The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a winter weather advisory from 11 a.m. today to 7 a.m. on Thursday for Orleans, Monroe, Wayne and northern Cayuga counties.

These areas are forecast to get 3 to 6 inches of snow. Winds gusting as high as 40 miles per hour will produce blowing and drifting snow.

“Plan on snow covered and slippery road conditions with poor visibility at times,” the Weather Service said. “The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.”

The lake effect snow will fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities, the Weather Service said.
