Kendall girls soccer winning state title is top local sports story in 2018

Orleans Hub sports editor Mike Wertman has made a list of the top 18 local sports stories in 2018. At the top of the list: the Kendall girls soccer team winning the Class D state championship.

The team went on a 7-0 run in the postseason to become the first team to win a state title in Kendall school history.

Medina’s Melanie Green winning the state championship in golf is the number two story.

Two local teams also made it to the final four of the state tournament. The Roy-Hart baseball team captured the Niagara-Orleans League, Section VI Class B and Far West Regional titles before being downed 7-1 by Seton Catholic of Binghamton in the state semifinals at Binghamton.

Barker’s field hockey team claimed the Niagara-Orleans League and then captured the Section VI Class C title for the 13th time in the last 17 years. Barker won the Far West Regional and advanced to the state semifinals for the fourth time in the last nine years.
