Wilson girls edge past Albion
Two-time defending champion Wilson edged visiting Albion 35-29 this evening to stay perfect at 8-0 in Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball action.
Emily Lasher had 17 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals, Allie Bubar 8 points and Dana Smith 5 to lead the way for Wilson.
Chanyce Powell had 13 points and 9 rebounds, Kelsee Soule 8 points and 9 rebounds and Justice Nauden 7 points for Albion.
Up 9-8 after one period, Wilson used a 13-4 second period scoring surge to open up a 22-12 half-time advantage. Bubar scored 7 and Lasher 6 to key that uprising.
Wilson maintained a 29-18 advantage at the three-quarter mark.
However, Albion came rallying back to within three down the stretch but could get no closer. Soule tallied 5 and Powell and Nauden 3 each to lead that Purple Eagles rally.
The loss drops Albion to 6-3.
Akron 36, Barker 21.
Akron (3-5) jumped out to a 15-6 half-time advantage and went on to defeat visiting Barker (4-5) 36-21.
Gina Henley led Akron with 11 points while Gabby Clare netted 8 for Barker.
Newfane 51, CSAT 49
Moving into sole possession of second place at 7-2, Newfane nipped CSAT (4-5) 51-49 on a basket by Bailey Koithan with 8 seconds to go.
Brooke Horning led Newfane with 20 points, including three threes, as Paige Emborsky added 14 points and Marlo MacFarlane grabbed off 26 rebounds.
