GASPORT – Joan Genet, 87, of Gasport entered into eternal rest on December 31, 2021.  She was the daughter of the late G. Hubert and Julia (Hull) Winner.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard D. Genet.

She is survived by her children: Deb Genet (Beth Tiefel), Richard D. Genet, Jr. and Susan (Edward) Soos; grandchildren, Richard D. (Aurora) Genet III and Kristina Genet; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Mason, Nevaeh, Ava and Landyn and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was the sister of the late Roger Winner, Jane Eckburg and Joyce Bundrock.

Per Joan’s wishes, there will be no calling hours of funeral service.  A private celebration of Joan’s life will be arranged at a late date by the family. BROCKPORT – Wayne H. Sargent, 49, passed away unexpectedly on December 26, 2021. He was born May 31, 1972 in Brockport to Roger and Sue Sargent.

Wayne was a motorcycle enthusiast, often tinkering on them in his spare time. He was always active and willing to do whatever needed to be done.

Wayne was predeceased by his wife, Loretta (Sherwood) Sargent; and his brother-in-law, Richard Nardone.

Wayne is survived by his children, Jocelyn Sargent, Leeann Sargent, Wayne H. Sargent, Jr. and Katelyn Sherwood; grandson, Sebastian Rivera; parents, Roger and Sue Sargent; sister, April (Roger) Sargent Baskins; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eliiagh Edgar “Cornbread” Mims, 74, passed away on Tue., Dec. 21, 2021 at the Medina Memorial Hospital.

He was born on March 31, 1947 in Thompson, Alabama, the son of the late Eliagh Mims and Bernice Baker.

Cornbread worked at Batavia Medical, Angelica, both of Batavia, NY and recently worked as a farm hand in the Lyndonville area. He loved to play baseball, tell jokes and to have fun.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Oscar Mims; and sisters: Barbara and Poshie Mims.

Cornbread is survived by his loving son, Eliagh Eugene Mims Jr.; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; siblings: Sammie, John Henry, Terry, Doris and Reba and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. Also surviving is his loving companion and mother of his son, Betty Parks.

Kathleen Bander, 75, Bellingham, Wash. died peacefully surrounded by her friends and family on Fri., Dec. 3, 2021 in her home.

Kathleen was born on Oct. 17, 1946 in Palo Alto, California to Robert and Margaret (Elkins) Bander. She was the first born of five children. Her father was a Fulbright Scholar and as such, she developed a penchant for travel, living in Italy, Thailand, Saudi Arabia. Kathleen graduated high school in Palo Alto in 1964 and graduated from the UW in Political Science in 1969. Following graduation, she married Cary Jensen and volunteered for Vista, being placed in Indiana. She received her Masters degree in Public Administration from Seattle U in 1976. After moving to Seattle in 1968, job opportunities included working in PR for Group Health, running the campaign for Senator Ray Moore (Aloha Ray), working in the news department at King TV, field research for various medical organizations, running Bill Mirand’s two campaigns for IBEW 46 Business Manager, and Labor councils’ liaison to public schools.

Kathleen married Bill Mirand (originally from Medina, NY) on July 28, 1984 and together they were an incredible team, designing and building three homes, traveling to over 35 countries and joining the Peace Corps upon retirement, serving in Western Samoa.

Kathleen thrived on developing relationships with a variety of people and loved organizing parties. Her ice cream socials were well-known for over 20 years. She was always ready to explore new things and her passions were vast and endless. She enjoyed spinning and weaving, knitting, working with clay, cooking and preserving food and working in her gardens. For several years, Kathleen wrote a column, ASK A GARDENER for the Bellingham Herald. She cofounded BatsNorthwest, educating many to the value of bats. Kathleen enjoyed hiking, raising chickens, educating and always ready for her next adventure. She was an incredibly gifted teacher.

In Kathleen’s words, “People have always remarked on how fit and active I’ve been throughout my life. My unexpected encounter with ALS is the exception.”

Diagnosed in August of this year, she fought this relentless, rapidly moving disease with grace, wit and humor, maintaining her indomitable spirit to the end. Kathleen is survived by her husband, Bill Mirand of Bellingham, Wash.; son, Filmon Ali and his fiancé, Kara; grandchildren: Eli and Savannah; sister, Margo Goodloe of Marysville, Wash.; brother, Anthony Bander of Arlington, Wash.; Goddaughter, Mary Knowles; nieces and nephews: Stephanie (Jay) Masi of Chicago, Ill. and Wesley (Brett) Monahan of San Francisco, Calif.; brother-in-law, Jim (Linda) Mirand of Medina, NY; and sister-in-law: Berle Driscoll of Brooklyn, NY and Patricia (Jerry) Monahan of Oliver, British Columbia, Canada.

Kathleen’s Celebration of Life will be held on Fri., Jan.y 7, 2022 at 12 p.m. at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal in Bellingham, Wash. There will be a video available for friends unable to attend the celebration.

Albert L. Share, 82, of Albion passed away peacefully Dec. 29, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.  He was born July 3, 1939 in Brockport, NY a son of the late Albert and Anna (Calkins) Share. 

He was predeceased by his wife, Norma; and brothers: Carl and Ronald. He is survived by his daughter, Shawna; niece, Carla (Bob) Hovey; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters: Carol Jenks, Shirley Smith and Delores Jenks; nieces, nephews, cousins. 

Interment will be private at Hillside Cemetery.

James E. Greer, 80, of Medina, NY, passed away on Dec. 23, 2021 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Williamsville, NY, after a short illness. Born on Dec. 14, 1941 in Parkin, Ar., he was the son of the late Roosevelt and Alean (Fisher) Greer.

James worked for Harrison Radiator for a number of years, from which he retired. On May 22, 2009, he married the former Betty Little. James enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

James is survived by his wife of 12 years, Betty Greer; children: Levester Nauden, Lydell Nauden, Johnny Greer, Andrea Danes, Anthony Greer and Carolyn Greer; step-daughters: Theresa Soublet, Sharon Dolson, Tracey Greene; siblings: Ruth Veasley, Mary Greer, Rose Greer, Robert Greer, Willie James Greer; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his best friends, Thomas and Doris Nauden.

Zola Smith, 93, of Albion passed away Dec. 27, 2021 at the LeRoy Village  Green Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born Aug. 11, 1928 in Brockport, NY the daughter of the late Cecil and Jessie (Davis) Moore Sr.  Zola enjoyed moving, going out to eat and loved spending time with her family.  She was a member of Disciples United Methodist Church.

Zola was predeceased by her husbands: Donald Buck and Watson “Smitty” Smith; sister, Colleen Sauro; brothers: Cecil Jr., Ronald, and Clifford Moore.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her children: Karen (Ron) Meiers of Holley, Laurie (Harry) Ettinger of Brockport and Andrew (Rebecca) Smith of Batavia; 5 granddaughters, 2 grandsons and 10 great-grandchildren; siblings: Vera Kingdollar, Freida Sabo, Betty Fulks, Bernice Smith, Robert Moore, David (Becky) Moore and Sandy (Jerry) Kozlowski; also survived by several inlaws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Susanne M. “Susie” Miller, 48, of Knowlesville passed away suddenly Dec. 22, 2021 as the result of a motorcycle accident.  She was born June 21, 1973 in Medina, NY a daughter of Susanna (Fidanza) Curry and the late Robert Curry.

Susie was a member of B.P.O. Elks Albion Lodge #1006 and employed at Baxter, Medina. Susie enjoyed riding motorcycle and going to Buffalo Bills games. She loved spending time with her family, friends and especially her grandbabies.

She was predeceased by her father, Robert “Dick” Curry.

Susie is survived by her son, Jacob Miller; daughter, Melanie Hibbard; grandbabies: Brinley Miller and Skai Atkins; mother, Susanna “Sue” Jane Curry; sisters: Angela (Jeff) Brown, Sandra (Gerald) Reynolds and Bobby Jo (David) Uschold; several nephews and cousins.

Francis A. “Zom” “Frank” Zambito of Holley passed away peacefully after a long illness on Dec. 27, 2021, with his family by his side.

Francis was predeceased by his wife, Delores; mother, Josephine; father, Antonino; brother, Frankie; and sister, Annie, both in childhood.

He is survived by his children: Tony (Patty), Jim (Cathy) and Marie; and  grandchildren: Nikki (Jen), Matt, Andrew (Anna), and Justin.

Frank worked with his father farming in Elba in his youth, then went on to Lipton’s, A&P, Owens Illinois, GE, and Kleen Brite in his later years. He is probably best remembered in Holley as the owner of the Holley Liquor Store for many years.

His joys in life were always his wife, children, and grandchildren. Family gatherings were everything to him, and we consider ourselves lucky to have had one more Christmas with him. He joins his beloved Delores, whom he has missed dearly for seven years.

Services will be announced at a later date due to the COVID spike. We hope to be able to receive friends and loved ones when we can hug freely again.

Joanne Scroger, 90, of Medina, passed away on Dec. 24, 2021 at the United Memorial Medical Center.

Joanne was born Nov. 26, 1931 in Medina, a daughter of the late George and Margaret Goldsmith. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, soap operas and the Buffalo Bills.  

Surviving are her daughter, Margaret (Rick) Stanley; sister, Norma Newton; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 

Preceded in death by her husband, Maten Scroger; son, Terry Scroger; and a great-granddaughter, Anna Scroger.

Pastor Aldora Bloom, 78, passed away peacefully on Fri., Dec. 24, 24, 2021 at Unity Hospital of Rochester with her loving family at her side.

Born on Dec. 10, 1943 in Fort Valley, GA, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Estelle (Lindsey) Riley.

On April 4, 1959, she married the late Albert “Ironman” Bloom and together they raised four beautiful girls. Aldora worked as a home health care aid with the Orleans County Office of the Aging in Albion, NY. She was ordained as a minister in 1987 and in 2014 became the Pastor of The Church of Brotherly Love in Elba, NY. She enjoyed stopping for garage sales and was always ready to lend a helping hand for those in need. She especially enjoyed her time with her family and friends.

Aldora is survived by four daughters: Shirley (James) Crews of Albion, Gladys Johnson, Evonne (Nathan) Wilson, Tammy (William) Wilder, all of Medina; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; siblings: Willie Riley, Sr., Charlie Mae Fluellen and Sally Mae Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she is predeceased by one sister, Edna Mae Bloom.

Relatives and friends may call on Thu., Dec. 30, 2021 from 11 a.m. – Noon , with a going home service will be celebrated at Noon at the Oak Orchard Assembly of God Church, 12111 Ridge Rd., Medina NY 14103, with the Pastor Tammy Wilder officiating. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery in Medina.

David James “Bomber” Pahuta, Jr., 52, of Albion passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Dec. 25, 2021. He was born July 23, 1969 in Batavia to the late David J. Pahuta Sr. and Jane L. (Engle) Pahuta.

Bomber was a graduate of Albion High School where he wrestled and played golf. He loved spending time hunting, fishing, flying RC airplanes, mowing his lawn and his regularly scheduled tattoo appointments. Bomber also was a loyal supporter and sponsor of his nephews Ryan and Tim racing dirt bikes and the volleyball team every year that his niece Jessica played on. His Spyder motorcycle “Scarlett” was something he enjoyed taking out for a ride on a nice day and liked to go 4-wheeling and snowmobiling. His dog Sadie always kept him busy playing with her chasing the ball around the yard. Bomber had a big heart and was always willing to help someone in need and loved seeing his family together. His greatest joy was playing with his granddaughter and great-nephew, Isabell “Peanut” and Declan.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his great-niece, Baylee Jane McClary.

Bomber is survived by his son, Devon (Tiffany) Pahuta; granddaughter, Isabell Pahuta; sister, Tammy (David) Wells; niece, Jessica (Steven) McClary; nephews: Ryan Wells, Timothy (Allison) Wells; best friend, Mark Farone; special great-nephew, Declan McClary; as well as many more family and friends.

Richard D. Dick Hess, Jr., 84, of Knowlesville, entered into rest peacefully on Fri., Dec. 24, 2021 at Medina Memorial Hospital.

A lifelong resident of Knowlesville, Dick was born on Aug. 5, 1937, a son of the late Richard D. Hess, Sr. and Marie (Davey) Hess. He was employed for many years as a heavy equipment operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 832 in Rochester. Dick was a lifelong member of the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Co. and was also an avid sportsman and outdoorsman.

Dick was preceded in death by his first wife, Onalee M. (Jacobs) Hess in 2013; and siblings: Patricia (James) Anderson, Daniel (Joyce) Hess, Karen (Marvin) Years, and Diane Hess.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Budena Hess of Knowlesville; sons: Scott (Sarah) Hess of Albion, Thomas (Cindy) Hess of Brookfield, Conn., and Richard Rick (Brenda) Hess, III of Albion; step-daughters: Samantha Waulk, Amanda Blystone both of Clymber, Pa., Tara (Jeremy) Gentry of Holley and Tiffany Marsh of Knowlesville; 14 grandchildren; t3 great-grandchildren; sister in-law, Belva Hess of Virginia Beach; also several nieces and nephews.

George A. F. Heidemann, Jr., 81, of Alden passed away on Dec. 25, 2021. Born in Rochester, NY on April 22, 1940, he was a son of the late Katherine (nee Eslner) and late George A.F. Heidemann Sr., who established their family farm – Heidemann Farms on Peter Smith Rd in Kent, NY.

George was very active in the Kendall School F.F.A. He won the Empire Farmer Degree and in his senior year he served as President of the New York Association of Future Farmers of America. Over the years he served as various class officers and a member of the school’s championship basketball team.

Upon graduation, he went into farming with his father. The business expanded to include vegetables, hogs, livestock and eventually grains. He recently mentioned taking wheat to the Great Northern Grain Elevator in Buffalo that was damaged by the winds.

George married Betsy Smith and together they raised two sons. Scott attended Ohio Welding School then returned to the farm forming a partnership with his father. Todd pursued truck driving in lieu of farming.

George’s wife Betsy passed away in 1991 following a long illness. George eventually met and married Kathy Strickland. Over the course of many years they did a lot of traveling and cruising to points in all four directions.

George was the beloved husband of Kathy (nee Strickland) and the late Betsy (nee Smith); devoted father of Todd and the late Scott Heidemann; dearest step-father of Samantha (Doug) Townsend; loving grandpa George to Pete Borgosz, Tess Borgosz, Reed Heidemann and Spencer Heidemann; cherished bonus father of Janine (John Corda) Klimeczko. Predeceased by his sister Dorothy Lombardi.

MEDINA – Suzanne P. Bigelow, 85, of Medina, NY, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Orchard Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Medina. Born on August 12, 1936 in Lyndonville, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Jessie (Frasier) Cook.

Suzanne attended Lyndonville High School and was talented at many jobs working as a hair dresser, a real estate agent, and her longest employment was as a secretary for the Head Start Program in Newfane. She enjoyed listening to country music and also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Suzanne is survived by her two children, James (Terry Lynn) Woodroe and Cherie (Dena) Scharping, all of Medina; three grandsons, Joel (Libby) Woodroe of Medina, James (Dori) Woodroe of Tonawanda and Jeffrey (Kelly) Woodroe of Medina; several great-grandchildren; four siblings, Louise Nicholson of Medina, Marilyn Kenyon of Barker, Phyllis Allport of Medina and Janice (David) Wells of Medina. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Suzanne is predeceased by four siblings, Roy Cook, Marjorie Barry, Shirley Caleb and James Cook; a son, Rodney “Skip” Woodroe and her companion, Robert Wolfe.

Dale E. Cameron, 82, of Medina, entered into rest on Sat., Dec. 18, 2021 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. Born on Dec. 7, 1939 in Potsdam, NY, he was the son of the late Charles Frank Cameron and Marion Randall Cameron.

Dale graduated from Potsdam Central School in 1958 and went on to Clarkson University where he achieved a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1962, and then graduated from St. Lawrence University with a Master of Education in 1965. He also attended Potsdam State University, Syracuse University, and R.I.T .Dale married his devoted wife, Sarah Marie Bissell, on Dec. 31, 1960. Dale and Sarah moved to Medina, NY in 1965 for Dale to teach Experimental Nuclear Physics to high school students. Affectionately called D.C. by some of his students, he remained teaching thirty-three years until retirement. Science was his passion, as was photography, fishing, target practice, casino trips, and traveling. He was immensely proud of his children and of his students. Dale belonged to the Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, NRA, and bowling leagues. Dale was an amazing man that could do anything he set his mind to. He was a man of principles.

In addition to his parents, Dale was predeceased by his brothers, Charles R. Cameron and Wayne Cameron.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sarah; children: Dale Stewart Cameron, Carl Herbert Cameron M.D., Ruth Marion (John) Ward, and Elizabeth Joan (Andrew) Wilson; grandchildren: Andrew Cameron, Sharayah Cameron, Sarah Teresa Ward, Scott Cameron, Lillian Wilson, Olivia Ward, and Gabriella Wilson; great-grandson, Emery Cameron; sister, Lynne Cameron Stewart; sisters-in-law: Susan Richards Cameron and Jane (William) Bissell Walls, and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara A. Allen, 86, of Middleport, NY, passed away on Sun., Dec. 19, 2021 at the Medina Memorial Hospital, with her loving family at her side. Born on March 31, 1935 in Silver creek, NY, she was the daughter of the late Barton and Bertha (Schumaker) Mallaber.

Barb graduated from Royalton Hartland High School. She married right out of high school and raised her family. She was well known cook and worked at many area restaurants, the County Side Restaurant, and the cafeteria at Medina Hospital. Barb enjoyed camping and was an avid Bills fan. In her spare time, Barb loved to crochet and made many of gifts to give to her family and friends. Barb was known for having a big heart and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Most of all Barb enjoyed spending time with her very large extended family.

Barbara is survived by her children: Loren (Wendy) Fuller, Donald (Anne) Fuller, Patricia (Sam) Schepis, Darlene (Phil) Schepis, Dorothy (David) Nolan, Douglas (Danielle) Fuller, Brenda Provorse, Randy (Kelly) Allen, Timothy (Sharon) Allen, Brenda Lee Allen, and James (Julianne) Allen; sister, Betty Miller; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Allen and her former husband, Robert Fuller; infant son, Joseph Fuller; siblings: Clayton Mallaber, Rosemary Gilbert and Shirley Monthony.

She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all that knew her.

Relatives and friends may call on Thu., Dec. 23, 2021, from 10 a.m. – 12  p.m. at the Alabama Full Gospel Fellowship Church, 5329 S Gravel Rd, Medina, NY 14103, where a memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Burial will be private for the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to a charity of one’s choice.

Candy L. Turner, 61, of Albion passed away Dec. 20, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.  Candy was born Oct. 20, 1960, in Buffalo, NY.  She was a 1978 graduate of Albion High School and an Associate Trainer in Home Lending for JP Morgan Chase.   

She was predeceased by her daughter, Jennifer Martin; father, Bruce Turner; and nephew Michael Turner. 

Candy is survived by her son, Kevin Wolfe; parents, Gail and Howard Smith; siblings: Elizabeth (Daniel) Bezon, Eric (Karen) Turner, Randy Turner, Duane Smith, Luann (Jeff) Young and Lisa Smith; nieces and nephews: Tiffany Bezon (Cory Daniels), Nick (Tasha) Bezon, Brennan Bezon, Kayla (Tyler) Pfannebecker, Mercer (Hannah) Thompson, Kimberly Turner, Iyanna Turner, Matthew Turner, Bethany Turner and Sara Turner; several great-nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Regina Denson, 99, of Medina, entered into rest on Sun., Dec. 19, 2021 at the Medina Memorial Hospital- North Wing Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born Oct. 17, 1922 in Medina, she was a daughter of the late Timothy and Elizabeth (Flannery) Doody. Mrs. Denson graduated from Medina High School and went on to earn a teaching degree from Brockport State Teacher’s College in 1944. She married the late William R. Denson in December of 1944. Mrs. Denson was a kindergarten teacher for the Medina Central School District for over 30 years. She was a parishioner of Holy Trinity R.C. Parish, St. Mary’s Church, where she served as Eucharistic minister. She was active with the American Association of University Women and the Parent Teacher Association. Mrs. Denson was also an avid reader.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 71 years, William Denson in 2015; sister, Mary Doody; and brother, Frank Doody.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Barbara (Richard Hart) Denson of Brockport, William (Carolina) Denson of Bergen and Jim Denson of Medina; and grandchildren: Jeanne and Ricky Denson.

A private funeral service will be held at the Cooper Funeral Home and interment will be in West Ridgeway Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Medina Memorial Hospital- North Wing Activities Program, 200 Ohio St., Medina, NY 14103; or to the Lee-Whedon Memorial Library, 620 West Ave., Medina, NY 14103.
