Pavilion tops Lyndonville in 18U contest

Stymied on just one hit, Lyndonville dropped a 12-0 decision to visiting Pavilion in a GLOW League 18U baseball game Thursday evening.

Brandon Parsons pitched the 1 hitter with 9 strikeouts for Pavilion which scored 4 quick runs in the first inning on just one hit. A five run fourth inning later locked up the win.

Shawn Robertson had Lyndonville’s lone hit.

Special awards highlight Block ‘M’ Banquet

Current student-athletes and alumni shared in earning honors at the annual Medina High Block ‘M’ Banquet held this week at White Birch.

The honored alumni was the new quartet of Mustang Hall of Fame inductees Karl Barna (Football), Levi Pace (Football, Basketball), Kurt Rosentreter (Wrestling) and Steve Kenward (Cross-Country).

Heading the list of current honorees were seniors Brody Fry and Sophia Goyette who received the Babe Ruth Award and freshmen Bryson Ford and Payton Denniston who received the Russell Houserman Award.

Goyette and Ethan Carson also received the Mustangs Heart Award.

A number of seniors also received scholarships including the following:

Larry Decker Memorial Scholarship – Brody Fry, Addy Paul, Ryleigh Culver, Riley Tompkins and Eva Lacy.

Chad Kroening was honored as the  Fan of the Year.

Boice/Ossont Scholarship – Ryder Jones and Cam Kenward.

Kyle Barna Memorial Scholarship – Cole Callard and Carter Woodworth.

Bev Sargent Scholarship – Addy Paul

Gary Gross Memorial Scholarship – Brody Fry.

N-O League Scholarship – Cam Kenward and Sophia Goyette.

Sandstone’s big rally nips Barre in key Albion Midget League 12U division game

Rebounding from as much as an 8 run deficit, Sandstone rallied to edge visiting Barre 14-13 in a key Albion Midget League 12U Division baseball game Wednesday evening.

The win vaults undefeated (10-0) Sandstone into the drivers seat in the race to earn the top seed for the upcoming playoffs as Barre suffered its second loss.

Barre built up a big 11-3 lead as Luke Snyder hit a three-run double to highlight a 5 run first inning and later belted a three-run home run in the fourth frame.

Sandstone though came battling back to claim the narrow win by scoring 5 runs in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 11-8 and 6 more in the fifth to rally into a 14-11 lead. Liam Skowneski had a three-run double to in fourth inning and Giovanni LaMartina a three-run double and Aiden Kelly a two-run single in the fifth to highlight the big rally.

LaMartina finished with 3 hits as Kelly, Bryce Saxton and Jayce Torres each had 2.

Tyler Bennett and Jace Wright both had 3 hits for Barre as Snyder and Hudson Armer 2 each.

Lady Rams have a split week in soccer

Snapping a season opening three game winless streak, Roy-Hart edged visiting Grand Island 1-0 Tuesday in a Buffalo Youth Soccer League girls U19 Division game.

Kylie Churchill scored the lone goal for the Lady Rams which are now 1-2-1.

In the girls U16 Division, Roy-Hart had a season opening three game winning streak snapped by the visiting ASA 2010 Girls team by a score of 4-1 Wednesday evening.

Maria Trombley scored the Roy-Hart goal in the first half as ASA answered with four second half goals to earn the win.

9U Division Midget playoffs begin Thursday

Baseball playoff action will get underway Thursday evening for the Albion Midget League 9U Division.

Thursday’s 6 p.m. quarterfinal games will have No. 8 seed Holley at No. 1 Sandstone, No. 7 Elba 1 at No. 2 Barre, No. 6 Vets at No. 3 Elba 2 and No. 5 Rotary at No. 4 Carlton.

The semifinals are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday and the championship game at 6 p.m. Tuesday July 1.

Honors presented at N-O Coaches Banquet

Rydza, holding his plaque at left, was presented his award by Barker Athletic Director and Roy-Hart graduate Rob Mucha. Rydza was a long time basketball and golf coach at Roy-Hart. Young was presented her award by Medina Athletic Director Eric Valley. She was a long time field hockey and softball coach at Medina.

Albion and Lyndonville tie in 18U contest

Albion and Lyndonville played to a 7-7 tie in a GLOW 18U Division baseball game at Lyndonville Tuesday evening that was halted after five innings.

GLOW League rules state that no new inning can be started after 8:15 thus the stoppage of play after five innings.

Albion jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by scoring once in the first inning on a double by Nate Gibson and once in the second on an error following a double by Mason Snook.

Lyndonville rallied into a 3-2 lead in the third inning on a three-run single by Atticus Mank.

However, Albion answered with 5 runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Snook, two passed balls, a wild pitch and a bases loaded walk to regain the lead at 7-3.

GLOW League rules also limit the number of runs that can be scored in an inning to 5.

Lyndonville though again came rallying back to knot the contest at 7-7 by scoring once in the fourth on a balk and three times in the fifth on a hit batter and a two-run double by Thomas Blake. He also had a double to set up the fourth inning tally.

Albion is now 3-0-1 and Lyndonville 0-2-1.

Starting on the mound were Aaron Woodrow for Albion and Quincy McClinsey for Lyndonville.

Nine Mustangs earn N-O diamond honors

Undefeated (12-0) champion Medina has placed a total of nine players on the annual Niagara-Orleans All-League baseball squad.

The Mustangs have six players on the first team including senior pitcher Brody Fry, sophomore pitcher Preston Woodworth, senior third baseman Carter Woodworth, sophomore shortstop Aidan Papaj, senior outfielder Tyler Kroening and junior outfielder Vinny Gray.

Fry, who has been named N-O Player of the Year for the second year in a row, and Papaj are both repeat first team honorees. Preston Woodworth and Carter Woodworth were both second team honorees last year.

The Mustangs have also placed senior catcher Ryleigh Culver on the second team while sophomore outfielder Hadrian Batista and sophomore first baseman Cam Fike have both earned Honorable Mention.

On the mound in N-O contests. Fry was 5-0 with 58 strikeouts and a 0.00 earned run average and Preston Woodworth 6-0 with 56 strikeouts and a 0.00 era. In all Mustangs pitchers earned shutouts in 10 of 12 league outings.

At the plate in league action, Papaj hit .459 with 3 double, 2 triples, 1 home run and 18 RBIs. Fry hit .455 with 4 doubles, 1 triple and 15 RBIs. Gray hit .444 with 2 doubles and 8 RBIs. Kroenimg hit .406 with 1 double and 5 RBIs. Carter Woodworth hit .382 with 7 doubles , 1 triple and 14 RBIs. Preston Woodworth hit .316 with 6 doubles and 16 RBIs.

Purple Eagles have a trio of first team N-O All-League baseball honorees

Albion has placed three players on the first team of the Niagara-Orleans All-League baseball squad including senior outfielder Andrew Boyce, junior infielder Elliott Trapiss and junior catcher Nate Gibson.

The Purple Eagles have also placed sophomore infielder Gavin Boyce on the second team as junior outfielder Kaiden Froman has earned Honorable Mention.

In N-O games, Gibson hit .568 with 11 RBIs, Trapiss .375 with 12 RBIs and Boyce .318 with 3 RBIs.

Roy-Hart is represented on the first team by junior pitcher Gavin Heideman who had 78 strikeouts and a 1.66 earned run average. At the plate he hit .270 with 2 doubles and 5 RBIs.

The Rams have also placed junior infielder Sean Mettler and junior outfielder Evan Poeller on the second team as sophomore infielder RJ Townsend has received Honorable Mention.

Rounding out the first team is the Akron duo of senior infielder Ryan Owen who hit .424 in N-O games and freshman infielder Hunter Haist who hit .341.

The Tigers have also placed junior outfielder Collin Miller on the second team as seniors Anthony Consiglio and Vincent Consiglio have both earned Honorable Mention.

Barker has a trio of second team honorees including senior infielders Isaac Monaco and Noah Sandolfini and junior outfielder Jackson Prynn.

The Bulldogs also have senior Tristen Garcia earning Honorable Mention.

Wilson also has a trio of second team honorees including senior pitchers Tyler Johnston and Tyler Durow and senior outfielder Aiden Flynn.

The Lakemen also have three Honorable Mention selections including senior Tyler Woolston, sophomore Cameron Bryer and freshman Luke Howard.

Newfane has placed sophomore infielder Matthew Kline on the second team as junior Tristen Smith has received Honorable Mention.

Holley U15 girls soccer off to 3-0-1 start

Holley is off to a strong 3-0-1 start to the season in Rochester District Youth Soccer League girls U15 Division competition.

Holley opened the season with a pair of narrow one goal wins first 2-1 over Greece Limited on goals by Addie Crosier and Audrianna Lana and then 3-2 over Victor on two goals by Lana and one by Carsyn Mogel. Lilly O’Brien, Grace Torpey and Philomena Arnold all had assists.

Holley then tied Spencerport 1-1 as Crosier netted the lone goal.

Most recently, Holley blanked Canandaigua 6-0 as Lana had a pair of goals as Mogle, Crosier, Brianno Tomasino and Veronica Flow one each. Mogle and Addie Bevins chipped in with assists.
