Wild Rochester Classic finishes for Bombers
Sunday was a wild one for the AnJo Bombers U16 team at the Rochester Classic.
First, the Bombers nipped Team PAC 15U 11-10 on a walk-off hit in the quarterfinals. Then the Bombers dropped an equally close 10-9 decision in the seventh inning to the Southern Tier Power in the semifinals.
The Bombers won the quarterfinal on a walk-off RBI single by Colin Fragale in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Thomas Furmanski took the win for the Bombers allowing no runs, hits or walks in one inning. Rylend Callicutt and Bryce Seddon entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief for starter Joe Watson who left early due to injury.
The Bombers had 13 hits in the game. Karl Darling, Watson, Seddon, and Fragale each collected multiple hits. Darling went 3-for-5.
In the semifinals the Bombers lost on the final play of the game when Southern Tier scored on an error.
The Bombers lost despite out-hitting Southern Tier Power 9-5 and despite leading 7-0 to start the bottom of the sixth.
The Bombers tallied three runs in the sixth inning on a walk by Mike DiCureia and a single by Joe Watson.
Furmanski led things off on the pitcher’s mound for the Bombers. He went five innings, allowing five runs on four hits and striking out nine. Darling threw one and two-thirds innings in relief.
