Weather Service issues tornado watch for much of state, including Orleans through 11 p.m.

The National Weather Service is warning people of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and through the evening for much of the state, including Orleans County.

The Weather Service also has issued a tornado watch until 11 p.m., warning of possible powerful winds and hail in Orleans and most of New York.

Orleans could see the showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m., the Weather Service said.

A heat advisory also is in effect until 6 p.m. today with the high temperature at 90 degrees.

The high temperatures the next few days include sunny and 78 on Friday, mostly sunny and 68 on Saturday and sunny and 70 on Sunday.
