisters, Patricia Harmer and Margaret “Molly” (Scott) Pritchard of Medina; grandchildren, Izaiah Rhim, Jarin Rhim, Riley Black, Vincent and Dominic Moriarty; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers in-law, close friends and workmates.

MEDINA – Joyce E. Wilson, entered into rest unexpectedly on Thu., Sept. 9, 2021 at her home. Joyce was born on May 30, 1936 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Franklin and Velma (Baubie) Kenward.

A graduate of Medina High School, class of 1954, she went on to attend Bryant and Stratton College. Joyce married her high school sweetheart, Robert L. “Pinky” Wilson in 1955.

She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Botsford-Hartway Motors in Medina. Joyce was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, St. Mary’s Church in Medina. She was also a social member of the Lincoln Post 1483, VFW, Junior Wilson Sportsmen’s Club, Knights of Columbus and Shelridge Country Club. She was an avid reader and was very grateful for the resources and employees at the Lee-Whedon Memorial Library, who eagerly kept her supplied with the most recent best-selling novels.

Whether it was football, wrestling, baseball or basketball, Joyce was an avid sports fan.  She enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren at various sporting events and also was a fan of the NY Yankees and the Cleveland Browns. Joyce was a great cook who enjoyed and took great pride in making large meals at holiday gatherings. She also enjoyed dining out, especially Cammarata’s in Lockport and Shelridge Country Club.

A social person by nature, Joyce was known for her warm smile, laugh and inviting personality. She loved to host her friends and family, usually on her front porch for a manhattan (or two). She always made it known how grateful she was to have so many loving and supportive friends, a blessing to her, especially after the passing of her husband Pinky in 2017. Her family and many friends will remember her as a loving mother, grandmother and dear friend.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Pinky Wilson on September 29, 2017 and her son, Paul Wilson on September 13, 2015.

She is survived by two sons, Jeff Wilson of Medina and Tom (Deb Balcerzak) Wilson of Westborough, MA; five grandchildren, Sean (Stephanie) Maroney, Kyle (Laura) Maroney, Michael (Sarah) Scholes, Jacob Wilson and Brad Wilson; eight great-grandchildren, Lucie and Liam Scholes, Harper, Cooper, Graham, Teddy, Aidan and Brooke Maroney; her sister, Joanne Gardner; nieces, nephews and many friends, including Jill Pegelow, who watched over and took great care of Joyce in the last few years.

There will be no prior calling hours. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 14th at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church, 211 Eagle St., Medina. Masks will be mandatory at the church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Geary Shenck, 89, of Clarendon passed away suddenly Sept. 8, 2021.  Geary was born April 2, 1932 in PA., a son of the late Clarence and Ruth (Saylor) Shenck.  Geary was a resident of Gates, NY before moving to Clarendon.  

Geary was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Church in Holley.  Mr. Shenck was a farmer in Clarendon and at the same time a Milk Man in Gates.  When Geary wasn’t farming, he was Town of Clarendon Supervisor, Town of Clarendon Constable and Orleans County Animal Control Officer, retiring in 1997.  He is also known for his large collection of antiques and writing a monthly article in the Town of Clarendon Gazette “Tid Bits” by Geary “Moose” Shenck.  Geary will be remembered for his love of family, his strong faith and his banter. 

 Geary is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marjorie; children: Mary (Jeff) Moscicki, Marjorie (Joel) Underwood, Patricia Spychalski, Catherine (Will) Reynolds, Geary Shenck Jr., Edward (Yvette) Shenck and Peter (Sarah) Shenck; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Zona Landis and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bruce E. Humphrey, 73, of Batavia, NY, passed away on Wed., Sept. 8, 2021 at the Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing in Batavia.

Born on Dec. 20, 1947 in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of the late Cecil H. and Clara B. (Radder) Humphrey.

Bruce graduated from Barker High School in 1966 and attended Niagara Community College and then received his Bachelor Degree in Accounting from Empire State College. On July 26, 1975 he married the former Judy Newton. Bruce worked as a Comptroller for the Newton Falls Paper Mill in the Adirondacks. After their closing, he moved back to the western New York and was employed as an Auditor for Baker, Shore & Dilorenzo of Lockport until he retired in 2010. Bruce was a diehard Yankee’s and Buffalo Bills fan and in his spare time listened to classic rock. He also enjoyed having happy hour with family and friends and also a good game of euchre and poker.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Judy; three children: Philip (Ann) MacDonald Jr. of Greenville, SC, Stefanie (John) Starkweather of E. Bethany, NY, Jennifer (Andre) White of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren: Jorden, Tyler, Jarrett, Phoenix, Ryder; and a great-granddaughter, Ava.

Roy Roger Schumacher, 78, of Brockport, formerly of Gasport, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sept. 7, 2021. He was born May 18, 1943 in Hume, NY to the late Henry and Pearl (Morgan) Schumacher.

Roy was proud to have visited all 50 States with his wife Carolyn. Together they enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, and camping. Roy was a family man who adored his grandchildren dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings: Judy (Earl) Weaver, Robert, Duane; grandson Roger; fathers-in-law, Helmuth Remus and Peter Austin; and sister-in-law, Barbara (Jerry) Donaldson.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carolyn; children: Roy Jason (Angela), Alison (Terry) Schleede, Carl (Beth), Brian (Jessica), 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, siblings: Allan, Paul (Linda); sister-in-law, Jane Schumacher; mother-in-law, Alice Remus; brothers-in-law: Robert (Maurean) Austin, David (Cindy) Remus, Richard (Barbara) Remus; sister-in-law, Valorie (Tony) Ellis; aunt, Linda Boyatzies; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lawrence Robert O’Shea, Jr., 79, of Middleport passed away Sept. 5, 2021. He was born May 29, 1942 in Buffalo to the late Lawrence Robert O’Shea, Sr. and Dorothy Rose O’Shea.

Mr. O’Shea was always tinkering on anything mechanical, especially his classic cars. He as a jack of all trades and if he didn’t know how to do something he would find a way to make it work. He enjoyed listening to music and was fond of Elvis Presley and Bob Segar. He was always available to help family, friends and neighbors when in need.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Katherine “Kitty,” sister Dolly, and brother Eugene.

Mr. O’Shea in survived by his children: Lawrence (Julia) O’Shea III, Mark O’Shea, Leslie O’Shea; step-children: John, Jason and Jamie, several beloved grandchildren; sisters: Rosanne (Late Calvin) Woodruff, Jonie McPherson; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

MEDINA – Virginia B. Phillips, 94, of Medina, NY, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021, at the Medina Memorial Hospital with her loving family at her side. Born on March 22, 1927 in the Town of Ridgeway, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Charlotte (Crowley) Albone.

Virginia graduated from Medina High School in 1945. In 1949, she married the late David Phillips and they made their home in Medina, raising two loving children. Virginia worked as a clerk for various retail stores and for the former Heinz Co., retiring from Harrison Radiator in 1991. She was a lifetime communicant of St. Mary’s Church and was very active at the former Moose Club. In her spare time, Virginia enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Karen Hale; grandchildren, Daniel (Pam) Reigle, Katherine (Daniel) May, Timothy (Cheryl) Reigle, Michelle (Dennis) Wright, Jeremy (Angie) Phillips and Roger (Nichole) Phillips Jr. Also surviving are several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband David, Virginia is predeceased by a son, Roger Phillips Sr., five siblings, John, Joseph, Lewis, and Victor Albone and Rose Larnder and a great-granddaughter, Madeline Rose May.

Edward L. “Grandpa” “Pops” Stymus, 86, of Albion passed away Sept. 2, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. He was born March 9, 1935 in Barre to the late Albert and Berladine (Draper) Stymus.

Grandpa enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially farming.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Esther in 2012; daughter, Arlene Dunn; siblings: Gordon, Floyd, Gladys Drought, Eleanor Krowl, Velma Wood. Grandpa is survived by his son, Dennis (Suzanne) Stymus; grandchildren: Cody (Jessica), Trever, Ryan, Brianne, Cameo; great-grandchildren: Parker and Caison, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services for Grandpa will be held privately and at the family’s convenience.

Stephen P. Lane, 78, of Portage, Pa. died Aug. 31, 2021 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Steve was born Aug. 3, 1943 in Rochester NY, the son of Amos and Marion (Walters) Lane.

Preceded in death by his parents, and brothers: Donald and Charles. Survived by his wife of 41 years the former, Ruth L. Shaw; children: Shawn (Donna) of Angier, NC; Michele Frank) Maniaci of Batavia NY; Patrick (Debra) of Byron, NY; stepson, Steven McAllister of Huntington, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother of: Beverly Brennan of Brockport, NY; Judy Lane of Holley, NY; and Richard Lane of Clarendon, NY.

Steve was a member of Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Johnstown, past member of Portage Boro Council.

Keith W. Newman, 94, of Lyndonville, entered into rest peacefully on Wed., Sept. 1, 2021 at the Niagara Hospice House in Lockport.

Born June 19, 1927 in Lyndonville, he was a son of the late David and Ruth (Peters) Newman. Mr. Newman served in the U.S. Navy from April 10, 1945 – July 31, 1946. He married the former Muriel N. Smith on July 15, 1950 and together raised two children. Known for his hard work ethic, Mr. Newman worked for various fruit farms in the Lyndonville area. When not working, he enjoyed keeping up on yardwork and took pride in tending to his flower gardens.

He was recently predeceased by his son, Keith D. Newman on Aug. 25, 2021; brother, George (Myrtle) Newman; and sister, Shirley (Charles) Heideman.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 71 years, Muriel N. Newman; daughter, Susan (Anthony) Fiasco of Middleport; daughter in-law, Tina Newman of GA; grandchildren: Aaron Newman, Valerie (Travis) Brasseur, Danielle (Justin) Seefeldt, Joshua (Sara) Fiasco and Jakob Fiasco; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice (Walter) Crutts; sisters in-law: Patricia (Gary) Suzanne and Carol Beeby; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside committal service will be held on Wed., Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. in Hartland Central Cemetery, Gasport. Joan L. Quackenbush, 78, of Medina, NY, entered into rest on Sun., Aug. 29, 2021 at the United Memorial Hospital, Batavia, with her loving family at her side.

Born on Jan. 2, 1943 in Cortland, NY, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Caroline (Tighe) Gilbert.

Joan grew up in Rochester and moved to the Orleans County area and attended Lyndonville High School.

Joan had a strong business sense and was always self-employed. She owned various businesses, including: J & J Coffee Shop in Middleport and the Knowlesville Inn. She enjoyed puzzles, animals and lying in the sun, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Joan is survived by six children: Kelly Wells, Cheryl Wells, Todd Wells, David Wells Jr. Mark Wells and Joanie (Jeff) Allen. Also survived are 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Shirley Bruski and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joan is predeceased by an infant son, Jamie; sister, Gloria Dix; brother, John Gilbert; granddaughter, Khyleigh Wenner; and great-nephew, Brandon Bruski.

Richard D. “Dick” Genet, 88, of Gasport entered into eternal rest on Aug. 31, 2021.  He was the son of the late John “Otto” and Ethel Genet.

He is survived by his wife, Joan (Winner) Genet; children: Deb Genet (Beth Tiefel), Richard D. Genet, Jr., Susan (Edward) Soos; grandchildren: Richard D. (Aurora) Genet III, Kristina Genet, Richie Ruppel; great grandchildren: Bradley, Mason, Nevaeh, Ava, Landyn, Abby, Ana, Bella, Addyson; siblings: the late Doris (Earl) Gunby, Robert Genet, John (Carol) Genet; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Per Richard’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private celebration of Richard’s life will be arranged at a later date by the family.
