Lorraine Martha Noreck, 96, of Ocala, Fla. went to be with the Lord on Mon., Oct. 11, 2021 at Brandley Hospice House in Summerfield, Fla.

Born Nov. 1, 1924 in Albion, NY, a daughter of the late Casimer and Martha (Furmanski) Stucko. She graduated from Albion High School in 1943. Lorraine moved to Ocala, Fla. in 1985 after retiring from the New York State Dept of Corrections as a Sargent with 25 years of service. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing, bingo and gambling trips to Las Vegas and Conn., quilling and the Chinese art of Bunka. Most recently she enjoyed baseball and her favorite team, the Tampa Bay Rays.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband John J. Noreck in 1959. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Kathleen (Carl) Ziegler, Lithia, Fla., Lynne (Stephen) Ricci, Ocala, Fla. and Jeffrey (Jeanne) VanNostrand, Batavia, NY; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; sister, Charlotte (Robert) Monacelli and her son Alan (Michelle) Monacelli of North Port, Fla. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is a longtime member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Candler, Fla., New York State Retired Public Employees Assoc., Silver Spring Shores Social Club and Immaculate Heart of Mary’s Women’s Club.

Harry E. Lonnen Sr., 80 of Bergen, passed away on Sun., Oct. 17, 2021 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. He was born July 11, 1941 in Medina, to the late Walter W. and Saloma J. (Seeley) Lonnen. He is preceded in death by two brothers Delbert and William “Billy” Lonnen.

Mr. Lonnen was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. He was still working at GCASA in Batavia. Harry was always willing to help anyone do anything, he especially enjoyed working with other Veterans. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, even when they weren’t winning.

He is survived by his children: Harry Lonnen Jr. of KY, Carrie (Doug) Teeter of Rochester, Christine (Harold) Ertel of Bergen, Jeffrey (Kristen) Lonnen of Wyoming, NY; siblings: George (Cindy) Lonnen, Rosie (Ernie) Stephens, Kenneth (Linda) Lonnen, Leona Quackenbush, Alice Klatt-Miller, MaryAnn (John) Buckland; 9 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Carl L. Gurnsey, 82, of Albion passed away suddenly at Strong Memorial Hospital on Oct. 17, 2021. Born Dec. 21, 1938 to Carl L. and Edith (Morse) Gurnsey in Corning, NY.

Carl attended schools in Gates and Spencerport, and graduated from Albion High School with the class of 1957. After his school years, he joined the U.S. Army and spent most of his three years in Fort Mommouth, NJ. After honorable discharge from the Army, Carl was employed at T.J. Lipton until 1962 and then Eastman Kodak until retiring in 1991. After acquiring his CDL License at BOCES in Batavia, Carl drove school bus for Albion Central School, Medina Central School and also for a short time in Florida. Carl loved his children, grandchildren, and family. He was very fond of baseball, bowling and his pets, especially his Jack Russell, Jack. Carl was a long-time member of the Elks BPOE Lodge #2110, Brockport. He respectfully served as Exalted Ruler in 2000. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and St. Mary’s Club.

Carl was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Edith Gurnsey; sister, Kay Schults; granddaughter, Tiara Fugate; and son, Philip L. Gurnsey.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn (Dawson) Gurnsey; son, Randy (Nina) Gurnsey; daughters: Sandra (Marvin) Dawley, and Suzanne (Todd Grimes) Fugate, all of Albion; sister, Marilyn Rouse; brother-in-law, Art Beach; sister-in-law, Pat Beach, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc.. 21 West Ave. Albion, NY 14411 on Sat., Oct. 30 from 12-2 p.m. where his funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. The family encourages those in attendance to please wear a mask. GASPORT – Lucille M. Crafts, 98, died Oct. 17, 2021 in Niagara Hospice following a brief illness. She was born February 11, 1923 in the Town of Hartland to Kenneth and Hazel (Rising) Hawley and was a life-long resident of this area.

Lucille was a faithful member of Covenant United Church of Christ, and was a person who loved to be in the surroundings of her home, whether it be playing cards, decorating for the seasons, or enjoying watching the hummingbirds. She also enjoyed going shopping and out to lunch but most of all, Lucille loved being surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Crafts was predeceased by her husband, Milton; daughter, Deborah Lou; grandson, Jeffrey Crafts; brothers, Belmont and Roger Hawley; and her dear companion, Bill Vary.

She is survived by her son, Marshall Crafts of Spencerport; daughters, Bonnie (Allan Schumacher) Snaith of Gasport, Pam (James) Bugenhagen of Gasport; other close family members, Carol, Sue and Barb; grandchildren, Mark Crafts, Jill (Rick) Schafer, Dean (Lisa Marie) Bugenhagen, Lisa Bugenhagen, Scot (Sharon) Snaith and Kim (Daniel) McDonell; several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

MEDINA – Francis Michael DiCureia, 66, of Medina, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021 with family by his side. Born May 24, 1955 in Medina, he was a son of the late Dominic and Dorothy (Westcott) DiCureia.

Frank was a graduate of Medina High School class of 1973. After high school he went directly into the work force, eventually retiring from Delphi in Lockport. Frank, or “Fast” as most of his friends called him, enjoyed spending time with his family and watching the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees.

Frank was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Joseph DiCureia.

He is survived by his son, Nicholas (Wendy) DiCureia; grandchildren, Frankie and Lucy DiCureia; step-grandchildren, Hailee and Cooper; brothers, David DiCureia and Peter DiCureia; an uncle, Dick (Vonda) Westcott; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23rd at 10 a.m. at the East Shelby Community Bible Church, 5278 E. Shelby Rd., Medina. Interment will be in the East Shelby Cemetery.

LYNDONVILLE – Carol M. Smith-Beeby of Lyndonville passed away peacefully at the age of 78, with loved ones by her side, on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo after a hard fought battle with acute myeloid leukemia.

Born August 3, 1943 in Lockport, Carol was a Wednesday’s child. She always laughed because her birth interrupted her mama Bessie’s lunch. Carol was a daughter of the late Perry Livingston Joseph Smith and Bessie June (Collins) Smith. She grew up in Lyndonville on a dairy farm on Marshall Road and graduated from Lyndonville High School. The family also lived in Norfolk, VA for a time, where she attended the Princess Ann high School, the place where she would meet the love of her life, Joel F. Beeby.

The couple was married on January 1, 1965. Baptized in 1979, Carol was an endowed member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She attended the Medina branch and then the Lockport ward, where she was an active member and taught in Primary for many years. She worked for Fisher-Price Toys in Medina and also for ABCD Daycare in Medina and then in Holley.

Carol loved her family and believed that families could be together forever. She enjoyed doing genealogy and working in the temple. Being of Native American lineage, Carol’s Native American name was “Running Bear.” She took a great pride and interest in her indigenous culture and heritage. Carol held a soft spot in her heart for all of nature, especially cats. Her fur-babies Buddy, Xion, Baby Yoda, Tigger, Toby and Fred aka Little One.

Carol was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joel Beeby in 2008 and seven siblings, Harold (Pat) Smith, Edwin (Beverly) Smith, Marylou (Richard) Smith Rupple, Robert (Barbara & Carol) Smith, Wally-A. Smith and Sally Kubatek.

Left to cherish her memory are her stepson, Robert (Jennifer) Beeby-Cook; daughters, Joanne (Tony) Martinez and Jeannie (Mark) Beeby-McNeil; eleven grandchildren, Joel (Autumn) Martinez, Jami Martinez, Courtney McNeil, Jodi (Tyler) Schook, Carrie Ann (Jake) Covert, Tony Martinez, Jr., Caitlyn McNeil, Toby Martinez, Tadd Martinez, Conner McNeil and Colleen Joelle McNeil; one great-granddaughter, Sophie Schook; two sisters, Muriel (late Keith) Newman and Patricia (Gary) Suzanne; brother in-law, Richard Kubatek; sister in-law, Jenny Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23rd from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. Her funeral service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 24th at 2 p.m. with viewing prior to the service from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 6339 Hamm Rd., Lockport, NY 14094. Masks will be mandatory. Interment will be in Hartland Central Cemetery on Monday, Oct. 25th at noon.

MEDINA – John D. Merriman, 73, of Medina entered into rest on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at his home.

Born September 20, 1948, in Utica, NY, John was a son of the late Samuel and Amy (King) Merriman. He worked as an electrician at FMC in Middleport for many years.

MEDINA – Linda L. Reigle, 66, passed away peacefully October 13, 2021 in Unity Hospital following a brief illness. She was born November 8, 1954 in Batavia to James and Dolores (Dennany) Shultz and had lived in this area most of her life.

Linda worked as a Line Inspector for BMP in Medina for many years and in her spare time, she loved to work with her hands making crafts of all kinds. She particularly enjoyed birdwatching while making her crafts. She and her late husband had a strong, mutual love for each other…one taking care of the other when ill and sharing in the joys of life when they weren’t.

Linda was a loving, caring wife, caregiver, mother, grandmother and sister. Above all, she was an amazing Grandma cherishing every moment spent with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Reigle was predeceased by her husband Richard, a daughter Rebecca and a sister Janet Brien.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Smith of VA; brothers, David Shultz of LeRoy and James (Margaret) Shultz of Medina; sister, Michele (Quentin) Ludlam of LeRoy; and her beloved grandchildren, Madelyn Rebecca Smith and Hailey Elizabeth Smith.

EAST SHELBY – LaVerne H. “Jiggs” Green, Jr., 88, of  East Shelby, entered into rest on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Orchard Manor Nursing Home. Born May 28, 1933 in Oakfield, he was a son of the late LaVerne H. (Maie) Green, Sr. and Grace M. (Lawrence) Caleb.

Jiggs served in the New York State Army National Guard from 1949-1969 as a mechanic and earning the rank of Master Sargent. He was employed as a construction supervisor for Agway from 1969-1994. Active in his community, Jiggs was a charter member of the East Shelby Volunteer Fire Co. and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Green; daughter, Barb Keller; and sister, Comfort Caldwell.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Audra Schutt; daughters, Rebecca (Joseph) Fruehauf and Brenda (Marvin Moyer) Frasier; stepdaughters, Rebecca (Phil) Gang and Kathie (Phil) Zirretta; grandchildren, Adam (Ayoma) Keller, Christopher (Laura) Keller, Jenna Keller, Laura (Adam) Bruton, Amanda (Pete Zamniak) Fruehauf, Elizabeth (Tom) Webster, Dale (Lindsay) Frasier and Bruce (Amber) Frasier; and ten great-grandchildren; sister, Debra Green; brother in-law, Floyd Caldwell; and several nieces and nephews.

Donna W. DeFilipps, of Clarendon, passed away suddenly on Oct. 12, 2021. She was born May 10, 1956 in Brockport.  

Donna was a graduate of Holley High School class of 1974. She owned DeFilipps Grocery & Deli in Clarendon for many years. She was a life member of the Clarendon Historical Society and Concordia Lutheran Church/Hope Church. Donna enjoyed entertaining at the cottage on the lake and spending time with her children in Naples, Fla. 

She was predeceased by her father, Bruce Wohlers. 

She is survived by her husband, E. John DeFilipps; son, Todd and daughter, Stacy DeFilipps; mother Eileen Wohlers; siblings: Carol (Joe) Shatraw, Krista (Ken) Laureno, Eric (Cheryl) Wohlers, Lisa (Rick) Fiorito; and many nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth “Betty” Kirby, 96, of Albion passed away peacefully Oct. 11, 2021 at the Martin Linsen Hospice Residence.  She was born Aug. 31, 1925 in Rochester, NY, a daughter of the late Harry and Ann (Mitchell) Rock.

Betty was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph’s Church.

She was predeceased by her husband John; daughter, Roxanne; brothers, Harold and Jack Rock; sister, Jeanne Cole.  Betty is survived by her children: David Kirby, Douglas (Karen) Kirby, Christine (Michael) Pettinato and Susan Kirby; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Betty’s mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph’s Church, W. Sandra L. Lenhard, 77, of Shamokin Dam passed away on Sat., Oct. 9 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

She was born July 31, 1944 in Hornell, NY, a daughter of the late A. Kenneth and Virginia (Keppen) Hinkley. On June 25, 1966 she married James E. Lenhard who preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1992. She is also preceded in death by a son Anthony Lenhard on Nov. 28, 1985.

Sandra was a graduate of Albion High School in New York.

She was a member of the Shamokin Dam United Methodist Church where she contributed to many church functions.

Sandra loved crocheting and baking, especially her out of this world sticky buns. She enjoyed traveling to New York to visit her family. Sandra enjoyed sitting on her porch crocheting, going for walks, making crafts, and loved lighthouses. The joy in Sandra’s life was her grand and great-grandchildren whom she adored.

She is survived by a daughter, Theresa Lenhard; son, Tom (Yvonne) Lenhard; daughter, Donna Lenhard and her companion Todd Cragle; and daughter, Cathy Lenhard; three grandchildren: Danielle Dressler, Bradley Delawder, and Andrew Lenhard; six great-grandchildren: Blake Dressler, Gabe Stahl, Severin Ramor, Chase, Bri, and Natalie; three brothers: Randy, Chester, and Donny Hinkley all of Albion, NY; one sister, Melinda Scott of Brockport, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sandra was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronny, Roger, and Rodney Hinkley.

Family and friends will be received from 1-2 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 16 at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove followed by the funeral service at 2 with Pastor Earl Burkholder officiating.

Burial will be held on Oct. 30 in Mount Albion Cemetery, Albion, NY.

Dennis E. “Denny” Strawcutter, 75, of Lyndonville, NY, went to be with the Lord on Mon., Oct. 11, 2021 at his home, with his loving family at his side.

Born on Nov. 3, 1945, in Clearfield, PA, he was the son of the late Gerald and Elizabeth (Bracken) Strawcutter.

Dennis grew up in Pennsylvania and then moved to San Angelo, Texas, where he lived most of his life. He later moved to the Medina/Lyndonville area in 2003 to be with his family. Dennis was employed as a Machinist with the former BernzOmatic, until illness forced his retirement. He was obsessed with fishing and was a diehard Steelers and Yankees fan, but most of all he enjoyed singing and playing his guitar for family and friends.

Dennis is survived by four daughters: Jewel (Russ) Strawcutter, Shelcy (Brian) Plueckhahn, Terri Wojtasiak, Janet Underwood; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four siblings: Mel (Betty) Strawcutter, Scott Strawcutter, Pamela Thurston, and Kathy Frontino. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and a very special niece, Gina Mattice.

Besides his parents, Dennis is predeceased by his siblings: James and Michael Strawcutter, Vikki Mattice; a son-in-law, Joe Wojtasiak; and a grandson, Demitrios Alexandris.

Eleanor B. Whipple passed away on Sun., Oct. 10, 2021 at Supportive Care of Orleans at the age of 97.

Born on Dec. 10, 1923 in Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Bernard Holbrook Bailey and Beatrice Eleanor Phinney.

Eleanor’s education began at Islington Grammar School from 1929 to 1939, then she attended Dedham High School MA and from 1937 to 1941 she attended college at Oberlin in Ohio.  She married the late Robert Whipple and together they raised four children. She continued her education at SUNY of Brockport and in 1963 she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.  Eleanor then went on to teach 5th grade at Lyndonville Elementary for a number of years.  Eleanor was a lifelong member of the Lyndonville United Methodist and at one time was a Sunday School Teacher.  Eleanor took pride in her community by volunteering as a Twig at the Medina Memorial Hospital for many years and also was a member of the board at Hospice, serving as Secretary and was on the board of the Lyndonville Area Foundation. She also volunteered on the ARC Endowment Committee. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, reading, bowling, and crafting quilts and wall hangings. She was an avid walker and could be seen walking around Lyndonville on almost a daily basis.

Eleanor is survived by her four children: Marsha Nitzsche, John (Brenda) Whipple, Julia Watts Bacon, and Laura (John) Belson. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her siblings: Bernard H. Bailey Jr. and Katherine Johnson; and her dear friend, Frank Housel.

ALBION – Kelly Sidari Ricker, May 18, 1971 – October 10, 2021, passed away at Martin Linsin Residence in Albion surrounded by her loving family.

Kelly was a 1989 graduate of Albion High School. Kelly served Albion Central School for 30-plus years as a lifeguard and lately as assistant swim coach.

She was very active as a Girl Scout, a leader, and Division Chairman. She was an avid crafter, dancer and kayaker. But most of all she loved her family.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Ron; daughter Laiken; son Patrick; parents Carolyn and Bruce Sidari; brother Geoffrey (Claire); niece Lux and nephew Huxley; grandmother Jane Sidari; grandfather Harry Ritz and predeceased by her maternal grandmother Patricia Ritz and paternal grandfather Frank Sidari, and so many aunts, uncles and cousins who she loved dearly.

Magdalen A. Pask, 87, with her family at her side on Thu., Oct. 7, 2021 at her home.

Born April 25, 1934 in Buffalo, NY Maggie was a daughter of the late Joseph and Magdalen (Illenz) Ander. She was a graduate of Lyndonville High School, class of 1952. She worked at Harrison Radiator Division of GMC in Lockport for over 20 years, retiring in 1991. Maggie was a member of Local 686 UAW Retirees Travel Club and also belonged to the Western Orleans Senior Citizens.  She was also a longtime parishioner of the East Shelby Community Bible Church.

Preceded in death by her husband, J. David Pask in 2017; and brothers: Joseph (Novina) Ander, Frank (Alice) Ander and John (Norma) Ander.

Survivors include her four children: Michael (Peggy) Caleb, Diane (James) McMullen, Linda Kuhn, and Vicki Caleb; three step-children: Donna Devitt, Becky (Thomas) Winans and Edward (Diana) Pask; eleven grandchildren: Rachel (Charles) Pisrarski, Bradley (Sarah Beth) Caleb, Michael (Julie) Caleb, Kevin (Missy) McMullen, Kyle (Nichole) McMullen, Kelsey McMullen, Matthew Kuhn, Adam (Tanya) Hillman, April Morgan, Alicia (Matias) Hillman, Alan (Angela) Hillman; several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother, George (Charlene) Ander; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her dog, Mindy.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Christina and Helen for taking such good care of Maggie and bringing some extra joy to her life.

A memorial service will be held on Sat., Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. at the East Shelby Community Bible Church, 5278 E. Shelby Rd., Medina. Interment will be in West Ridgeway Cemetery. Isabelle Cotter of Medina, NY passed away on Sept. 30, 2021 at the age of 92.

She was predeceased by husband, Edward Cotter; daughter, Colleen Barry (Richard Barry); son, Andrew Cotter; and granddaughter, Andrea Lonnen. Isabelle is survived by her daughters: Susan Motten (Bernard Fagan,) Patricia Collins and Lissa Cotter; grandchildren: Caitlin Barry, Devon Collins, Ben and Cassie Motten; great-grandchildren: Hannah, Dylan and Maggie Lonnen; as well as her Grandpups: Fionn and Grady O’Malley.

Isabelle worked as an entrepreneur, she was a prior member of Catholic Daughters and Red Hats. She was an avid card player and will be missed by her fellow card sharks.

Susan L. Duffield, 66, of Medina, NY, went to be with the Lord on Wed., Oct. 6, 2021 at Buffalo General Hospital, with her loving family at her side.

Born on May 15, 1955 in Saint Mary’s, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Betty (McNeil) Stear Sr.

Susan graduated from Medina High School in 1973 and was employed with the former Fisher-Price. On Aug. 15, 1981, she married the late Robert L. “Duff” Duffield and together they raised two children. Lastly, she worked at BernzOmatic until their closing. She enjoyed baking and crocheting, but most of all she cherished the time spent with family and friends.

Susan is survived by two children: Michael (Dee Anna) Duffield of Jacksonville, Fla., and Amy Schrader of Medina; four grandchildren: Mitchell R. Duffield, Allity S. Duffield, Kali J. Schrader and Cory M. Schrader; siblings: Shirley (Wesley) Newman of Albion, William (Cindy) Stear Jr. and Jeffrey (Peggy) Stear, all of Knowlesville. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and her feline fur babies: Christmas & Freckles.

Relatives and friends may call on Thu., Oct. 14, 2021, at the Bogan & Tuttle Funeral Home, 112 N. Main St., Lyndonville, NY 14098, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. with a memorial service at 1 p.m. with the Pastor Joseph Szalay II officiating. Burial will be in the Lynhaven Cemetery.

Magenta Scott-Matthys, 30, of Albion passed away Oct. 4, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital surrounded by her mom and auntie Sheila.  She was born Oct. 17, 1990 in Rochester, a daughter of Kathy (Michael) Schreib Tyler and Artis Scott and had lived in this area all of her life.

 Magenta graduated from Albion High School in 2009.  She loved her rabbit, Leia, crafting, searching for rocks and fossils and visiting with her family; especially her cousins.

 She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents: Madeline and Frank Schreib.  In addition to her mom, Kathy, she is survived by her brother, Spunky; aunts: Sheila and Marsha; and several cousins.

Donald Paul Eberlin • June 24, 1961 – September 30, 2021 • Loving husband, father, grandfather

Don was predeceased by his parents, Ken and Doris Eberlin, and two brothers, Paul (Linda) and Leland.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; son Thomas (Kelsey), Kate (Alex), grandchildren: Camden, Norah, Jameson, Natalie, Avery, and Genevieve; and many friends.

Don was a proud retiree from Regional Transit Service after 36 years of service and was also an employee of the transit system at the University of Georgia Athens before his passing. A kind and gentle man whose love of gardening brought beauty into many lives. In lieu of flowers, please plant a rose bush or tree in his memory.
