Yasmeen Shabazz wins gold at gymnastic championship

Fourteen year old Yasmeen Shabazz of Albion earned two gold medals and a silver at the USA Gymnastics Level 4 Upstate Championship held recently in Rochester.
Shabazz competed in all four of the women’s events and finished first all around with a total score of 37.275.
She also took first place in vaulting competition scoring 9.55, second place in floor exercise with a 9.25 and placed fifth on balance beam and ninth on the uneven parallel bars scoring 9.30 and 9.175, respectively.
Shabazz is a member of the Bright Raven Gymnastics Team of Rochester. Bright Raven finished second as a team with 28 teams represented at the Championships.
She is a high honor roll 9th grade student at the Charles D’Amico High School in Albion.
