Wilson girls shutout Medina; Newfane downs Roy-Hart to set up Sat. showdown

Wilson blanked host Medina 5-0 and Newfane downed visiting Roy-Hart 4-1 in Niagara-Orleans League girls soccer games this afternoon setting the stage for a key battle for first place on Saturday at Wilson.

Wilson stayed perfect at 12-0 while Newfane improved to 11-1. Wilson nipped Newfane 4-3 in their earlier meeting.

Wilson jumped out to a commanding 4-0 half-time advantage as Lauren Courturier scored two goals and Kayla Neumann and Rachel Senek each netted one. Courturier completed her hat-trick by scoring the lone goal of the second half.

The loss drops Medina to 3-7-2.

Kayleigh Daniels scored two goals for Newfane which led 3-0 at the half. Adelyn Burns and Kaylee Heschke scored the other goals for the Lady Panthers.

Emma Lindke scored off an assist from Amber Villella for Roy-Hart which slips to 5-6-1.

Akron improved to 8-3-1 by downing visiting Albion (5-7) 3-1 as all of the scoring came in the second half.

Medina’s Allison Bensley (12) tries to defend a header by Wilson’s Aidan McGill (14).

Leah Czechowski scored two goals and Allison Norton one for the Lady Tigers.

Ally Page scored off an assist from Emily Blanchard to pull Albion within 2-1.

The Purple Eagles then just missed netting the equalizer off a corner opportunity as Akron goalie Laurie Poeller came up with a huge diving save to preserve the Lady Tigers lead.

CSAT outlasted Barker 3-2 in double overtime.

Sara Gendrue scored both goals for Barker.

Both teams are now 1-11.
