Wind chills could be 15 to 20 below zero today
The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory until 10 a.m. Saturday for Orleans, Genesee, Niagara and Erie counties.
The wind chills are expected to be as low as 15 to 20 degrees below zero.
“The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes,” the Weather Service said. “This is a potentially dangerous situation to be outdoors. If you must be outside, be sure to cover all exposed skin. Frostbite can occur in 30 minutes or less with apparent temperatures of 15 below zero or colder.”
Today is forecast for a high of 8 degrees with some snow showers likely, mainly before 1 p.m. Tonight the temperatures are forecast to fall to minus-2 degrees.
The highs on the weekend include 26 on Saturday and 39 on Sunday.
