Wilson blanks Medina in N-O field hockey finale

WILSON – Leading by a narrow 1-0 margin, Wilson used a quick two goal scoring burst late in the first half to key a 5-0 victory over Medina this afternoon to close out the Niagara-Orleans League field hockey season.

Michelle Myers, who netted three goals on the day, had the decisive two tallies for Wilson which finishes the N-O campaign at 5-7.

Medina winds up at 2-10.

In other league action, Barker got a little help from long-time rival Akron to claim sole possession of a eighth straight N-O championship.

Barker blanked visiting Roy-Hart 4-0 and Akron played to a 1-1 overtime tie with host Kenmore.

Those results earn Barker the championship at 11-1 while Kenmore winds up in the runner up spot at 10-1-1 and Akron in third place at 8-3-1.

Gaby Clare, Heather Mason, Olivia Denny and Lydia Dewart took turns scoring the goals for Barker.

Sarah Schultz netted the lone goal for Akron while Kayle Mathias tallied for Kenmore.

Roy-Hart 1, Sacred Heart 0
In a non league game Monday, Roy-Hart edged past host Sacred Heart 1-0 as Francesca Bond scored off an assist from Mariah Rees.

Volleyball

Albion 26-5-25, Iroquois 24-16-21
ELMA – Niagara-Orleans League champion Albion tuned up for the up coming Section VI volleyball playoffs by defeating Iroquois 26-24, 25-16, 25-21 Monday night in a non league match.

Kelsee Soule had 12 spiking kills, 11 digs and 2 service aces; Chanyce Powell 7 blocks, 2 kills and 2 aces; Sarah Millspaugh 7 kills, 7 digs and 1 ace and Brooke Wilson 6 blocks and 3 kills to lead the way for the Purple Eagles.
