Six veterans anchor the lineup for Roy-Hart as the Lady Rams prep to begin defense of their Niagara-Orleans League volleyball championship this week.

Roy-Hart will host Lyndonville in a non league match on Tuesday and then open the N-O campaign at Albion on Thursday, both at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Rams veteran group includes seniors Ryleigh Capen, Raegan Kern, Grace Pearl, Kylie McOmber and Peyton May along with sophomore Lauren Snyder.

Capen earned first team N-O All League honors last season while Kern and Snyder were both second team honorees and Pearl and McOmber Honorable Mention selections.

“We have a very good core group returning,” said Coach Eliza Feocco.

Roy-Hart’s graduation losses included N-O first team honoree Lila Brigham and Honorable Mention selections Ellia Martillotta and Emily Livergood.

Roy-Hart claimed the N-O crown last fall with a 9-1 record.

The fall of 1975 was a very special one for the Holley boys varsity soccer team as the Hawks captured the first Section V soccer championship in school history.

Now on the 50th anniversary of that accomplishment, the 1975 soccer squad will be inducted into Holley’s Wall of Fame in ceremonies at the Hawks Homecoming game on Saturday September 27 which starts at 5:30 p.m.

The Hawks 1975 team compiled a record of 15 wins, 3 losses, 1 tie, while scoring 64 goals with only 15 goals against, and recorded 8 shut-outs.

The regular season was highlighted by a 2-1 win over eventual Section 5 Class A Champion Greece Arcadia 2-1 on their home field just before the start of Section 5 Tournament.

In the Section 5 Tournament Holley defeated Harley-Allendale 2-0, Marion 1-0 in the quarter final, Fillmore 2-1 in the semi-final, and winning the Section 5 Championship 1-0 against rival Kendall in a game before approximately 2,000 people held at Spencerport High School’s soccer field.

A Holley and Albion duo combined to spark the Alfred University women’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Chatham University this afternoon.

Holley graduate Zoey Wolf scored both goals at the 8 and 57 minute marks both coming off assists from Albion graduate Abby Scanlan.

The goals are the first of her career for Wolf.

Scanlan, a four year player for Alfred, now has a career total of 11 goals and 9 assists.

Wolf is a freshman majoring in Early Childhood/Childhood Education.

Scanlan is a senior majoring in Criminal Justice.

Alfred is now 1-1.

They normally meet on the final weekend of the regular season – rivalry weekend – but instead Albion and Medina renewed their football rivalry this morning at a season opening six team scrimmage at Barker.

Except for a few planned joint practices during the season this will be their only meeting. Because of some scheduling issues the Purple Eagles and Mustangs will not play each other in a regular season game this fall.

Section VI schedule makers were unable to include that contest in the schedule because Medina’s decsion to return to 11 man football (after briefly opting to go to 8 man because of low numbers) came after the sectional schedule had been put together. In order to include the Medina vs. Albion game both the Class C and Class B schedules would have to be redone as Albion is in Class B, a task which schedule makers were unwilling to do.

Except for the Covid caused abbreviated 2021 spring season, Albion and Medina had met on the football field every fall since 1920.

This morning the Purple Eagles and Mustangs went against each other in a pair of 12 minute quarters. Each team had one quarter on offense and one on defense.

In addition to host Barker/Roy-Hart the other teams participating in the scrimmage were Wilson, Oakfield-Alabama/Elba and Greece Olympia.

The regular season will begin this coming Friday at 7 p.m. with Albion at Lew-Port, Medina at Silver Creek/Forestville and Barker/Roy-Hart at Newfane.

Medina scored a straight set 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 win over host Lyndonville in a season opening non league volleyball match this evening.

Lyndonville took a 22-18 lead late in the opening set after Emily Dill served up points 18-22.

However, Medina rallied to claim a 25-22 win as Caliyah St. Louis tied the set with a spiking kill and then Maddi Sanders served up the final three points, two of which were aces.

In the second set Medina built up a 14-7 lead as Maya Anderson served up points 5-9, including two aces, and Sam Heschke tacked on points 11-14 three of which were aces.

Heschke also registered aces for points 22 and 23 and St. Louis tacked on an ace for the set winning point.

Lyndonville grabbed an early 7-3 lead in the third set as Elena Barry served up points 2-7 one of which was an ace.

Medina though again rallied to erase an 8-5 deficit as Heschke served up 9 straight points (6-14) including 4 aces to put the Mustangs on top to stay at 14-8.

Kills by Karlee Cau and Raelynn Baker helped keep Medina up 18-12 and Heschke polished off the set and the match by registering aces for the final two points.

Heschke had a total of 10 aces on the evening as Anderson had 3, St. Louis and Sanders 2 each. Anderson had 4 kills and St. Louis and Cau 2 each. Anderson also had 3 blocks.

Hannah Fox had 3 aces and 3 kills, Bella Bresett 2 aces, Sarah Corser 2 kills, Barry 2 aces and 2 kills, Ainsley Vann 3 blocks and 1 kill and Dill 1 ace and 1 kill for Lyndonville.

Six players contributed goals as Barker/Lyndonville romped to a 10-0 win over host CSAT in a season opening non league girls soccer game this afternoon.

Alexa Robinson and Natalie Rath both scored 3 goals to lead the Barker/Lyndonville scoring parade.

Arnie Sturtevant, Braelynn Dillenbeck, Delaney Johnson and Annalee Clark each chipped in with a goal.

Robinson also had 2 assists as Johnson, Sturtevant, Aine Davis, Villette Jary, Elysse Dillenbeck and Braelynn Dillenbeck each had one.

Barker/Lyndonville will next face Wilson on September 5.

A quick goal in the first two minutes ignited St. Mary’s of Lancaster to a 6-1 win over host Kendall in the championship game of the Lady Eagles season opening tournament this afternoon.

Jersie Drake scored the Kendall goal off an assist from Alea Barrett.

Albion Tournament

Oakfield-Alabama nipped Albion 1-0 in the championship game of the Albion girls soccer tournament.

Albion nipped host Wheatland-Chili 1-0 this afternoon in the consolation game of the Wildcats boys soccer Tournament.

Adam Burgio scored Albion’s goal in the first half off an assist from Nate Wehling.

The game was an interesting sibling coaching rivalry as Albion Coach Bridgett Varin bested her brother W-C Coach Garhett Varin.

Improving to 2-1, Albion posted a 245-incomplete win over Newfane in a Niagara-Orleans League golf match at Willowbrook this afternoon.

Nate Gibson shot 46 to lead Albion as Drew Pritchard, Owen Spencer and Nick Luft each had a 49.

Newfane’s Caleb Rivera took medalist honors with a 40.

In the other N-O match, Akron downed Wilson as Brodie Hill led the Tigers with a 44.

Wilson’s Ben Meyers took medalist honors with a 42.
