The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory and lakeshore flood watch for Orleans County over the weekend.

The winter weather advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. Saturday until 10 a.m. Sunday. Freezing rain is expected with total ice accumulations with a quarter to a half inch expected. The advisory includes Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, and Livingston counties.

There will be wind gusts from 30 to 40 miles per hour, especially along the lakeshore. Power outages and tree damage are like due to the ice, the National Weather Service said.

A lakeshore flood watch also is in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday until 2 p.m. Sunday for Niagara, Orleans and Monroe counties.

Northeasterly winds will result in significant wave action which may result in lakeshore flooding and erosion along the southwestern shores of Lake Ontario, the Weather Service said.
