The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a special weather statement, saying there is an elevated wildfire potential this afternoon in Orleans County and part of the Finger Lakes and Western New York.

“Breezy, mild and very dry conditions, especially in areas that have lost the snowpack, will result in an elevated wildfire potential,” the Weather Service said. “The risk will be greatest in open and sufficiently dried out locations such as fields and less wooded areas. Any outside burning is strongly discouraged.”
