Setting the stage for a key regular season ending title showdown, the Medina Mustangs blanked the host Ukraine FC 2-0 Sunday evening in a Buffalo District Soccer League 3rd Division game.

The victory improves Medina’s record to 7-2-0 (21 points) giving the Mustangs a share of first place with the Buffalo Cosmos which downed the Buffalo Brighten Stars 4-3. The Cosmos are 6-0-3 (21 points).

The Mustangs will now host the Cosmos at 6 p.m. Sunday at Vets Park in the regular season finale which will determine the division champion.

In the win over Ukraine FC, Nathan Dillenbeck scored what proved to be the game winning goal for the Mustangs just 10 minutes into the first half off an assist from Steven Anderson.

Greg Husung later scored the clinching goal with 15 minutes to go in the second half as Anderson again earned the assist.

Tyler Ribbeck earned the shutout in goal.

Last Thursday the Cosmos outlasted the Mustangs on penalty kicks in the quarterfinal round of the league’s Matthews Cup Tournament.
