Youth diamond openers have been special
Contributed Photo – Though the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic prevented the event from taking place this spring opening day traditionally has been a special one for the local youth baseball leagues. For many years the Albion Midget League held an opening day parade in the village and in recent years it has held opening ceremonies at the Midget League field where the players and coaches of each team were introduced. The Medina Mini League’s opening day used to feature a ceremonial first pitch thrown out by the village’s major. Here then Medina Mayor John Cobb does the honors at the 1974 season opener tossing the ball to catcher Steve Pettine.
