Purple Eagles edge past Bulldogs

Albion nipped host Barker 57-56 this evening as the Purple Eagles go to 1-2 in Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball competition.

Kyle Radder blocked a last second Barker shot to preserve the narrow win for Albion.

Blake Preston led Albion with 24 including all 6 of the Purple Eagles points in the decisive final quarter. Radder added 10, Isaiah Riley and Seth Krenning 7, Wesley Olles 5 and Brody Vercruysse 4.

Luey Castro took game high honors with 25 for the Bulldogs as Aidan Mescall had 12 and Logan Murrell 8.

Newfane 67, Wilson 54

Newfane downed rival Wilson 67-54 to stay unbeaten at 3-0  in N-O action as Ben Dickinson scored 23 and Brayden Seitz 15. Dickinson also grabbed off 15 rebounds.

Aidan Neumann scored 25 and Blake Martin 17 for Wilson which trailed 35-25 at the half and 56-25 after three quarters.

Kendall 72, Lyndonville 25
All 10 players broke into the scoring column as Kendall downed visiting Lyndonville 72-25 in a Genesee Region League game.

Hunter Richards scored 15, Austin Werth 13 and Jacek Kwiatkowski 10 to lead the way for Kendall as Nick Cole added 9, Jonas Rhodes 8, Noah Clark 6, Austin Wakefield 5 and Will Kludt, Louis Conte and Seth Pray 2 each.

Justin Higgins led Lyndonville with 8.

Notre Dame 72, Holley 53
Notre Dame bested host Holley 72-53 in another G-R contest as Jayden Sherwood scored 30 and Ryan Fitzpatrick 13 to lead the Irish.

Vinny Golisano scored 25, Josh Silpoch 10 and Destin Kuyal 8 for Holley.

Girls Basketball
Alden 35, Roy-Hart 26
Trailing 26-21, Alden rallied to outscore visiting Roy-Hart 14-0 in the final quarter to claim a 35-26 non league win.

Adella Dukes scored 9 and Courtney Aquilina 7 to lead Roy-Hart.

Kendall girls post win over Lyndonville

Leading from wire-to-wire, Kendall downed host Lyndonville 45-40 in a Genesee Region League girls basketball game this evening.

Addison Kludt scored 12 and Alea Barrett 11 to lead Kendall as Danielle Offhaus added 8, Brooke Rodas and Lia Larson 6 and Ava LaMay 2.

Addie Dillenbeck took game high honors for Lyndonville with 16 as Bella Groves added 9, Ashlee Stephens 6, Alexa Robinson and Hannah Fox 3, Jacelyn Mack 2 and Kayli Miller 1.

Kendall grabbed a 13-10 lead at the end of the first quarter as Kludt, Barrett and Rodas each hit a three in the early going. Groves made two threes and Fox one to keep Lyndonville close.

The Lady Tigers closed to within two, 27-25, at the half as Dillenbeck scored 6, Stephens 4 and Groves hit a three in the second period. Kludt scored 7 for the Lady Eagles during that stretch.

Kendall moved out to an 8 point, 41-33, advantage after outscoring Lyndonville 14-8 in the third period. Barrett had two threes and Offhaus a pair of baskets during that stretch. Dillenbeck netted all 8 of Lyndonville’s points in the period.

Lyndonville closed back to within three, 43-40, in the final period after a three by Robinson and a two by Stephens but could get no closer.

Offhaus had all four of Kendall’s points in the period.

Kendall is now 3-2 in the league and 7-2 overall while Lyndonville is 1-4, 4-4.

Albion girls top Barker for first N-O win

Building up a 25-10 half-time advantage, Albion went on to defeat visiting Barker 48-14 in a Niagara-Orleans League girls baksetball game this evening.

Madison Hughson scored 25 points and Kenzi Snook had 9 assists for Albion which is now 1-2 in N-O action.

Akron 71, Medina 41
Akron improved to 3-1 in N-O competition with a 71-41 win over visiting Medina.

Sloan Jonathan scored 23, Abby Gerstung 16 and Ashlee Henning 10 to pace Akron.

Nevaeh Moss scored 14 and Iyla Lilleby 13 for Medina.

Wilson 47, Newfane 36
Defending champion Wilson improved to 3-0 with a 47-36 win over rival Newfane which slips to 2-1.

Peyton McInnis led Wilson with 18.

Lyndonville wrestlers pin Holley-Kendall

A burst of five pins keyed Lyndonville to a 43-21 victory over visiting Holley-Kendall in a Genesee Region League wrestling match this evening.

Trailing 15-13, the Tigers rallied for the win on pins by Ben Doolan (170), Sebastian Temich (190), Patrick Hargrave (215), Chanse Amsdill (101) and Justin Holmes (108).

Earlier, Lyndonville built up a 13-9 lead after decision wins by Ty Holmes (124), Brody Hazel (138) and Colton Smith (145) followed by a major decision win by Logan Seaman (152).

Holley-Kendall grabbed a brief 15-13 lead after a pin by Will Kruger (160) but Lyndonville answered with the run of five pins over the final six bouts to claim the victory.

Medina 34, Cheektowaga 20
Reece Senske, Luke Duffina and Austin Seefeldt all registered pins and Brody Fry added a major decision win to lead Medina to a 34-20 non league win over visiting Cheektowaga.

Roy-Hart 36, Akron 27
Dan Moore and Lucas Kimber scored pins and Joel Hickman and Ronan Klug had decision wins to pace Roy-hart to a 36-27 Niagara-Orleans League win over Akron.

Albion swimmers score sweep over Akron

Albion swept to a doubleheader victory over visiting Akron in a Niagara-Orleans League swim meet this evening.

Improving to 4-1 the Purple Eagles won the boys’ meet 58-32 and the girls’ competition 54-39.

Matt Kania was an individual event double winner for the Albion boys in the 50 Free and 100 Breaststroke as Mark Ames won the 200 Individual Medley, Finn McCue the 100 Butterfly and Mason Giattino the 500 Free

Kiera Sidari doubled in the IM and 100 Butterfly and Autumn Flugel in the 50 Free and 100 Free for the Albion girls as Willow Gaines took the Breaststroke.

In the other N-O meet Newfane downed visiting Medina winning the boys’ meet 78-77 and the girls’ 105-52.

Dylan Lamont doubled in the IM and 500 Free and Noah Kneeland in the Fly and Breaststroke to lead the Newfane boys.

Caiden Class won the 200 Free, Bryson Ford the 50 Free and Jackson Reese the Backstroke for Medina.

Kimberly Schmitt was a double winner for the Newfane girls in the Butterfly and Breaststroke.

Madeline Mark won the IM for Medina.

Hornets score win over Purple Eagles

Building up a 34-21 half-time advantage, Oakfield-Alabama went on to defeat visiting Albion 67-53 in a non league boys basketball game this evening.

Avery Watterson scored a game high 24 points to lead the Hornets.

Blake Preston scored 20 and Wesley Olles 12 to pace the Purple Eagles which could get no closer than 8 in the second half.

Greece Odyssey 68, Holley 49
Leading by only five, 46-41, after three quarters, Greece Odyssey used a big 22-8 fourth period scoring edge to lock up a 68-49 win over host Holley in another non league contest.

Destin Kuyal scored 20 and Vinny Golisano 18 for Holley.

In a Genesee Region League game, Elba downed visiting Lyndonville 81-31.

Newfane 74, Barker 45
Defending champion Newfane registered its 20th straight Niagara-Orleans League victory by downing visiting Barker 74-45.

Nate Snow scored 14 and Landon Braman 13 to lead a parade of Panthers contributing to the point production.

Isaac Monaco scored 18 and Logan Murrell 14 for Barker which trailed 38-25 at the half.

Akron 47, Wilson 45
Shutout in the third period, Wilson rallied to outscore Akron 21-11 in the final period only to have the comeback bid fall just short as the Tigers nipped the Lakemen 47-45 in another N-O contest.

Up 25-24 at the half, Akron outscored Wilson 11-0 in the third period to extend the lead to 36-24.

Medina wrestlers post N-O win over Wilson

Medina improved to 2-1 in Niagara-Orleans League wrestling competition with a 34-25 win at Wilson this evening.

Pins by Kole Campbell (170), Conor Crandall (190), Brody Fry (215) and Luke Duffin (124), along with a major decision win by Austin Seefeldt (152), led the way for the Mustangs.

Jacob Stephenson (160) had a pin for the Lakemen which are now 1-2 in N-O action.

In the other N-O match defending champion Newfane downed Albion 78-0.

Rams rally late to edge past Mustangs

Snapping a season opening six game losing streak, Roy-Hart put together a clutch closing rally to nip visiting Medina 63-60 in a Niagara-Orleans League game this evening.

Trailing 56-52, Roy-Hart rallied to outscore Medina 11-4 over the final three minutes to claim the narrow win.

Baskets by Brayden Ricker and Dan Aquilina pulled Roy-Hart even at 56-56 with 2:10 remining.

A basket by Jerrell Nealy put Medina back up for what proved to be the final time at 58-56 but Ricker quickly pulled the Rams even at 58-58 with a layup at the 1:15 mark.

A bucket by Rem Albee put the Rams up 60-58 with 45 seconds to go but the Mustangs pulled even one last time on a layup by Nealy with 30 seconds remaining.

Roy-Hart finally regained the lead for good at 61-60 on a free throw by Albee with 21 seconds remaining. Albee then tacked on two clutch free throws with nine seconds to go to close out the 63-60 Rams win as the Mustangs could not get off a good final shot.

Aquilina finished with a game high 26 points and Albee 18 to lead the Rams as Ricker added 8, Jayden Swygert 6, Jackson Webber 2 and Jackson West 1.

Nealy led Medina with 25 as Preston Woodworth added 11, Justin Pitts 8, Elijah Doxey 6, Cole Callard and Christian Moss 4 and Trevon Shine 2.

Roy-Hart also got off to a fast start grabbing a 20-13 first quarter lead as Aquilina scored 10 and Albee 7.

Medina though came battling back outscoring Roy-Hart 25-15 in the second quarter to rally into a 38-35 halftime advantage. Nealy scored 12 of his 19 first half points in the quarter and Doxey added 6.

The Mustangs maintained a four point, 50-46, lead at the end of the third quarter as Moss had a pair of baskets and Woodworth and Pitts both hit threes.

Baskets by Callard, Nealy and Woodworth kept Medina up 56-52 midway through the final period but Roy-Hart answered with a decisive 11-4 rally to close the game and earn the victory.

The game was the N-O opener for Medina while Roy-Hart is now 1-1 in league action.

Attica girls top Albion in non league contest

A third quarter scoring edge keyed Attica to a 45-34 win over visiting Albion in a non league girls basketball game this evening.

Leading by a narrow 18-17 margin at the half, Attica outscored Albion 13-6 in the third period to open up a 31-23 advantage. Albion could get no closer than five in the final stanza.

Trailing 12-4 after the opening period, Albion did put together a 13-2 run to open the second quarter and rally into a 17-14 lead. Madison Hughson scored 7, Alison Gibson 4 and Paige Newton 2 during that Purple Eagles rally.

However, the last four points of the half and the lead for good at 18-17 belonged to Attica.

Madalyn Robinson scored 13 and Elise Dressel and Mackenzie McLeod 10 each to lead Attica.

Hughson finished with a game high 19 for Albion.

Purple Eagles sweep Seahorses

Taking first place in 20 of 22 events, Albion swept to a doubleheader victory over visiting Medina in a Niagara-Orleans League swim meet this evening.

Albion won the boys’ meet 60-31 and the girls’ competition 67-26.

The Albion boys had a trio of individual event double winners as Finn McCue took the 200 Free and 100 Butterfly, Mark Ames the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Backstroke and Matt Kania the 50 Free and 100 Breaststroke. Joel Slack added a win in the 100 Free. McCue, Kania and Slack were also on two winning relays.

Medina’s Caiden Class won the 500 Free.

The Albion boys improve to 3-1 and Medina slips to 1-3.

The Albion girls had Mia Olles double in the 200 Free and 100 Free and Kiera Sidari in the IM and Butterfly. Anna Grillo also took the 500 Free, Autumn Flugel the 50 Free and Willow Gaines the Breaststroke. Gaines was also on all three winning relays while Olles and Sidari were each on two,

Medina’s Maya Anderson won the Backstroke.

The Albion girls are now 3-1 and Medina 0-4.

Roy-Hart/Barker sweeps Newfane
The Roy-Hart/Barker swim teams improved to 4-0 with a sweep over host Newfane.

The Channel Cats won the boys’ meet 95-68 and the girls’ 93-76.

Sean Labiak doubled in the IM and Backstroke and Carson Hashem in the IM and 50 Free for the Roy-Hart/Barker boys as Garrett Glyshaw added a win in the Butterfly.

Noah Kneeland doubled for Newfane in the 200 Free and 500 Free.

Julia Miles was a double winner in the 50 Free and 100 Free and Abigail Glyshaw in the 200 Free and 500 Free for the Roy-Hart/Barker girls as Ava Actyl took the Backstroke.

Kimberly Schmitt doubled for Newfane in the IM and Breaststroke.
