Wilson nips Albion to claim N-O soccer title
Wilson edged past visiting Albion 2-1 this afternoon to lock up outright possession of the Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer championship.
Wilson improves to 7-1-1 while runner-up Albion slips to 5-3-1.
Taylor Carmer and Alexander Chiappone scored goals in the first half for Wilson.
Albion briefly tied that game at 1-1 as Sam Sanchez scored off an assist from Thomas Hollenbeck.
In other N-O action, Medina/Lyndonville dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to host Akron and Roy-Hart (4-4-1) battled to a 1-1 overtime tie with visiting Newfane (4-3-2).
Nate Dillenbeck scored both goals for Medina/Lyndonville off assists from Jonathan Pietrafesa and Nate Sherman.
The Mustangs led 1-0 but Akron scored the first three goals of the second half to take charge.
Akron is now 2-5-2 and Medina/Lyndonville 1-7-1 in N-O action.
Medina/Lyndonville visits Albion at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to close out the N-O season.
Jacob Higgins scored Roy-Hart’s goal in the first half and Jarrett Gilson tallied for Newfane in the second half on a penalty kick.
