Sandstone and Elks/Rotary both scored victories Wednesday evening in the semifinal round of the Albion Midget League 12U playoffs.

Top seeded Sandstone downed No. 5 Elba 1 14-2 and No. 3 Elks/Rotary nipped No. 2 Barre 11-10.

Sandstone will now host Elks/Rotary in the championship game at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Sandstone 14, Elba1 2
Sandstone banged out total of 17 hits to back the steady pitching of Nikko Russo who allowed only 2 hits and struck out 13.

At the plate, Giovanni LaMartina had 2 doubles, a home run and 4 RBIs; Bryce Saxton 4 hits and 5 RBIs; Russo 3 hits including 2 doubles; Jace Torres 2 hits including a home run and Dom Westlund 2 hits including a three-run double.

Elks/Rotary 11, Barre 10
Breaking away from an 8-8 tie, Elks/Rotary scored 3 runs in the top of the sixth inning highlighted by a two-run triple by Ryan Coots, to key the narrow win over Barre.

Coots finished with 4 hits including 2 doubles, the triple and 5 RBIs. Kayden Donnelly added 3 hits with 3 RBIs and Remi Ebbs and Owen Beecher 2 hits each.

On the mound, Ebbs registered 15 strikeouts over the 6 innings.

For Barre, Parker Gardner and Hudson Armer both had 3 hits and 3 RBIs and Finn Baird 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

Armer also had 12 strikeouts in 5 innings of work on the mound.

Improving to 5-0, Albion used a pair of big late inning scoring bursts to key a 12-0 win over Alden in a GLOW League 14U baseball game Wednesday evening.

Leading 2-0, Albion pulled away by scoring 4 runs in the fourth inning as winning pitcher Robert Hickman had a two-run single and Brody Furness an RBI single.

Albion then put a lock on the victory by scoring 6 times in the fifth frame as Jackson Frasier had a two-run single and Blake Brown and Brycen Potter RBI singles.

Brown, Potter ad Frasier each finished with 2 hits.

On the mound, Hickman hurled a no hitter with 8 strikeouts in four and two-thirds innings of work.

It was a bit of a rivalry contest as Medina/Lyndonville United downed Medina/Roy-Hart 7-0 in a Buffalo District Youth Soccer League boys U16 Division game Tuesday evening at Vets Park.

Garret Jones scored 4 goals, including 3 in the first half, to lead the way for Medina/Lyndonville United.

Gavyn Draper also scored a goal in the first half as Jacob Folley and Amire Zimmerman had the other second half tallies.

Medina/Lyndonville improves to 3-2-1 while Medina/Roy-Hart slips to 1-6.

Albion swept to a doubleheader victory over visiting Lyndonville by scores of 7-0 and 10-4 Tuesday evening to stay unbeaten at 5-0 in GLOW League 18U Division baseball action.

Albion 7, Lyndonville 0
Run production in each of the first four innings backed the steady pitching of Gavin Boyce who allowed only 1 hit and struck out 5 in four innings of work. Boyce and Elliott Trapiss also both banged out a pair of hits.

Albion took the lead for good with a quick run in the first inning as Trapiss tripled and came home on a passed ball.

Rocco Sidari then had an RBI single to key a two-run second inning and Boyce and Trapiss had singles to help plate a third inning run.

A double by Viktor Snyder and an RBI single by Mason Snook then highlighted a three run fourth frame.

Albion 10, Lyndonville 4
A trio of pitchers – Alakai Colmenero, Drew Pritcherd and Omer Fugate – combined to hurl a no hitter with 5 strikeouts for Albion.

Albion broke the game open early erupting for 5 runs in the first inning highlighted by a two-run double by Snook and an RBI single by Brayden LaMartina and 4 more in the second as Trapiss had a two-run double and Nate Gibson an RBI single. LaMartina also had another RBI single in the third inning.

Improving to 5-1, Holley blanked visiting Cal-Mum 4-0 Tuesday evening in a Rochester District Youth Soccer League girls U18 Division game.

Scoring goals for Holley were Veronica Flow off a corner by Kyla Burne, Jayna Burris from Kyla Burne and Alexa Mosier from Burris. The other tally came on an own goal.

Anchoring the shutout defense for Holley were Aiyana Stevens, Brianna Tomasino, Riley Sweet, Aurora Arnold and Burne.

White Birch downed Mr. Septic 19-9 and Jr. Wilson shutout Banes 14-0 in Medina Women’s Softball action Monday evening.

White Birch had 23 hits including home runs from Aubrey Lewis, Ella Lewis and Morgan Ralph.

Anna Lewis went 4 for 4 at the plate with a triple and 3 singles. Other hitters included Aubrey Lewis (2 singles), Morgan Ralph (single), Maddy Boyle (2 singles), Kenzie Muck (single and double), Rebekah Hoffee (2 singles and a double), Stacy Buckland (2 singles), Brianna Paniccia ( single), Dana Cottris (2 singles) and Mallory Albone ( single).

Mr. Septic had a home run from their lead off batter, Lindsay Ward who also had a single. Randi Tower had three singles and Cathy Schmitt 2 singles and a double.

Jr. Wilson 14, Banes 0
Jr Wilson’s opened the game with two runs in the first on a triple from Stormi Beach. They then scored 6 runs in the 2nd with hits coming from Jaclyn Rodriguez, Sara Flansburg, Lizzy Zacher, and Penny Roath.

Jr Wilson’s tacked on 6 more runs in the fifth, with a 3-run Home Run by Alyssa Robarge, a double from Chasity Chinn, and singles from Flansburg, Beach, Jodi Zacher, Sharon Korzelius, Rodriquez, and Roath.

Flansburg ended the night with 3 hits, while Beach, Jodi Zacher, and Roath all chipped in with two hits apiece.

Connie Heschke and Teri Scharlau had hits for Banes.

Albion Midget League 12U Division playoff action got underway Monday evening with four quarterfinal round games as top seeded Sandstone downed No. 8 Vets 12-5, No. 2 Barre topped No. 7 Hamlin 14-9, No. 3 Elks/Rotary defeated No. 6 Holley 14-2 and No. 5 Elba 1 bested No. 4 Brockport 2 8-1.

Giavanni LaMartina belted a two-run homer and a grand slam with 6 RBIs and Bryce Saxton had 3 hits to spark Sandstone.

Ryan Coots and Remi Ebbs combined to register 15 strikeouts to lead Elks/Rotary. Jayden Donnelly led the offense with two doubles, a triple and 4 RBIs.

Wednesday’s 6 p.m. semifinals will now have Elba 1 at Sandstone and Elks/Rotary at Barre.

The Mustangs are represented on the second team by junior catcher Alexa Demmer.

Scoring in five of the six innings, the Grand Island Vikings posted a 15-3 win over the Medina Mustangs 15U baseball team at Vets Park this evening.

Four run scoring bursts in the third, fifth and sixth innings keyed the win for the Vikings.

Medina scored once in the second on an RBI double by Shawn Robertson, once in the fifth as Jacob Duffina doubled and came in on a steal of home and once in the sixth on a passed ball.

Medina is now 5-6.

Runner-up (9-3) Roy-Hart has placed two players on the first team of the annual Niagara-Orleans All-League softball squad.

The Lady Rams are represented by the senior battery of pitcher Abby Fox and catcher Peyton May.

Fox, who is a repeat first team honoree, registered 85 strikeouts. At the plate she hit .511 with 4 doubles and 14 RBIs.

May hit .400 with 2 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run and 14 RBIs.

Roy-Hart also had a pair of second team honorees in senior infielder Grace Pearl and junior infielder Brooke Corser.

The Lady Rams had infielder Millie Owens and outfielder Hayley Hillburn, both seniors, receive Honorable Mention.

Akron’s Honorees
Akron had a first team honoree in freshman outfielder Shannon Esmond.

The Lady Tigers also had junior pitcher Kenadee Jonathan and eighth grader infielder Addison Massaro earn second team honors.

Akron also had two Honorable Mention selections in junior infielder Madison Gates and sophomore catcher Mackenzie Tomporowski.

Newfane’s first team honoree is junior pitcher Emma Schaughnessy.

Lady Panthers senior infielder Gabby Ross earned second team honors.
