Win advances Kendall boys to C2 semifinal
All of the scoring came in the second half as No. 6 seed Kendall upended No. 3 Alfred-Almond 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the Section V Class C2 boys soccer playoffs this evening at Alfred-Almond.
Austin Werth completed his three goal hat-trick by scoring on a header off a corner kick by Colby Hughes with 8 minutes to go to snap a 2-2 tie and give Kendall the victory.
Werth gave Kendall a 1-0 lead early in the second half off an assist from Jonathan Esposito but Alfred-Almond answered with a pair of goals to go up 2-1.
Kendall retied the contest at 2-2 on another goal by Werth off an assist from Josh Esposito setting the stage for his decisive late game winning tally.
Now ay 9-8-1, Kendall will next face the winner of the No. 10 Cal-Mum vs. No. 2 Geneseo game in the semifinals on Wednesday.
In a Class C1 quarterfinal, No. 2 Byron-Bergen blanked visiting No. 10 Holley 5-0 in a clash of Genesee Region League foes.
