Working through a bit of an up and down final round today, Medina’s Melanie Green has earned a tie for 20th at the Epson Tour’s Dream First Bank Charity Classic at Garden City, Kansas.

Green had a 4 to 2 advantage in birdies over bogeys on the day to post a 2 under par round of 70 and finish the three day tournament with a 4 under par total of 212.

Beginning the day at 2 under, she improved to 3 under with a birdie on 7 only to see a bogey on 8 wipe out that gain.

Rebounding, she registered back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11 to go 4 under.

She was able to maintain that 4 under par total by notching a birdie on 14, which off set a bogey on 12, and then by paring the final four holes.

Green opened the tourney with an even par round of 72 on Friday . She improved to a 70 on Saturday to go 2 under and then matched that score of 70 today to finish 4 under.

Albion scored a three game sweep over host Lyndonville in Niagara Orleans Football Association (NOFA) action Saturday.

Beginners Division
Albion 32, Lyndonville 0
Kenny Almonte ran for 202 yards and 3 scores and caught a 31 yard TD pass from Gunner Jackson to lead the way for Albion. Xavier Weis added 52 yards on the ground and a score.

Almonte was in on 10 tackles for the Eagles defense. Matthias Ellis had 6 tackles, Lexington Pridgen, Weis, Jackson, Drake Neri, Jaxon Francis and Artavion Lewis had 2 each. Pridgen also had a sack.

Mini Division
Albion 30, Lyndonville 0
Elian Almonte led the Eagles rushing attack with 130 yards and 3 touchdowns. Moses Taylor picked up 80 yards, Jaidyn Richardson 48 and a score, Hudson Palmer 46, Elijah Cornick 25 and Patrick Westlund 5 yards. Greyson Roberts threw for 81 yards.

Westlund led the defense with 6 tackles, Chase Armer, Conor Murphy, Almonte and Palmer had 5 each. Richardson, Taylor and Wyatt Purnell had 3 tackles. Roberts and Mason Cornick 2 each.

JV Division
Albion 48, Lyndonville 14
Lyndonville jumped out to a 6-0 lead and Albion went on to score the next 40 points.

Camden Holt rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown. Arthur Lewis III picked up 68 yards and 2 TDs. Damareon Shine added 64 yards and 2 scores. Jace DiMatteo passed for 96 yards and 2 scores to Lewis and Kayden Brigham.

Lewis led the defense with 10 tackles. Holt 8, Kairo Bennett, Matthew Colmerero, Shine and Cayden Farrell had 5 each. Liam Saporito, Harrison Froman and Kenny Witcroft 4 each. Jayce Torres, Cooper Traxler and Roman Allport with 3 each. Isaac Button, Jayden Russo, Zachary Rice, Parker Gardner, Edward Hammonds and Prince McGill were each in on tackles.

Saporito had 2 sacks and Lewis and Traxler each had a sack as well. Owen Beecher had an interception.

Lyndonville’s touchdowns were scored by AyMarie Rutland and Cam Eckerd on runs of 12 and 10 yards.

A veteran group of 10 seniors leads the way for the Medina field hockey team which will open Niagara-Orleans League competition against defending champion Akron at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Vets Park.

Penelope Schalck, who earned first team N-O All-League honors last fall heads that group which also has five All-League Honorable Mention selections in Malloree Rinker, Tatianna Maxon, Sophia Castricone, Emilianna Batista and Maggie Lonnen.  Schalck had 20 goals and 11 assists.

Rounding out the Mustangs senior group are Ava Blount, Madison Farley, Morgan Zeiner and Lilah Class.

Coach Amber Cleaveland’s Mustangs also return experience in juniors Adelynne Lacy and Isabella Perez along with sophomore Jenelle Stalker.

“We do have a large senior group with a lot of experience so hopefully that will help us have a good season,” said Cleaveland. “We have a very challenging opener in Akron.”

Medina went 6-6 in N-O action and 10-7 overall last fall.

Akron which captured its fifth straight N-O title last fall with a 12-0 record has a good veteran nucleus led by returning first team All-League honorees senior Marissa Brege and juniors Madigan Regan and Madison Gates; second team honorees senior Morgan Tomporowski and junior Alexis Salmon and Honorable Mention selection sophomore Mackenzie Tomporowski.

Returning a large veteran group, Roy-Hart is prepping to defend its Niagara-Orleans League girls soccer title.

The Lady Rams went 8-1-1 in N-O action and 14-3-1 overall last fall.

Senior midfielder Kaylie Churchill, who earned N-O All-League first team honors last fall, along with second team honorees juniors midfielder/forward Maria Trombley and goalie Courtney Aquilina and Honorable Mention picks senior Macie Sidor and junior Addison Carr head the Lady Rams large veteran contingent.

That group also includes seniors Haylie Hillburn, Felicity Kwaizer, Hannah Verholzer, Dylan Disinger, Hannah Verratti and Nina Santos along with juniors Kennedy Boyle and Maizie Ciliberto and sophomores Ruth Walker, Josephine Silsby and Julia Verratti.

The Lady Rams graduation losses included first team All League selections Kaitlin Mettler and Allie Trombley and second team honoree Ali Ausman along with Alexis Capen and Emily Duewiger.

Mettler scored 36 goals.

“We lost some really good players but we have a real good group back,” said Coach Rich Jennings. “This group is dedicated and committed so we have high expectations.”

The Lady Rams will tune up for the September 12 N-O home opener against Medina with non league games against Lockport on Sept. 2 and Oakfield-Alabama on Sept. 9.

Keyed by two clutch late birdies this afternoon, Medina’s Melanie Green has made the cut at the Epson Tour’s Dream First Bank Charity Classic at Garden City, Kansas.

With the cutline at even par and her score for the tourney at even par, Green came up big notching birdies at both 14 and 16 to go 2 under par and advance to Sunday’s final round.

Green started the day at even par after posting an opening round 72 on Friday. She had a birdie on 3 to go 1 under but later had a bogey on 12 put her back to even par.

That set the stage for her late two birdie rally to finish the day with a round of 70 and advance to Sunday.

On Friday’s opening round, Green rallied from an early 3 over deficit with a trio of birdies on 18, 3 and 4 to rally for an even par round of 72.

A large group of 10 returnees, including six All-League honorees, anchors the lineup for the Roy-Hart field hockey team which went 7-5 in Niagara-Orlesns action and 10-7 overall last fall.

Those All-League honorees include first team selections senior defender Dillan Santella and junior forward Adella Dukes; second team honorees senior forward Brooke Zglinicki and midfielder Alayna Kowalski along with Honorable Mention selections junior midfielder Savannah Newton and junior Mackenzie Landers.

Dukes had 16 goals and 5 assists last fall.

Rounding out the veteran contingent are senior forward Violette Streckawald, senior goalie Casondria Sanney, junior defender Miley Reiter and freshman Bella Rhinehart.

The Lady Rams graduation losses included forward Ava Achtyl, midfielder Abigail Glyshaw and defenders Olivia Marsillo and Lily Beals.

Roy-Hart will open the N-O season at home against Kenmore this coming Wednesday (August 27) at 5 p.m.

Returning to Epson Tour competition, Medina’s Melanie Green rebounded from early bogey trouble to fire an even par 72 today in the opening round of the Dream First Bank Charity Classic at Garden City, Kansas.

Starting on the back nine, Green quickly ballooned to 3 over after bogeys on 10, 15 and 17.

Bouncing back, Green registered a clutch birdie on 18 to begin her comeback.

She tacked on back-to-back birdies on 3 and 4 and then pared the final 5 holes to finish with an even par round of 72.

The tournament will continue on Saturday and then after the field is cut will conclude on Sunday.

Heading into this weekend Green was the Epson Tour points leader and has already locked up an LPGA Tour card for 2026.

Last weekend Green finished in the top 30 at the LPGA’s Portland Classic in Portland, Oregon.

Hit hard by graduation, the Albion boys soccer team looks to begin a bit of a rebuilding project when the Purple Eagles compete in the season opening Wheatland-Chili Tournament on August 27 and 29.

The Purple Eagles graduation losses included Niagara-Orleans All-League first team honorees midfielders Leo Bolton and David Rosario, second team selections goalie Adrian Figueroa-Fuentes, defender Jayden Lewis and midfielder Tye Talbot and Honorable Mention pick midfielder Matt Kania.

Leading Albion into the upcoming season will be the senior veteran group of forwards Joseph Bropst, Colin Coyle, Justin Kania along with defenders Logan Poupore, Hunter Zambito and Josh Zayac.

Bropst and Kania both earned N-O All-League Honorable Mention last fall.

“We did lose a lot of players and most of them were starters so we have some holes to fill,” said Coach Bridgette Varin whose Purple Eagles went 7-3 in N-O action and 8-8 overall last fall..

Albion will begin N-O competition at Medina on September 4.

It is a new league affiliation and a new lead school this season for the now Barker/Lyndonville girls varsity soccer squad.

For the last couple of years Lyndonville was the lead school for the then Lyndonville/Barker team which competed in the Genesee Region League.

Now Barker is the lead school for the Barker/Lyndonville squad which will be competing in the Niagara-Orleans League.

Barker/Lyndonville returns a large, mostly underclassmen, veteran group including seniors Brooke Robinson, Rylan Townsend, Lilly Raduns and Isabella Groves; juniors Leah Costello and Annalee Clark; sophomores Alexa Robinson, Lillyana Reyes, Abigail Alexander, Arnie Sturtevant and freshmen Natalie Rath, Delaney Johnson, Aine Davis and Braelynn Dillenbeck.

“We have some kids who play travel ball which really helps and the majority of our players have a lot of game experience so we hope that will pay off for us,” said Coach Lee Dillenbeck. “We’re looking forward to the season to competing in the N-O League and growing our program.”

Barker/Lyndonville will visit CSAT on August 29 before beginning N-O competition at Wilson on September 5.
